Mentone LSC – Mentone Marathon 2019
The Mentone Marathon is a 10km open water swim held at Mentone Life Saving Club and is their second open water swim, the first is held at the start of the swimming season with a one and two and a half kilometre distance on offer.
No in its third year, the Mentone Marathon Swim was one again held in March 2019. Here's a little video of our team, the Nunawading Orcas, defending our the title we held the past two years in the 4x2.5km non-wetsuit team relay.
The only difference from the past two years was that the non-wetsuit category seemed to be combined with the wetsuit category this year. I can only speculate that this is due to not many teams participating as either a duo or team of four, like us.
Nonetheless, the day was picture perfect with conditions superb, we couldn't have asked for better weather. The temperature was forecast for around 26°C with little wind.
There were a number of jellyfish that swimmers had to negotiate around with many getting stung, including three of our four team members.
In the presentations afterwards, organiser Peter Hendricks pointed out that we were amongst some notable open water swimmers this time around.
In all it was another great event.
