Premier-designate Lin Chuan announced more names for his Cabinet, tapping seasoned civil official Chen Mei-ling as Cabinet Secretary-General. Other appointments included top posts at the National Development Council, the Environmental Protection Administration, the Ministry of Justice, the Council of Agriculture and the Public Construction Commission.The second-batch of Cabinet members was introduced today. The only female is Chen Mei-ling, who is currently Tainan City Secretary-General of and will soon be promoted to Cabinet Secretary-General.Lin ChuanPremier-designateI really appreciate Tainan Mayor Lai for allowing Chen to leave her post to join my cabinet. I believe Chen Mei-ling is a perfect candidate for this job. In the future, the premier, deputy premier and the secretary-general are going to be a close-knit team.Meanwhile, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu is bidding farewell to her Deputy Mayor Wu Hong-mo who has been appointed as minister of the Public Construction Commission.Lin ChuanPremier-designateWu knows Kaohsiung and local politics inside out. I really appreciate Kaohsiung Mayor Chen for agreeing to let him go.Premier-designate Lin Chuan introduced 11 cabinet members this time, including former deputy Taoyuan mayor Chiu Tai-san as minister of Justice, former Pingtung County Commissioner Tsao Chi-hung as agricultural minister, and legislator Lee Ying-yuan as the minister of the Environmental Protection Administration. The only appointment that raised eyebrows was his pick of the minister of National Development Council Chen Tain-jy who served as Minister of the Council for Economic Planning and Development during the Ma administration and defended ECFA policies. Lin ChuanPremier-designateHe worked in the Ma administration. Legislators across the party lines may not tolerate this appointment. But I told him it won’t happen because the new administration focuses on people’s merit, not their party affiliation. Premier-designate Lin Chuan says he’ll announce the next batch of his cabinet members within a week.
