Merricks General Wine Store is located about 1 hour from Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. We road test 3 wines here at Merricks General Wine Store. Ian the cellar door guy has lived and worked in several Mornington Peninsula vineyards over the years. He is a true scholar of the game with extensive knowledge of both production and tasting. Definitely a good dude to talk to! Merricks General Wine Store is the shopfront of 2 Peninsula vineyards. Bailieu and Elgee Park. Merricks General Wine Store also feature a local showcase of fellow wine crafters on heavy rotation. Their cafe and restaurant ensures the place is busy busy for breakfast and lunch every day except Good Friday and Christmas Day.

Find Your Way to Merricks House Art Gallery
Merricks House Art Gallery is a short meander through the garden from Merricks General Wine Store. The gallery showcases talent from both the Mornington Peninsula region as well as artists from across Australia. The 1920 building has been beautifully restored from many years of dereliction. Polished floor boards and open plan design provide a space ideally suited to a gallery. It has become a renowned Peninsula art destination with high profile exhibitions. Merricks House brings art from nearby and from across the country to the Mornington Peninsula for regular exhibitions. It is an intimate space for artists and visitors.

The winners of this year’s Mornington Peninsula Shire Best Bites Food Awards were presented with their awards by Mayor Councillor Graham Pittock at the Council Meeting on 9th May.
Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron and Hummingbird Eco Retreat Red Hill were joint winners of the Restaurant of the Year for their excellence in nutrition and healthy eating, tobacco control, waste and recycling, energy and water efficiency and access for all.
Merchant and Maker McCrae and Merricks General Wine Store were joint winners of the Café of the Year, with other category award winners being:
Aged Care:
Winner - Delivered Meals Service Rosebud
Bed and Breakfast:
Winner - Harmony Bed and Breakfast Fingal
School Canteen/Child Care:
Winner – St Josephs Catholic Primary School Crib Point
Supermarket:
Winner - Ritchies Mt Eliza

Winner - Palamara Fruits Mt Eliza
Innovation:
Joint winners were Merchant and Maker in McCrae and Mock Orchards in Red Hill
Foxey’s Hangout in Red Hill was awarded the People’s Choice Award for food businesses that were nominated by local food consumers.
Finalists in each of these categories were judged by an independent panel to determine the award winners.
Best Bites Food Awards is a Mornington Peninsula Shire program that recognises the most outstanding local food businesses in the areas of healthy eating, tobacco control, sustainability and access for all.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Graham Pittock said all winners and nominees were truly deserving of recognition.
“The Best Bites winners set great examples within the local food industry by ensuring that our community has access to safe, healthy and sustainable food,” he said.
Ange Barry, CEO of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation presented St Josephs Primary School with their award in the Child Care/School Canteen category.
The Best Bites Food Guide – which lists previous award winners and all local food businesses that have received Best Bites certification – is available free from Shire customer service centres, tourism offices and online at mornpen.vic.gov.au/Whats_On/Best_Bites_Food_Guide
Nominations are now open for the 2017 Best Bites Food Guide and Food Awards. The Shire is encouraging businesses to nominate by the closing date of 15 July, and is also encouraging customers to nominate their favourite food business for a Best Bites Award by emailing food@mornpen.vic.gov.au

Today, we are going out with a local beach fishing expert to see if we can “up” our beach fishing game. These beach fishing hacks helped us land SO MANY species of fish on the beach! A combination of our famous Squidy Bits and Chip’s ingenious Sputnik Sinkers seem to be the golden combo. Can you guess what species/how many species we’ll land? Tell us in the comments below!
We are fishing in Jacksonville, Florida this week. Here, Chip is pretty well known for his inventive beach fishing sinkers and his crazy amount of fishing knowledge. We had to check it out for ourselves. Chip helped us to catch SO MANY different species of fish! Thanks Chip for such a great day beach fishing!
