Mewata Armoury is a Canadian Forces reserve armoury in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The building was built between 1915 and 1918 for an original cost of CA$282,051. The building was designed by Thomas W. Fuller and the project was supervised locally by Calgary architect Leo Dowler. The structure was actually built by A.G. Creelman Co. of Vancouver, British Columbia. The building is located at 801 11th Street S.W. and is still home to local Militia Units, chiefly The King's Own Calgary Regiment and The Calgary Highlanders, but also 15 Field Ambulance Detachment Calgary, the 41 Canadian Brigade Group Influence Activities Company and various cadet organizations.

KOCR Observer Weekend at Mewata

We're doing something new to the Regiment. Our new series, Observer, will be taking a look at the general activity going on around Mewata Armouries, giving you a look at the day-to-day training occurring right here in Calgary, AB. Take a look inside one of our DP1 Armoured Crewman courses as they learn to operate the LUVW Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. The DP1 Armoured Crewman course is the first step for armoured soldiers getting their trade qualification which includes conducting reconnaissance drills, operating radio and communication equipment, and driving armoured vehicles.

Calgary Highlanders Change of Command 2013

On 11 September 2013, LCol Mike Owens handed over command of the Calgary Highlanders, an army reserve unit, to LCol Kyle Clapperton. The parade took place at the regiment's home, Calgary's historic Mewata Armoury. The reviewing officer was LCol Eppo van Weelderen, deputy commander of 41 Canadian Brigade Group. This event was recorded for the Calgary Highlanders History Project.

Calgary by Viper #8: Stephen Avenue Mall (04/07/2014)

Count the Car2Gos as I travel by Viper from the Shaw Millenium skatepark and the Mewata Armouries east along Stephen Avenue to City Hall.

In these videos I travel throughout Calgary, Alberta, Canada from my home in the inner-city northwest using my Team Hybrid Viper (a powered wheel that attaches to the front of my regular RGK wheelchair). I am usually going about 18kph (11.5mph) on the flats, although in one video I get up to 40kph. Calgary is a very open, clean, and accessible city that is well suited by bike travel.

Note that these videos and my driving skills (or lack thereof) are in no way endorsed by either Team Hybrid or the City of Calgary, and should not be emulated.
