Mircea Dumitrescu discovered violin at the age of 4, when his grand-grandfather taught him the first notes. Born in Bucharest in 1998, Mircea quickly developed his extraordinary musical talent so that by the age of 11 he was regarded as “the little Paganini” by national media. A student at the George Enescu National College of Music in Bucharest, he won the first prize at more than 50 competitions, among which 18 international contests. Mircea was well ahead of his time: at the age of 12, he won the absolute first prize at the International Competition Alice Bel Colle” in Acqui Terme, Italy, competing in the 18-35 age category. He was the absolute first prize winner at the International Competition Giovani Talenti in San Bartolomeo al Mare, Italy in 2010 and performed as soloist with the Genoa Orchestra and the Romanian Orchestra in Bucharest in the following years. Mircea participated in the international festival Pablo Casals in Prades (2015) and performed in recitals throughout Italy, Germany and Romania.
His talent was highly appreciated by violin virtuosos David Grimal, Mihaela Martin, Liviu Prunaru, Gabriel Croitoru, Sherban Lupu, Varujan Cozighian, and Răzvan Stoica with whom he took masterclasses and private lessons. He had numerous TV appearances and is a well-known performer in the Romanian classical music scene. Mircea regularly performs at charitable and other public events. His repertory includes Bach, Paganini, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, Glazunov, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Sarasate, Wieniawski, Enescu, Kreisler, Dvorjak, Vivaldi, Kroll, Novacek, Ysaye, Debussy, Franck, and Rachmanninoff,etc. He has been supported by scholarships offered by Princess Margaret of Romania Foundation, Mol Romania Foundation, Dan Voiculescu Foundation, Ciprian Marica Foundation, Martin Sternin Foundation, Bright Light Foundation, Merci Charity Boutique, National Union for Performers and Musicians in Romania (UNIMIR), as well as by several private donors. After graduating from high-school, Mircea plans to study in Germany, and continue learning from the top violin virtuosos, while attending challenging competitions and performing for the international public.
Mircea Dumitrescu was awarded with Diploma of Excellence for outstanding performance given by the Romanian Government and
Diploma of Excellence of the Cultural League for the Unity of Romanians Abroad, Roma.
