This film covers Cairo & its surrounds; including the Citadel, Souks, Mohammed Ali Mosque, The Pyramids of Giza, The Sphinx and the spectacular Pyramid Son et Lumiere show. We also visited the ancient capital of Memphis, Dahshur, and Sakkara, finishing in Alexandria.
Lower Egypt is the northern-most section of Egypt. It refers to the fertile Nile Delta region, which stretches from the area between Upper Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea — from El-Aiyat south of modern-day Cairo, and Zawyet Dahshur. Lower Egypt was known as Ta-Mehu which means land of papyrus. It was divided into twenty districts called nomes, the first of which was at el-Lisht. Because Lower Egypt was mostly undeveloped scrubland, undeveloped for human life and filled with all types of plant life such as grasses and herbs, the organization of the nomes underwent several changes.
The capital of Lower Egypt was Memphis. Its patron Goddess was the cobra goddess Wadjet. Lower Egypt was represented by the Low Red Crown Deshret, and its symbols were the papyrus and the bee.

Memphis & Sakkara Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Mempish & Sakkara in Egypt.
Around 2900 B.C., when Upper and Lower Egypt became one Great Empire, the Pharaohs declared Memphis, which lies in the southern Nile Delta, as their capital city.During its golden years in the second millennium B.C., Memphis extended 15 km, from Gizeh to Sakkara. Up until the time of the Roman Empire, this ancient city’s former buildings had been constructed from air-dried bricks and therefore, due to this process, sadly did not survive the years. Granite and limestone were used solely for its Temples, Palaces And Statues. The frightening and dismissive gesture of the Sphinx was meant to frighten away grave robbers and guard the Necropolis, the place of the dead. Its lion’s body and human head symbolize courage and mental prowess. Apart from Gizeh, Sakkara, in Lower Egypt, was an important city dedicated to the dead. The mother of all pyramids lies here, Pharaoh Djoser's Step Pyramid, which dates back to the year 2600 B.C. For almost 5000 years these stones have survived the forces of nature and who knows what future excavations may reveal from the sands of the Egyptian desert, sands that are not only of time but which held the hopes of the pharaohs and created among the richest treasures known to mankind.

Sakkara || Memphis|| Places Near Cairo||Historical places in Egypt.
Sakkara is best known for the Step Pyramid, the oldest known of Egypt's 97 pyramids. It was built for King Djoser of the 3rd Dynasty by the architect and genius Imhotep, who designed it and its surrounding complex to be as grand as it was unique and revolutionary. Imhotep was the first to build stone tombs in honour of the king's majesty.
Memphis, was a city and capital of ancient Egypt and an important centre during much of Egyptian history. Memphis is located south of the Nile River delta, on the west bank of the river, and about 24 kms south of modern Cairo.

Memphis, Egypt Outdoor Museum, and Saqqara Archeological Site
Memphis, Egypt, and Saqarra (sometimes spelled Sakkara) are one of the most extensive archeological sites in Egypt. It is from this area were in 3100 BCE King Namar founded the city of Memphis after the Unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. A short drive from Memphis are The Pyramids of Saqqara, the primary cemetery of the ancient capital, Memphis.
EGYPT 227 - MEMPHIS *MIT RAHINA* II - (by Egyptahotep)
MEMPHIS was the administrative capital of ancient Egypt, which has its historical roots dating back as far as the Early Dynastic Period. The origin of the foundation was by the mythical first king, Menes (Narmer), who is said to have united Upper and Lower Egypt for the first time around 3100 BC. Traditionally Menes was thought to have enclosed his city within white mudbrick walls which gave it the ancient name of 'Inbw-hedj',(means 'White Fortress')
Today the site centres around the modern village of Mit Rahina on the west bank of the Nile, 24km south of Cairo and is reduced to a small museum and an enclosure where statues are exhibited. Most of the existing remains date to the New Kingdom
The most impressive is the colossal statue of Rameses II is a twin to the statue which for decades was erected in Cairo. The museum piece is only a fragment, but even without its lower legs it measures nearly thirteen metres and once stood with its companion outside the Temple of Ptah at Memphis. The museum grounds display other statues of Rameses II, including one of red granite which once lay behind the museum but has now been erected at the eastern end of the garden. The other main monument is The Alabaster Sphinx of the New Kingdom. To the west of the museum enclosure the visitor can also see several embalming tables from the 'House of the Apis Bulls'. These animals were sacred to the god Ptah and after living out a pampered life, were ritually mummified and placed to rest with great ceremony in the Serapeum at Saqqara. The calcite embalming tables are over five metres long and the embalming house dates to Shoshenq I of Dynasty XXII, though probably replacing an earlier structure.
