Menaggio è situata nell'area centrale del Lago di Como, sulla sponda occidentale, all'inizio di un'ampia valle che collega Menaggio al Lago di Lugano. Già nel primo '800 fu scoperto dai primi villeggianti, favorito da suoi pregi paesaggistici e un clima particolarmente mite. A quel periodo risalgono i grandi alberghi come l’hotel Victoria e le lussuose ville come Villa Vigoni. Il paese è urbanisticamente costituito da un centro e da tre frazioni, Croce, Loveno e Nobiallo, e conta circa 3200 abitanti. Nella soleggiata frazione di Loveno, dove amavano soggiornare le famiglie patrizie, ci sono delle prestigiose ville, tra le quali primeggia la villa Mylius Vigoni.
