MEKONG DELTA VIETNAM - Saigon Day Trip
We experienced local life along the Mekong Delta Vietnam for our last day in Saigon. We show you the best Saigon day trip that Vietnam has to offer, traveling by boat down the Mekong Delta and exploring a local Vietnam village along the way.
Our trip to the Mekong Delta Vietnam started with a 2 hour luxury van ride to a town called My Tho. Although we don’t normally take public tours, we arranged a small 6 person group tour with Vietnam Adventure Tours. Once we arrived in My Tho, we boarded a private boat to set sail down the Mekong Delta River. The 15 minute boat ride took us across the Mekong river to unicorn island where we explored a tourist area set up to mimic a traditional Vietnam Village. The activities on this island include: Bee Farm and Honey Tasting, Snake Holding, Coconut Candy Production, Chocolate Production, Snake Wine, and a Fruit Farm with traditional Mekong Delta music.
Next we got back on the Vietnam boat tour down the Mekong Delta to visit the area of Ben Tre. This is where we got to see a side of a more authentic Vietnam by boating down the river in a small sampan boat. This is one of the best things to do in Vietnam because you get to experience a world away from all development. We wish this part of the Mekong river tour was longer, as the small sampan boat ride was only 15 minutes long.
Next up on the Mekong Delta Tour was lunch which was included in our tour and very delicious. We were served a variety of Vietnamese food including fish, spring rolls, soup, rice, morning glory and prawns. The Vietnamese lunch was absolutely delicious!
When visiting Saigon Vietnam, we highly recommend you put a Mekong Delta Tour on your list of must do activities. Out of all the things to do in Saigon, this was one of our favorites! A quick 2 hour Saigon day trip away seems like a completely separate world apart from the hustle of Ho Chi Minh City.
If you’re interested in booking one of the best tours in Saigon, contact Vietnam Adventure Tours and request Van as your tour guide! The tour you see is the VIP Mekong Delta Tour with a luxury 7 person limo. Most Mekong tours start from $15 USD and go up to $80 USD for a public tour, and private tours are $80 USD per person and up. We hope you enjoyed our trip down the Vietnam Mekong Delta and if you have any questions please leave us a comment! We’d love to hear about your Vietnam travel or plans to visit the area.

The Mekong Delta
From the heights of the Tibetan Plateau, the mighty Mekong flows through six countries, giving life and a home to millions of people. For this, it was once named “Mother of all rivers”. The Mekong is one of the most speciose rivers of the world, with approximately 1,300 varieties of fish and numerous kinds of reptiles and birds.
After a journey of 4,500 kilometres (3,000 miles) it reaches the South China Sea. Nine estuaries carry enormous amounts of silt to form one of the greatest (50,000 km2) ever growing deltas in the world. Cuu Long (nine dragons) is the Vietnamese name for the nine main estuaries. More than 13 million people live by the timeless rhythm of the river in small fishing villages and boats. There are also many Khmer and Cham who live in the Mekong delta region.
The cultivation of the Mekong delta
The beginning of cultivation of the Mekong delta can be dated back to 1750 when Vietnamese monarchs started to built canals and drain swamps to gain more land for cultivation. But the main part of the development was done by the French at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuaries.
Thousands of waterways form a labyrinth of major currents and secluded canals lined with lush vegetation, mangrove swamps and verdant rice fields. Due to the fertile soil and the production of 16 million tonnes of rice per year (harvested in three crops) the Mekong delta is also called “rice bowl” of Vietnam.
The Mekong delta is an exotic paradise for travellers from all over the world: good climate, an abundance of tropical fruit, sugar cane, coconuts and colourful flowers, a relaxed atmosphere and the generous mentality of the people. Lots of the activities in the area take place on the vast waterways. Most houses have access to the river, not all of them to roads.

We Joined Mekong Delta Tour - Is It Beautiful ? ????????
This video is about the full-day experience we had in Vietnamese villages along the river, the day trip we had is not so far from Saigon ( Ho Chi Minh City ) and we think this is definitely what you should not miss while traveling to Vietnam.

▶︎ Why did we decide to take the Mekong Delta tour? ????????
Ho Chi Minh City is a major destination in Vietnam and we decided to explore this city deeply by moving in for a month. However, we also want to have more authentic look at local culture. A day trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Mekong Delta is what we think can be a fantastic way to get to know a more rural side to Vietnam, from local bee farms to traditional fishing villages
▶︎ More About Mekong Delta :
The Mekong Delta (Vietnamese: Đồng bằng Sông Cửu Long, Nine Dragon river delta or simply Vietnamese: Đồng Bằng Sông Mê Kông, Mekong river delta), also known as the Western Region or the South-western region is the region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea through a network of distributaries. The Mekong delta region encompasses a large portion of southwestern Vietnam. The size of the area covered by water depends on the season.
The Mekong Delta has been dubbed as a biological treasure trove. Over 1,000 animal species were recorded between 1997 and 2007 and new species of plants, fish, lizards, and mammals have been discovered in previously unexplored areas, including the Laotian rock rat, thought to be extinct.

From Ho Chi Minh City to Hoa Ninh (Mekong Delta) - Vietnam 4K Travel Channel
Our next destination is the Mekong Delta. In the morning, we leave Ho Chi Minh City by minibus. The working population approaches us in a scooter-pulk. We soon reach the surrounding countryside. The motorway is dead-straight and it leads through endless rice fields, orchards, and countless canals. After a one and a half hours drive and about 100 km, we reach the Mekong. In Cai Be it changes its name changes to Song Tien.
Behind the border of Cambodia, the Mekong on the Vietnamese site is divided into two main branches, the northern Song Tien and the southern Song Hau. Both are then divided into nine different tributaries. Thus, one calls the Mekong in Vietnam also Song Cửu Long or Nine Dragon River. The delta covers an area of 70,000 km², roughly one-fifth of the area of Germany.
The delta is a floodplain in which the Mekong deposits its sediments. This makes it very fertile and one calls it the southern rice chamber of Vietnam.
Today highways connect the centers. Apart from that, the road network is only rudimentary. Most of the goods and passengers are transported via the canals. The plain is not only very fertile but also very densely populated. The people live along the canals, while the paddy fields and orchards lie behind the villages.
In Cai Be, we change from car to boat. A wide river leads from the village to the Mekong. This area is also a floating market. In the background is a striking French cathedral.
Wholesalers, who deliver the goods partly in several-day journeys, distribute the goods to local dealers and end customers. They sell primarily flowers, fruits, vegetables, and cereals. But there are only a few dealers to see, it seems we are late. Most of the accommodations along the waterway look poor and shabby. But from time to time we see comfortable houses in between.
Then we cross the Mekong and head towards the opposite island. At the Mekong Garden, we go ashore.

Saigon Travel: BINH QUOI TOURIST VILLAGE. Vietnam 2015
The countryside is never too far away in Vietnam. Even Saigon's busy urban sprawl has a quiet retreat called Binh Quoi, located on Thanh Da in Binh Thanh District. Any taxi driver would know. They also have food and a weekend buffet worth checking out. I recommend this area if you want to take a step back to the basics of a more tranquil lifestyle away from the noise and busy antics of city life without having to travel very far. This place is probably only 20 to 30 minutes from District 1 depending on traffic. Beyond Binh Quoi there are also a lot of neighboring smaller establishments that allow fishing and shrimping.

My Mekong Delta Cruise – Saigon (Vietman) to Siem Reap (Cambodia)
Highlights from my Mekong Delta Cruise (October 2016) from Saigon in Vietnam to Siem reap in Cambodia. Video courtesy of
The tour started with sightseeing Saigon (Ho Chi Minh), welcoming dinner etc. I added an extra couple of days in Saigon to explore other “non-touristy” areas.
From Saigon we went to My Tho where we boarded the CruiseCo Adventurer and set sail for Cai Be. The ship was extremely comfortable with private deck etc. The food was excellent and nightly performances were organised. There was only about 30 guest on the tour and they broke us into groups of two for day excursions… which was a good idea.
Next morning we visited Cai Be to see the floating markets and other local attractions. Lunch was on board the Cruiseco Adventurer followed by a visit to the village of Sa Dec.
The next day was to Tan Chau and the Border Crossing into Cambodia. We toured the town on a rickshaw and watched navigated narrow channels by boat.
The ship docked in the Capital City Phnom Penh overnight. In the afternoon we visited the Khmer Rouge’s Toul Sleng Detention Centre and the Killing Fields.
There are around 20,000 mass grave sites where at least 1,386,734 people were executed under the Khmer Rouge Regime between 1975 and 1979.
It is estimated up to 2.5 million people died from Khmer Rouge policies, including starvation and disease. That was out of a population of roughly 8 million in 1975.
Vietnam invaded Cambodia (then called Democratic Kampuchea) in 1979 and toppled the Khmer Rouge regime. A very sad history.
The next morning we explored Phnom Penh on our own by Tuk Tuk. After lunch on board the ship sailed for Chong Koh, where we visit some traditional handicraft workshops.
The next day it was on to Oudong to visit a Buddhist monastery. Then on to Kapong Tralach Pleu where we took an ox cart ride to the Tonle River. Not overly comfortable but a lot of fun!
We were lucky to be cruising in early October during the high water season so didn’t need to take the long bus trip on our journey to Siem Reap. We visited the rural port town of Kampong Chhnang and explored the busy (but dirty and interesting) markets.
The vessel dropped anchor and tied up to a tree mid-stream, so we could take a boat trip into the lake-side wetlands. The ship moored near Siem Reap.
In Siem Reap we toured Angkor Wat which is the world’s largest temple. It was stinking hot and humid but a wonderful experience.
I didn’t bother with the arranged tour of more temples the next day, but instead got a Tuk Tuk and explored Siem Reap including and visit to the War Museum which I found enlightening. I stayed in Siem Reap a couple more days to explore more of the city and surrounds.
Overall, the trip was amazing! Thanks CruiseCo.

MEKONG RIVER DELTA TOUR :: HO CHI MINH CITY VIETNAM
The Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam is a vast maze of rivers, swamps and islands, home to floating markets, Khmer pagodas and villages surrounded by rice paddies. Boats are the main means of transportation, and tours of the region often start in nearby Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon) or Can Tho, a bustling town in the heart of the delta.

Hello Guys,
Welcome To murad explorer YouTube Channel.
This is the 4rd video of the Vietnam series .
Today we take a break for working in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to check out the Mekong Delta, the beautiful area around the Mekong River, just an hour outside of Saigon.
One of the great things about traveling is that you get to experience things that you wouldn't ordinarily experience at home. This was one of those things. We drank wine that had been fermented with a dead snake and dead scorpion inside the bottle. It actually tasted pretty good!

AmaWaterways Excursion to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Mekong River Cruise thru Vietnam & Cambodia
AmaWaterways Excursion to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam during Vietnam-Cambodia Mekong River Cruise going from Hanoi to Saigon that includes everything in between like ancient ruins, beautiful lakes, river tributaries, small villages, factories, museums, shopping and more as documented by travel filmmaker Clint Denn. Under the name Saigon, it was the capital of the French colony of Cochin-china and later of the independent republic of South Vietnam from 1955--75. South Vietnam, as an anti-communist, capitalist republic, fought against the communist North Vietnamese and Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, with aid from the United States and countries including Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. Saigon fell when it was captured by the communists on 30 April 1975, ending the war with a Communist victory. Vietnam was then turned into a communist state with the South overtaken. On 2 July 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding Gia Định Province and was officially renamed Ho Chi Minh City after Hồ Chí Minh (although the name Sài Gòn is still commonly used).
The metropolitan area, which consists of the Ho Chi Minh City metropolitan area, Thủ Dầu Một, Dĩ An, Biên Hòa and surrounding towns, is populated by more than 9,000,000 people, making it the most populous metropolitan area in Vietnam. The city's population is expected to grow to 13.9 million in 2025. The Ho Chi Minh City metropolitan area, a metropolitan area covering most parts of Đông Nam Bộ plus Tiền Giang and Long An provinces under planning, will have an area of 30,000 square kilometers with a population of 20 million inhabitants by 2020.

Mekong Delta river, Often referred to as the 'rice bowl of Asia' due to its plethora of emerald rice paddy fields, the Mekong River Delta is surrounded by fertile lands that showcase nature’s riches. On Vietnam’s mighty Mekong, sleepy floating communities live surrounded by an abundance of tropical fruits, buffalo wallowing in paddy fields, and mangroves rich with birdlife.
Attractions Along the Mekong Delta
The commotion of Ho Chi Minh City is easily forgotten as you float down the mud-brown waters of the delta. Highlights include the Cai Rang Floating Market, the largest of its kind in the area, where boats swell with fresh coconuts and exotic produce, and the UNESCO-listed Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, where the river meets the South China Sea.
In the Thua Thua area, the delta transforms into narrow canals that snake past agricultural villages famed for their coconut palms and production of whiskey and wine. Travelers seeking serenity will be delighted by Ben Tre, where a sleepy waterfront and languid pace provide a welcome retreat. The region is also home to two spectacular religious landmarks: Cao Dai Temple and Cai Be Cathedral, whose distinct styles range from vibrant to austere.

Can Tho features the ornate Ong Chinese temple, while the town of Tra Vinh is known for its Khmer pagodas. Throughout the Delta, farmers and fishermen sell local produce from flat-bottomed sampan boats in colorful floating markets such as Cái Răng, Cái Bè and Phong Điền. The Mekong is also a biological haven for rare species like the Mekong giant catfish and Sarus crane, found at Tràm Chim National Park. In the north is Sam Mountain, a Buddhist religious site with views over the floodplains. [wikipedia // Google]
