Mexico City hails 2020 with music, not fireworks
(1 Jan 2020) Paseo de La Reforma, arguably Mexico's most important avenue, was once again home to New Year celebrations on Tuesday, bringing together thousands of people from all ages and a great variety of countries.
The Ministry of Culture of Mexico City offered a celebration spectacle bringing La Sonora Dinamita, a Colombian cumbia group, but no fireworks.
Revelers around the globe are bidding farewell to a decade that will be remembered for the rise of social media, the Arab Spring, the #MeToo movement and, of course, President Donald Trump.

MEXICO CITY (CDMX) VLOG #2
We ended up at one of the coolest spots in CDMX. The area was called Alameda Central.
Great music, food and of course some drinks and one drink in particular (Michelada) we had no idea they were rimmed with a special ingredient. Can you guess with what? It's in the title.
Alameda Central is a public urban park in downtown Mexico City. Created in 1592, the Alameda Central is the oldest public park in the Americas. It is located in Cuauhtémoc borough, adjacent to the Palacio de Bellas Artes, between Juarez Avenue and Hidalgo Avenue.

Mexico Virgin of Guadalupe Pilgrimage (La Fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe)
The Virgin of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico and she is inextricably tied to Mexican identity or ‘Mexicanidad’ (Mexicanness). We had the opportunity to witness the massive celebration dedicated to her that happens all over Mexico each year from December 9th to 12th. This religious and cultural event is even bigger than Christmas. It's known as the Pilgrimages of the Virgin of Guadalupe or la Fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe. The story of the the Virgin of Guadalupe goes back to 1531 near Mexico City. An indigenous farmer named Juan Diego was visited by the Virgin Mary who told him to tell the bishop to build a church in her name on that exact spot, known as Tepeyac Hill. She assured him to go and she would send a sign to show the bishop the veracity of Juan Diego’s claim. When Juan Diego opened his cloak, red roses fell from it and both men were shocked to see that the roses had left an image of the Virgin Mary imprinted on his cloak (tilma). This was the sign the bishop needed and the Basilica of Guadalupe was built on the very spot, as Mary wished.
Huge thank you to the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board and ENroute Communications for inviting us to experience the Virgin of Guadalupe Pilgrimage in Puerto Vallarta.

MASSIVE PARTY!! Our FIRST Mexican Independence Day!
This weekend we experienced our FIRST Military Parade and Mexican Independence Day in Guadalajara, MX.
►Save $40 on Airbnb with our link.
We could HARDLY WAIT to experience our first Mexican Independence Day (dia de la independencia) since beginning our travels in Mexico.
We spent it in our long-time home city, Guadalajara Jalisco. After enjoying how Mexico parties in Downtown GDL, we woke up the next morning to watch the Military Parade (desfile militar) on Avenida Chapultepec.
Although we're sad we were right in the square for El Grito the night before, we still enjoyed the party in Guadalajara Mexico. Our first holiday in México was a huge success! We are already counting down the days until Dia de la Independencia next year. Maybe we can see how Mexico parties in Mexico City next time!

HOLY WEEK IN SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE MEXICO (SEMANA SANTA)
Semana Santa (Holy Week) is a very special time in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. For hundreds of years, this city has honoured tradition in the most beautiful and dedicated way. The streets are decorated with flowers, balloons, archways, and candles as a procession is made from Atotonilco, a town twelve kilometres away, to a church in San Miguel de Allende. Thousands of people participate and observe this tradition each year and I feel privileged to have seen it. In this travel vlog, I share the preparations of the night before, which continue all through the night, and the procession itself, as the community gathers to carry a symbol of Christ through the streets.

TERREMOTO Magnitude 8.2 no México.
O US Geological Survey colocou a magnitude ligeiramente inferior, em 8.1.

The Missing 43: Mexico's Disappeared Students (Part 1)
Subscribe to VICE News here:
On September 26, teaching students from the Ayotzinapa Normal School in Mexico were intercepted by police forces en route to a protest in Iguala. In the ensuing clash, six people were killed, and 43 Ayotzinapa students were taken away by the police. Investigations over the following weeks led to the startling allegations that the police had acted at the behest of the local mayor, and had turned over the abducted students to members of the Guerreros Unidos cartel. All 43 students are now feared dead.
The case has come to represent the negative feeling of the Mexican public toward the state of justice and the rule of law in Mexico. The events have now galvanized the survivors of the attack and the disappeared students' parents. Nationwide demonstrations have increased in intensity, and recently led to government buildings in the state of Guerrero to be set on fire.
In this episode, VICE News travels to Guerrero, ground-zero for the protest movement that has erupted since the disappearance of the students, and meets with survivors of the Iguala police attack.

Crossing Point: The Rise of Mexican Dance Culture
Two cities’ defiant club scenes, through the eyes of Mexico-based DJ Man Power.
Geoff Kirkwood never planned to start a new life in Mexico. “I first came here about 3 years ago. I was immediately struck by the frontier-ist vibe to the music scene: the massive levels of enthusiasm from the people involved, and the general warmth of the Mexican people,” the UK-born musician tells FACT. “In the first year alone I must have came back something like six times.”
In Crossing Point, a new FACT documentary, Kirkwood and others try to unravel exactly what it is about this burgeoning club culture that is so magnetic. With a unique sound bridging both North American and South American influence, the film delves into Mexico’s current political climate, and the ways in which Mexican dance culture is rebelling against “police state” power structures there. Featuring Daniel Malaso, Thomass Jackson and other names from the Mexican scene, and spotlighting two clubs in two cities –MN Roy in Mexico City and TOPAZdeluxe in Monterray, it’s a gripping watch. Watch above, and read a short interview with Kirkwood below.
