How to use the Metrobus and Metro (subway) systems
You should know that even though Mexico City is a huge metropolis, it is not that difficult to move around, especially because Metro and Metrobus that access to the business areas and main attractions of the city are so prevalent.
When I get to a new destination, I challenge myself to learn the transportation system. I find it a great way to save money on cabs and a great way to get to know locals and the city.
And remember... you can take the Metro and Metrobus to and from the airport.

Riding The Metro Bus in Mexico
While my main mode of transportation in Mexico city is the subway, I would rather take the bus because I get to see the city during my commute. However, the bus rides can be very bumpy and uncomfortable. Instead, I prefer to opt for metro buses due to their convenience and use friendliness, especially if you don't speak Spanish. So in this video, I want to take you on a ride from the east to the western part of Mexico city where most tourists will not go to. I rode mainly on the metro bus line 2 all the way to the terminal stop.
There are six Metrobus lines in Mexico city and what I love about them is that they have a dedicated lane, so it's a great option for your morning commute. Especially if you don't live close to a subway station or you would rather commute above ground.
I am fortunate to live close to two metrobus lines, so I don't have to walk all the way to the subway station.

CDMX - Metrobus Bus Rapid Transit Compilation
Metrobus is Mexico City's Bus Rapid Transit system. With 7 lines and around 700 buses, Metrobus is the fastest and easiest way to get around Mexico City. The first line, along Avenida de los Insurgentes, started in 2005 and is the busiest line in the network. The newest line, Line 7, runs along the Paseo de la Reforma which is the most important street in the entire city. Avenida de los Insurgentes is the second most important street in all of Mexico City. Metrobus serves all corners of the city including Indios Verdes, Chapultepec, Tacubaya, and the airport. Lines 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 use high-floor BRT buses, specifically designed to allow boarding from high platforms to match the bus' floor. Line 4 uses 40-foot low floor buses due to the route passing through the narrow streets of the historic downtown; Line 7 uses double-decker low-floor buses possibly due to reluctance to reconstruct the beautiful Paseo de la Reforma to allow for unsightly BRT stations.

New Yorker tries the Mexico City CDMX Metro for the First Time POV : No A/C, Hot and Uncomfortable
Google Maps Route:
I tried the Mexico City CDMX Metro for the first time as a New Yorker to get from the Zocalo to my Airbnb in Colonia Juárez. It was hot, very crowded, and really uncomfortable. I did feel that pickpocketing might be an issue. I emptied my pockets and put the contents in my backpack, which I wore in front of me. On the other hand, the metro ran pretty smoothly, the stations were absolutely clean and sanitary, maps were easy to understand, it was extremely inexpensive, and trains were frequent.

To this day, a fleet of approximately 28,000 peseros (as of 2007) carry an important part of Mexico City's public transport passengers, surpassing by far the capacity of the Mexico City Metro, STE trolleybuses, buses and taxis; peseros, (including VW Microbus, micros proper and full-length diesel buses) carry up to 60% of the city's passengers. ~Wikipedia

Metro de la Ciudad de México - Metro in Mexico City, Mexico 2017
The inaugural STC Metro line was 12.7 kilometres (7.9 mi) long, serving 16 stations, and opened to the public on 4 September 1969. The system has expanded since then in a series of fits and starts. As of 2015, the system has 12 lines, serving 195 stations, and 226.49 kilometres (140.73 mi) of route (including the recently opened Line 12). Ten of the lines are rubber-tyred; instead of traditional steel wheels, they use pneumatic traction, which are quieter and cope better with Mexico City's unstable soils. The system survived the 1985 Mexico City earthquake
