We have seen so many Houses of Culture in many of the villages we visited. However, in Meghradzor we visited a different kind of House of Culture, a lively, clean and filled with cultural activities. All of this is directed by a 25 year old young man!

Stonethief - Armenia We Hear You
This song was inspired by tragedy and a large act of kindness combined. The lyrics speak of an unrecognised atrocity from 100 years ago. They also elude to a recent charitable mission to help the people of Armenia.
The Armenian Genocide, also known as the Armenian Holocaust, was the Ottoman government's systematic extermination of 1.5 million Armenians, mostly Ottoman citizens within the Ottoman Empire and its successor state, the Republic of Turkey.

The Turkish government still, to this day, do not acknowledge that this atrocity ever happened, despite the widely accepted evidence, records and images available.
Three million people remain in Armenia, half of which reside in the capital city of Yerevan. Eleven million Armenians live outside the country. The effects of this horrific period in Armenian history are still felt, but its proud people will never allow this act of evil to be forgotten.
In October 2017, the Starkey Hearing Foundation led a mission to Armenia, giving over 1800 people the gift of sound, bringing joy to their silent worlds by fitting them with donated hearing aids. A selected group of audiologists and volunteers changed lives for the better at this unprecedented event, held in a sports stadium in the centre of Yerevan.
Lee Fletcher was one such audiologist on this mission, who fitted over 80 people with hearing hearing aids over three days. He also happens to be the lead singer of Stonethief. Lee felt compelled to write a song after feeling particularly inspired by the whole experience.
The content of this track was heavily influenced by a visit to the genocide memorial and an onsite talk given on the subject. A film called 'The Promise' gives an incredible insight into the atrocity and served as another source of inspiration when Lee was writing the lyrics. He says:
I was particularly moved by what I heard about Armenia's troubled history and the horrific genocide associated with it. I felt compelled to write something about it after becoming so personally involved with the people in Yerevan at the charity mission. They were so welcoming to us that I felt emotionally connected with them and fascinated with their culture when talking to the local interpreters. I found myself getting angry at the lack of recognition or awareness across the globe about this genocidal event that's embedded in their history and still feels so raw.
We had a fantastic opportunity to give something back, without asking for anything in return. I'm so immersed in all aspects of sound in my life, from testing and fitting hearing aid technology as an audiologist, to writing, recording and performing music as a band member. It felt right to combine all of these facets - something I never expected I'd do!

“Voice of Armenians” TVNY was launched in December, 2010 by a prominent theater director, actress and a veteran television producer, Karine Kocharyan, and her son, an award winning film director, writer and fine art photographer, Haik Kocharian.
The goal of the show is to highlight and document the extraordinary and varied contributions of the Armenian Diaspora, specifically in the New York, Tri-State area. “Voice Of Armenians” TVNY reports on all aspects of our community, including religious, political, educational, cultural and charitable. In addition, we conduct in-depth interviews and produce profile documentaries of notable Armenians who achieved success in their respective fields.

Ha pasado más de un mes desde que partimos de Teherán y las Schwalbe han dejado su huella en la arena de desiertos, sobre la capa blanquecina del mayor lago salado de Irán y en el barro de montañas por encima de 2500 m.
El país no defrauda y todas las expectativas que traía después de lo que me habían contado muchos viajeros se han cumplido de sobra. Tanto, que hemos extendido el visado 2 meses más.
2 meses para gozar de las montañas del oeste, acercarnos al kurdistan, esa región que parece ser tan especial y a lo mejor, solo a lo mejor escalar el volcán más alto de Asia, el Damavan...Veremos.
Por el momento un video de la primera semana, material hay mucho, pero también un control bastante bestia sobre internet y subir cualquier cosa es un infierno.

A lecture by Farzaneh Roudi, November 30, 2017.
Farzaneh Roudi is a senior demographer and policy analyst with more than 30 years of experience researching and writing on the Middle East population and development issues. She co-authored a Stanford Iran 2040 working paper titled “Iran’s Population Dynamics and Demographic Window of Opportunity” with Dr. Pooya Azadi and Dr. Mohsen Mesgaran. She will present on her findings from this paper.
Iran’s record fertility decline has had a significant impact on its age composition. The ratio of children (younger than 15) and elderly (65 and older) to the working age population (ages 15 to 65), known as the age dependency ratio, decreased from 0.95 in 1990 to 0.45 in 2005. With fewer dependents to support, Iran is currently in the midst of a demographic window of opportunity and has the potential for rapid economic growth if its large and educated labor force is competing in a global market and employed in well-paid, highly skilled jobs. Ms. Roudi will present the latest data on Iran’s population dynamics, discussing Iran's one time chance of benefiting from its demographic dividend.
