Miami University - The Five Things I Wish I Knew before Attending
- As I reflect on my life as a student of the main campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, from 2001-2005, I have a strong desire to find Dr. Emmett Brown and time travel back to freshman year so I can relive many of these days! Here are five things I wish I knew about the college before I chose to attend. While colleges are not known to serve the best food, Miami is an exception to the rule. Their dining halls have fantastic food, and I still think about many of the meals I had to this day! My favorite spot.

I think this organization is so incredible and can really help make a difference in people’s lives.
i also wanted to include a link where you can donate to the families of the Dayton victims from the shooting that happened last Sunday. It breaks my heart that these terrible things continue to happen and at a larger rate too. Change needs to happen. As I mentioned in this my grandma lives in Dayton so it hits very close to home. Please donate if possible.

Magazine ranks home of Miami University top college town
OXFORD, Ohio (WKRC) - A Tri-State community can brag it's the best college town in the country.
Forbes Magazine listed Oxford number one in a new ranking. 32 years ago Andrew Amarantos and his brother moved from the big city of Chicago to the little college town of Oxford, Ohio. He said it was the best move they ever made. The brothers have been operating Skipper's Pub, one of the mainstays in the college town rated tops in the US by Forbes Magazine.
Oxford scored its high ranking based on 26 criteria including quality of education, cost of living, and crime rate. Miami students said Oxford was deserving of being ranked number one.
December 16, was graduation day at Miami. Some students were taking one last stroll in the small, Midwestern town that for the past four years they were proud to call their home away from home.
Other regional college towns named in the Forbes Magazine rankings: Athens was number four, Columbus 29, and Cincinnati 31. Lexington came in at number 92.
Miami University Love and Honor

It's about providing an atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning, to unforgettable experiences, and to growing as a person. Miami is, quite simply, college as college should be.

Coronavirus at Miami? Oxford campus reacts as 2 students quarantined
OXFORD, Ohio (WKRC) - The first potential cases of coronavirus in Ohio are under investigation at Miami University.
Two students, who both traveled to China, are isolated off-campus now.
The virus has killed 131 people in China. The number of cases there now tops 5,300. The entire city of Wuhan, where this all started, is locked down.
Outside of China, there are only 66 cases -- five here in the United States -- and no deaths.
At Miami, the school is taking precautions, like handing out facemasks and postponing basketball games Tuesday and Wednesday.
But, it's important to remember the two students are only being tested. These are not confirmed cases.
Health officials are saying it's not time to hit the panic button and students seem to be listening.
Tuesday night, a few students could be seen walking around with facemasks, but, for the most part, it seemed business as usual. Students say they’re grateful Miami is taking extra precautions, but, for the most part, they don’t seem worried.
For freshmen roommates, Jack Corcoran and David Martin, the fears of the coronavirus may be more hype than harm.
“I feel like it’s become a meme, to be honest. I’m not really worried about it. I know some people who are,” Martin said.
Those who are worried about the spread of coronavirus are literally wearing the worry on their face as masks are handed out on campus.
Corcoran said he started to take extra precautions after a text from his mother.
She started getting texts from other parents on Facebook about how deadly this is, so I was like, 'Oh, maybe I should be a little worried about this, so I’ve taken extra precautions and stuff like washing my hands,” Corcoran said.
That’s exactly what Ohio's director of health, Dr. Amy Acton, says residents should be doing since the virus is still low-risk.
“We stand ready. Ohio is prepared. We drill for this,” Dr. Acton said.
She points out catching the coronavirus is not likely as there are only five cases in the United States right now.
“We don’t want fear. We are much more likely to see a disease of contagion of fear than the actual disease. Matter of fact, you’re much more likely to get the flu or another cold right now,” she said.
That’s reassuring for Martin and Corcoran. Also calming their fears is Miami's response.
“For them to recognize it and then go for help and then for them to make some action on that, I think that’s a great thing on Miami’s part and that does put me at ease a little bit that they’re trying to contain it as much as they can,” Corcoran said.
Local 12 also checked in with the Cincinnati Health Department, and we’re told there are no coronavirus cases in the city.
It should be known in about a week whether the students do have the virus.
