Meinong Township in Greater Kaohsiung 美濃 - Aerial Uncut Footage
Meinong Township 美濃 is a small town and a popular tourist destination located 30 minutes east of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.
In 1736, Chinese mainland Hakkas settled Meinong, a mountain valley rich with fertile soil and natural water drainages.
The raw video footage is 1080P at 60 fps, shot by DJI Inspire 1 operated by one person. The footage is sponsored by Peter Lin.

DaAiTV DaAiHeadline 20110601 Storm brewing over artificial lake
Next up, we continue our series of reports from Meinong. The government plans to build an artificial lake here, to supply drought-prone south Taiwan with water. But local residents are worried the project will backfire. We went to find out why.
持續帶大家看南台灣美濃的專題報導。政府預定在這裡興建人工湖,要提供南台灣乾旱季節缺水的水資源,不過當地居民卻很擔憂人工湖的開挖,一起去探討這個原因。
( Meinong fields to make way for lake? )
May in Meinong, in south Taiwan, is awash with color. Under the blue sky, endless paddy fields of green are ready for harvest.
But recently, the idyllic village life has been interrupted by a controversial issue.
Jiyang borough resident: If you dig here, water from elsewhere will flow in, and defeat the purpose.
Jiyang borough resident: We're strongly opposed, because of the groundwater problem.
Jiyang borough resident: Slowly, everyone is coming around to the opinion that we don't want to build it.
( Controversial Jiyang lake project )
Here in the Jiyang borough of Meinong, the topic on everyone's lips is the plan to build the Jiyang artificial lake.
Jiyang borough leader, Zeng Shunchang : Our Meinong is an unspoiled place. Now the government wants to develop an artificial lake, won't that affect our farming life, and the environment here? The government needs to think about that.
( Fertile fields may soon be under water )
The field where this tractor is working is to be the location of the lake. The original proposal is for five lake areas, from A to E, in a 700 hectare area of land between the Laonong and Nanzixian rivers. The planed route for the water starts at a weir, built above the Gaomei高美 bridge, and takes river water from the Laonong荖濃 into a retention basin by Dagui大龜 Mountain, and then into the Jiyang artificial lake. The reservoir will cover this fertile farmland.
Green Association coordinator, Lu Taiying : With climate change, everyone is very concerned about the food crisis. We all know Meinong is a very important grain and food producer in south Taiwan. We really hope these farm fields won't be reclaimed.
( Self-defeating artifical lake? )
There is also concern about the groundwater issue. Because the water table is 2-10m underground, and the artificial lake will be 12m deep, as soon as excavation begins, the water table will be exposed. Residents are worried the lake will overflow in the wet season, and take away their supply of groundwater in the dry season.
NCKU Hydraulic & Ocean Engineering Dept., Prof. Li Zhengao : There are two ways to build an artificial lake. If you don't resupply the groundwater, you have to seal the bottom. If you seal the bottom, it will be fixed, like a reservoir. If you don't seal it, you'll have a problem in wet season: we don't need water, but there'll be lots of water, so an artificial lake is useless.
( Environmental impact assessment )
The proposal for Jiyang artificial lake passed evaluation 11 years ago. Now back on the table, another evaluation and plan is needed.
S. Taiwan Water Resources Agency director, Huang Shiwei : According to the rules, after an evaluation, if it's not built in three years, you have to do another environmental impact assessment; and a comparative study, if there are major changes, and send it to our agency for approval.
( No plain sailing for lake plan )
Before launching a major construction project to tackle the water shortage problem in south Taiwan, perhaps we should learn to have greater respect for Mother Nature instead.

{Trip} Maolin Trip_Day 3_Liugui/茂林之旅_第三天_六龜
Third day of our trip to the Maolin National Scenic Area. We stayed the second night at the Pu-Lao Hot Spring Hotel ( in Bulao. From there we headed north to the village of Baolai where we went on a walk following the Pulaixitou Tribe Historic Battle Trail. Plum trees were blooming and the scenery was great. Then we headed back south following the Laonong River. We saw the 18 Arhats Mountains across the river and then stopped at a date (jujube) farm in Dajin. Finally, we had lunch at the Meinong Folk Village before heading back home to Taipei.

Hakka Cultural Park | Taipei in 4K
I have been thinking about visiting areas outside the touristy places so this led me to a small cultural center far away from Taipei 101. I had a great time though learning about the Hakkas, a Han cultural minority.

Taiwan – Mountain Beauty, Villages & Culture – Part 2
In this Taiwan episode Joseph leaves the forested heights of Taroko National Park and continues his explorations of Taiwan’s small, cultural mountain villages. In their historic “Old Streets” he explores artisan shops, local restaurants and colorful temples for a hearty taste of Taiwanese culture. He also discovers more of Taiwan’s original people through their food, arts & crafts, customs and traditions. He tries his hand at indigo cloth dying with the Hakka people, witnesses traditional Tayan weaving and participates in the equally somber and joyous Pasta’ay Festival of the indigenous Saisiyat Tribe. Here he joins in their festival of Blessing, Atonement and Forgiveness.

THERE WAS A CAMPING THERE! - TAIWAN ON FOOT #7
I'm Steve, I'm travelling in Taiwan on foot.
I left Sanyi after visiting the Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum.
I left at around 2pm and stopped at the Shengxing Station, not in use anymore since 1998.
I was walking to Taichung, my original destination but it was still far and obviously I didn't have enough time that day.
The Longteng broke bridge is another tourist attraction along the way. Once there I saw few nice spots where place my tent for the night. So I waited until the last tourist left the site and just before the dark I built my tent right behind the bridge. Once done with that I wrote a post on my Facebook page. I was a bit scared honestly. My tent was just next to the wood and I was worry about wild animals. After a while a old friend of mine, a Taiwanese girl met in Italy nine years before, saw the post and contacted me. Funny thing is that her family has a restaurant and camping 300 meters from where I was! She came out shouting my name. That was a big surprise. Was too late to move my tent in her camping but in the day after I did it.
