Berlin Wall Memorial in Germany
Visitors at Berlin Wall Memorial in Berlin city of Germany.
The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central memorial site of German division, located in the middle of the capital. Situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, it extends along 1.4 kilometers of the former border strip. The memorial contains the last piece of Berlin Wall with the preserved grounds behind it and is thus able to convey an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s. The events that took place here together with the preserved historical remnants and traces of border obstacles on display help to make the history of Germany's division comprehensible to visitors. The memorial is part of the Berlin Wall Foundation, which also includes the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum, the central site dedicated to the history of flight and emigration in divided Germany.

The Gedankstätte Berliner Mauer commemorates the division of Berlin by the Berlin Wall. Berlin wall documentary , History of Berlin Wall Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall . The monument was created in 1998 by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal State of Berlin. It is located on Bernauer Straße at the corner of Ackerstraße the Berlin Wall Documentation Centre, a 60-metre (200 ft) section of the former border, a window of remembrance and a visitor center. #Mauerfall30
The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls,[3] accompanied by a wide area (later known as the death strip) that contained anti-vehicle trenches, fakir beds and other defenses. The Eastern Bloc portrayed the Wall as protecting its population from fascist elements conspiring to prevent the will of the people in building a socialist state in East Germany.#visitberlin
GDR authorities officially referred to the Berlin Wall as the Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart (German: Antifaschistischer Schutzwall). The West Berlin city government sometimes referred to it as the Wall of Shame, a term coined by mayor Willy Brandt in reference to the Wall's restriction on freedom of movement.[4] Along with the separate and much longer Inner German border (IGB), which demarcated the border between East and West Germany, it came to symbolize physically the Iron Curtain that separated Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War.[5]
Before the Wall's erection, 3.5 million East Germans circumvented Eastern Bloc emigration restrictions and defected from the GDR, many by crossing over the border from East Berlin into West Berlin; from there they could then travel to West Germany and to other Western European countries. Between 1961 and 1989 the Wall prevented almost all such emigration.[6] During this period over 100,000[5] people attempted to escape and over 5,000 people succeeded in escaping over the Wall, with an estimated death toll ranging from 136[7] to more than 200[8][5] in and around Berlin.
In 1989, a series of revolutions in nearby Eastern Bloc countries—Poland and Hungary in particular—caused a chain reaction in East Germany that ultimately resulted in the demise of the Wall.[9] After several weeks of civil unrest, the East German government announced on 9 November 1989 that all GDR citizens could visit West Germany and West Berlin. Crowds of East Germans crossed and climbed onto the Wall, joined by West Germans on the other side in a celebratory atmosphere. Over the next few weeks, euphoric people and souvenir hunters chipped away parts of the Wall.[5] The Brandenburg Gate in the Berlin Wall was opened on 22 December 1989. The demolition of the Wall officially began on 13 June 1990 and was completed in 1992. The fall of the Berlin Wall paved the way for German reunification, which formally took place on 3 October 1990.[5]berlin major, berlin wall , peaceful music .

Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Memorial of the Berlin Wall
Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Memorial of the Berlin Wall
A GDR soldier jumping over the fence at the last moment. People jumping out of windows into sheets held out by West Berlin firemen – images of Bernauer Straße in August 1961 were seen all over the world. Today this historic location is the site of the Berlin Wall Memorial where the partition of Berlin is remembered. The large open air exhibition on the former border strip covers four areas with historical audio materials and pictures, a visitors’ centre and an observation tower. There is a 70-metre stretch on the Berlin Wall with border strip and watchtower directly on Bernauer Straße. The installation shows how the border was set up at the end of the 80s and gives visitors the lasting impression of the construction that once divided a country.
The exhibition in the documentation centre is on the other side of Bernauer Straße and shows the history of the construction of the wall in 1961. You can take a look at the remaining parts of the border crossing from a five-storey observation tower. There is also a Chapel of Reconciliation on the site. The former Church of Reconciliation was demolished in 1985 as it was directly on the border strip. Visitors to services in the new chapel regularly remember the victims of the Wall. The Window of Memorial on the site portrays the 130 people who were shot or died on the Berlin Wall.
Bernauer Straße, on the boundary between the districts of Wedding and Mitte, became a historical site with the erection of the Wall. The Berlin Wall was erected here in August 1961 directly in front of the East Berlin houses. Some residents decided to take flight at the last minute and used ropes to climb out their windows. Others were forced to move out and the windows of their flats were bricked over. The picture of the GDR soldier Conrad Schumann, who jumped over the barbed wire two days after the division of Berlin, is still famous today. Over the years the East Berliners constructed numerous escape tunnels around Bernauer Straße. When the partition of the city was finally over the first segments were broken off the Berlin Wall in the night from the 10th to the 11th of November 1989 in Bernauer Straße.

Berlin Wall Memorial, Germany
Berlin Wall Memorial - Berlin (Germany)
The Berlin Wall (German Berliner Mauer) was a physical barrier built by the German Democratic Republic (East German - socialist) during the Cold War, which surrounded all of West Berlin (capitalist), separating it from East Germany (socialist) including East Berlin. This wall, in addition to dividing the city of Berlin in half, symbolized the division of the world into two blocks or parts: Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), which was constituted by the capitalist countries headed by the United States; and the German Democratic Republic (RDA), constituted by the socialist countries under yoke of the Soviet regime. Built at dawn on August 13, 1961, it included 66.5 km of metal railing, 302 observation towers, 127 electrified metal nets with alarm and 255 runways for fierce guard dogs. This wall was patrolled by East German Socialist military with orders to shoot to kill (the celebrated Schießbefehl or Order 101) those who tried to escape, which caused the separation of tens of thousands of Berlin families.

Berlin Wall Memorial
When Berlin was a divided city, the Berlin Wall erected in 1961 ran along this street. Bernauer Straße became famous for escapes from windows of apartment blocks in the eastern part of the city, down to the street, which was in the West. Several people died here when the border was first enforced.

They were joined by the president's half sister Auma, who went to university in Germany and flew in to meet them from her home in Kenya.
The first lady and her daughters placed yellow roses in the gaps between the concrete slabs of the wall's main memorial.
The monument to the six million Jews killed by the Nazis was opened in 2005 next to the U.S. Embassy and the site of the bunker where Adolf Hitler killed himself.
