The Menara Gardens. Marrakech
The Menara gardens (Arabic: حدائق المنارة) are botanical gardens located to the west of Marrakech, Morocco, near the Atlas Mountains. They were established in the 12th century (c. 1130) by the Almohad Caliphate ruler Abd al-Mu'min.
The name menara derives from the pavilion with its small green pyramid-shaped roof (menzeh), meaning lighthouse (منارَة [manaara]). Although there is no actual lighthouse in the gardens, any building that sits at a high elevation is locally known as menara, such as the mosque Menaret manaara. The pavilion was built during the 16th century Saadi dynasty and renovated in 1869 by sultan Abderrahmane of Morocco, who used to stay here in summertime.
The Menara gardens
The pavilion and basin (an artificial lake) are surrounded by orchards and olive groves. The intention of the basin was to irrigate the surrounding gardens and orchards using a sophisticated system of underground channels called a qanat. The basin is supplied with water thanks to an old hydraulic system, which conveys water from the mountains located approximately 30 km away from Marrakech. It also served as a martial station.

Nice to see if you're in the area
The main photo says it all. The area is quite nice and a bit more peaceful than the busy medina, however, the main pavilion and bath are the main reasons to go to this garden in particular. There are a few nice photo opportunities and it is a nice place to relax, although I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

Marrakesh - Menara Gardens 9-12-2015
MENARA GARDEN:
The Menara Garden (حدائق المنارة) is a large garden of 100,000 olive trees of 40 varieties, at the foot of Atlas Mountains, about 3 km from Jemaa el-Fna, west of the downtown. It was got laid out in 1130 AD by Almohad Caliph Abdul Mo’min. The garden is spread upto the airport. It is a very peaceful place for a romantic stroll for the locals. The attraction for the tourists is a wide boulevard which leads upto a very large pool of water which was made 700 years ago for irrigation purposes for the gardens. The pool was fed with water through a waterway from Atlas Mountains, located 30 km away, through Qanat system. There is a pavilion on the bank with a beautiful small building with green top which is called Menzeh or Menara which has given the garden its name. Entry to garden is free but entry to the pavilion is one US$. The pavilion presents a great view of the surroundings.

VLOG - TRIP TO MARRAKECH - PART 2 - GARDENS & MORE
Marrakech is famed for its pink-hued historic buildings and souks, but just as important to the city are its beautiful gardens.
We went to visit two of them.
The Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech is one of the most visited sites in Morocco. Many of the built features were painted in a dark blue ('Majorelle Blue') which works very well with the soil, climate and plants. Water is an important feature of the garden - there are channels, lily-filled ponds and fountains. After years of neglect, the garden was then taken over and restored by the fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.
The Menara's lagoon and villa-style pavilion are ensconced in an immense royal olive grove, where pruners and pickers putter and local women fetch water from the nearby stream Moroccan families swarm here during the holidays to picnic in the olive groves.
Children can throw chunks of bread to the huge carp in the pool or ride camels outside the garden gate.
There was time to visit a typical pharmacy and on the spectacular Jemaa el-Fna square.

The basin was also buiilt in the 12th century, it's a 2 metres deep pool , and the water was received through the channels of the Middle Atlas mountains.
The menara was used as Barracks to train soldiers to swim .

Amanjena, Marrakech - Luxury Resort in Morocco - Aman
Discover the stunning Amanjena in Morocco ( Inspired by the rose-hued buildings of old Marrakech and its 12th-century Menara gardens, palatial Amanjena lies just outside the fabled Red City. Amid shady courtyards with petal-strewn fountains, traditional earth-toned pisé-de-terre walls give way to the central basin – it’s this ancient-style reflection pool that helps nourish the gardens and its date palms, olive trees and bursts of exotic flora. Vaulted ceilings and Moorish arches house cool, elegant interiors.
Amanjena’s five-star Pavilions and Maisons are cool, elegant dwellings with Berber carpets scattered over zellij-tiled floors. The sound of running water in fountains soothes while chaise lounges and candle lanterns lend classic Moroccan ambience. Several offer private heated pools.
Amanjena is set on the fringes of Marrakech, it is close to the allures of the city and within easy reach of the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert and the Atlantic coast. A varied landscape of rugged snow-capped mountains, parched desert dunes and winding coastline, Morocco has some of North Africa’s most diverse geography, all accessible from the five-star Amanjena resort. The ancient city of Marrakech is centred on its 12th-century medina, a red-walled former fortress crisscrossed by narrow lanes. Its attractions extend outward to the golf courses on the city's outskirts and the surrounding villages, where little has changed over centuries.

The Menara is a vast garden planted with olive trees laid out under the Almohad dynasty about 45 minutes walk from the Jemaa el-Fna square in the center of Marrakech, Morocco. At the heart of this garden, a large pond at the foot of a pavilion serves as a reservoir of water to irrigate crops. It is a very peaceful place, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is therefore a privileged place for walks.
The basin is supplied with water thanks to a hydraulic system that is more than 700 years old, which carries water from the mountains located about 30 km from the city of Marrakech. This basin allows irrigation of the olive grove.
