Ever since traveling for me meant to be active. I was taking on new outdoor challenges every year from skiing in the Alps to rafting in South America, Biking trips in North America and several multi-day trekking adventures in places like Patagonia, Peru or Kyrgyzstan. This year I was ready for the next step: climbing one of the seven summits. When G Adventures asked me to become part of their Wanderers program I saw my chance to take on the highest mountain in Africa as one of their brand ambassadors….but little did I know how hard this endeavour would be….
Unlike other trips this one started actually 5 months before the first day of trekking…I worked on my fitness, changed my diet and did a lot of research on Mt. Kilimanjaro. I decided to take on the Lemosho route which is 56 kilometers long and takes altogether 8 days - my decision was based on 2 reasons: one was the fact that the itinerary of this route is the best for acclimatization of the body to the high altitude and the resulting high summit success rate (which is at 96% for G Adventures), the other reason is the beauty of the route which is often described as the most picturesque and spectacular of all popular routes.
Located in North East Tanzania Mount Kilimanjaro is with 5895m the highest mountain in Africa which makes it one of the seven summits. Apart from that it is also the highest free standing mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano with three three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and „Shira“. The highest point is located on Kibo - after the independence of Tanzania it was named Uhuru Peak in 1964 - which is Kiswhali and translates into „freedom Peak“.
--About my Cooperation with G Adventures--
For many years I was searching for a suitable partner who offers outdoor tours which align with my style of traveling as well as my values. After many meetings I’m glad I found this partner with G Adventures who offer many adventurous tour packages for travelers like me…but who also care about the environment and local communities in order to execute sustainable tourism. I forced this cooperation because I like the products and the philosophy of the company. Nevertheless all opinions, recommendations and views are my own.

Mille Mengi & Anold Kimaro lie to Moshi Police
Is this conduct that adds to Tanzania's investor friendly reputation? Mrs Millie Mengi refuses to remove some 120 cattle and a number of sheep and goats from Silverdale Farm, Moshi, Tanzania. Mengi has no legal right to the farms and no legal right to keep her animals there. British investor Stewart Mddleton has requested repeatedly that she remove them and Mengi refuses. The cattle are now responsible for over $20,000 to commercial crops on the farm.
On 3rd February 2007, the Guardian newspaper accused four members of Mr. Middleton's staff of attacking one Salim Habib, an employee of Benjamin Mengi with Pangas on Silverdale Farm without reason. The publication further stated that Mr. Middleton had stood by and watched the assault. This information was also broadcast on IPP Media Radio 1 Network. IPP Media newspaper the Nipashe carried a further article some days later stating that Mr. Middleton's staff were now 'on the run' having absconded from bail.
As a matter of public record, this was a blatant lie. As a matter of public record, no member of Mr. Middleton's staff had been arrested however, Salim Habib Mengi's cattle manager had been arrested and charged with Malicious Damage by driving forty head of adult cattle belonging to Mrs Millie Mengi onto a two hectare field of commercial maize on Silverdale Farm destroying crops and causing $20,000 of damage.
This video shows Mengi and Kimaro once again abusing the investors in their own home on Silverdale Farm. Kimaro is calling the police stating there is a big emergency on the farm. Clearly the video shows there is no such emergency and that Kimaro and Mengi his employer are lying. Kimaro is agressivley stating that the investors will see what is going to happen to them when the police arrive.
Their conduct brings shame on Tanzania and all that is is trying to achieve through foreign ivestment. It is an undignified disgrace!
Kearsleys Travel & Tours Tanzania Safari
Kearsleys Travel and Tours
Kearsleys, as it is more avidly known today, was established in 1948 with a vision to serve the foreign expatriates working in Tanganyika (Tanzania before independence) with a reliable and efficient travel and tourism services to meet their needs. Originally it was a fully owned subsidiary of J.W Kearsley (UK) Ltd., owned by Cory Brothers Ltd. and a member of Powell Duffryn Group. It changed hands in 1974, when it was sold to N.V. Patel & Brothers Ltd., a locally owned holding company with a wide interest in agriculture and agro- chemical industries, air and sea transportation and general trading. Since that date the management of the company has been passed to the local board of directors consisting entirely of Tanzanians who have admirably steered the company forward and developed it into a market leader in spite of the economic challenges it faced over the years.
Kearsleys at this juncture is the oldest operating tours and travel company in Tanzania and taking this legacy into consideration, we celebrated its 50th anniversary on 02nd December 1998 with jubilation and euphoria as it earmarked a significant milestone in our history of dedicated and matchless service to the people, general air transportation and tourism sectors in Tanzania. Today, as we're now over 60 years into our operation, we are proud to say that Kearsleys has played a pivotal and a leading role in the development of air travel and tourism in Tanzania and has built an unrivalled reputation both locally and internationally serving its clients and the travelling public at large with unparalleled and reliable service levels.
With this strong historical past, the future looks promising and we at Kearsleys are very confident that our legacy will live on for years to come.

Tanzania's Maasai Maasai are nearly impossible to photograph - vlog 20
When I started planning my trip to Tanzania I had two assumptions about the Maasai Maasai that were dead wrong. The first was that they'd be open to being photographed and be highly photogenic. The second was that the Maasai Maasai were largely assimilated with only a hand full of small villages and populations left. It turns out that I was wrong on both accounts. Tanzania alone has more than 800,000 members of the Maasai Maasai tribe and their villages/lands are everywhere around the Serengeti region. They're also one of the most difficult people to focus I've ever encountered. Something I discuss further in this vlog from the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater Campground.
As always, follow along and make sure not to miss the photos and stories from the Safari by jumping to
A special thanks to the incredible company I worked with as a partner for this photo safari. As you can see, Fed Tours and Safaris ( helped me discover incredible, up-close, experiences with the animals. If you're considering a trip to Tanzania, I can't recommend them highly enough.
Full Review of “Amazing Kilmanjaro Tours and Safaris” in Tanzania… WARNING: DO NOT USE
This was my honest opinion about the tour company that I went with when I was in Tanzania. I was taken straight from the airport by a taxi driver (and later realized it was a tout operation) who took me straight to a Safari booking office in Arusha and I went with the first company without checking around more. They over promised things and under-delivered. The places I got to see were still beautiful and amazing, as were the animals. But the actual guest/customer experience fell very short of expectations.
The Cons:
-Not supplying me with all the water they promised
-Not having vegetarian lunch options when they said they would
-Changing my itinerary/program without asking and not communicating to me about this
-Not having a proficient level of English speaking guides
-Showing up with older and more worn vehicles than what they said they would.
-Guides had little to poor knowledge of animals and explanations (when there were any) were unclear.
-Guides left us for 2.5 hrs. for an unexplained reason to sit in a vehicle and then made one of the girls in the group pay an additional $76.00USD on her credit card to have us enter Serengeti National Park
-Guides left animals sightings too quickly and didn't pay attention to how long group members wanted to stay or not stay in certain areas.
-Guides refused to use AC in vehicles, and said it's broken even when promised by owner (Godfrey) that they would be using AC.
-Customers paid different rates based on how well you could negotiate, so for my same tour, others paid up to $200 less than I did. This caused ill-will amongst the other travelers, and a feeling of unfairness.
The Pros:
-The beautiful animals
-The scenery
-Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
-The cook (after the first cook was switched out)

What I Love About Tanzania-This is Tanzania
Tanzania is an East African country known for its vast wilderness areas. They include the plains of Serengeti National Park, a safari mecca populated by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), and Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain. Offshore lie the tropical islands of Zanzibar, and Mafia, with a marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs.
African Impact Volunteer Projects in Kilimanjaro Tanzania
African Impact volunteers provide that extra pair of needed hands in schools, community centres and elderly homes in the Moshi community on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Our Education, Healthcare & Community Enterprise Development Volunteer Projects allows volunteers to immerse themselves in the local culture and lifestyle through grassroots initiatives alongside community members such as teachers, nurses and community leaders while giving back.
Our mission is to maximise the positive force of volunteering through responsible management, education, strong partnerships and a passion for making a difference, while making sure our volunteers have a fun and rewarding adventure with us. We truly believe that volunteering has the power to change lives; we've seen it first-hand. We hope this video inspires you as much as it did us!

MAAJABU Ya Maji MOTO Yanayowavuta Wazungu Tanzania/Kilimanjaro #HotSprings
#Kikuletwa #HotSprings is located in the middle of a semi arid landscape, surrounded by sprawling fig trees. Amid the trees it features crystal clear water bubbling from underground springs. This is a perfect destination, to take a swim and relax after a Kilimanjaro climb or safari, or just to get away for a day. The drive from Moshi / Arusha takes about 1 hour 30 min each way.
The drive to Kikuletwa Hot Springs will take about 1 hour 30 min. Pick up will be around 9 am in Moshi or Arusha. On a clear day, beautiful views of Mt. Meru or Mt. #Kilimanjaro can be seen from the main road. After leaving the main road the drive will continue thru gorgeous African country side past small villages, bush land, dry riverbeds, as well as baobab and acacia trees. This area, which used to be a hunting ground for Europeans during the 1800s, is home to members of many different tribes, peacefully co-existing as neighbors. Although the game has long since migrated, it is still a haven to many animal species, including a large variety of birds. After 1 hour 30 min of driving, green sprawling fig trees fed by underground springs, will appear out of nowhere in this dry landscape, indicating Kikuletwa Hot Springs are within reach. The crystal clear water of the springs is perfectly refreshing and you may take a plunge via a rope from the trees, slowly wade into the water from the side, or just relax in the shade of the trees.

Arab melodies from Zanzibar with the queen of Taarab, the 93 year old Bi Kidude
Founded in 1958, the Culture Musical Club is Zanzibar’s premier taarab club. The
orchestra performs widely at concerts in Zanzibar town, but also frequently travels
overland with a fold-up stage and an electricity generator to bring its music to the
rural areas as well. The club has released hundreds of songs on the local market and
since 1988 they have had six releases on the international market. The orchestra has
had highly successful tours all over Europe in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005
and 2007; in September 2006 they toured the US to high acclaim, in July 2007 the
club performed in Japan. A North American tour is planned for the 2008-2009
season. Besides taarab, many club members are also active in kidumbak groups, smaller ensembles that play a more down-home dance-focused music. Both types of music are played on stage, contrasting the serene sound of orchestral taarab to the festive and sexually charged dance that is kidumbak.
On its tours the club regularly features invited guest singers. The summer 2009 will include the legendary 93 year old Bi Kidude, the veteran diva of Zanzibar, who is now in her mid-90s but is still famous for breaking taboos, both in her sexually-explicit lyrics and her bravery for daring to sing with her face uncovered.
