STORYLINE
The Olympic torch continued its journey through China's Sichuan province on Monday, marking the second leg of the relay across the earthquake-ravaged zone.
Mathematics teacher Liu Ying was selected as one of 167 representatives from Beichuan county to watch the torch relay in Mianyang.
Much of the county was devastated when the 7.9-magnitude quake struck the western province of Sichuan on 12 May, killing some 70-thousand people.
Liu says she lost seven family members and relatives in the earthquake, including her brother, cousin and two uncles.
Dressing up in her traditional clothes, the 28-year-old expressed sadness at the fact that the Olympic flame did not come to Beichuan county itself.
But Liu admitted that having the torch relay in Mianyang is actually the same as having it in Beichuan and it still can increase our confidence in the post-disaster reconstruction.
The teacher was one of several thousand spectators who gathered at the Jiu Zhou stadium in Mianyang - the same stadium where thousands of earthquake survivors sought shelter after the quake.
Until June, they had crowded the lower floor of the stadium, sleeping on mattresses, blankets and cardboard boxes.
The stadium has since been completely cleaned up, its entrance decorated with potted plants, flowers and banners to welcome the torch.
As at other torch relay venues, hand-picked spectators, including students from badly-affected areas and military troops, waved Chinese and Olympic flags on Monday.
Liu joined the other spectators cheering for the torch bearers and chanting Go China, Go Sichuan, Go Olympics.
The arrival of the flame in the shattered town of Mianyang seemed to help raise the spirits of quake survivors and torchbearers said they hoped it would give people courage.
But for some earthquake survivors in Beichuan County, the arrival of the torch is bittersweet.
Mr Deng is a 41-year-old displaced person living in Longtou village.

Emptying China's 'Quake Lakes'
PlusEmptying China's 'Quake Lakes'Emptying China's 'Quake Lakes'The Associated PressWater is slowly draining out of a swollen lake in central China, thanks to a manmade spillway. The lake was created when last month's earthquake triggered a landslide that blocked a river. (June 6)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] [Notes:Dateline: Mianyang, China]The largest of about 30 of China's quake lakes has begun draining. They were formed after last month's seven-point-nine magnitude earthquake. And the lakes could be a major threat to cities, towns and the refugees living below them.In fact ... The threat of flooding has forced authorities here to evacuate more than 250-thousand people. That's why the asian nation went to some extreme measures to drain the quake lakes. [Notes:NATS of explosion] Workers deepened a diversion channel on Friday ... and water began draining off early Saturday. But state media say that even though water was flowing into the specially built diversion channel....Engineers were still uncertain about controlling the discharge of water. And officials are worried that those made homeless by the earthquake will take refuge in the unstable structures. ___ ___, The Associated Press.(****END****)

Special Report: Strong quake jolts SW China
In Beichuan County, rescue work is in full swing. Now, how to prevent further geological disasters that could cause new damage is becoming another focus of the operation.
This is Weijiagou, one kilometer from Beichuan. Before May 19th, it served as an important base for the Beichuan rescue team. But now the team has been sent to another location.
According to some geological experts, Weijiagou is a typical mudslide trench, which was also hit by the earthquake this time.
Several landslides can be seen here. If the rescue teams and tents were pitched in front of the trench, they can be greatly threatened by the mudslides brought by rainstorms.
Mao Chunjie, Senior Engineer of Mianyang City Bureau of Land and Resources said The tents of rescue teams should be set up at places which have good geological conditions. They shouldn't choose locations such as trenches, or under slopes. Flat ground is more favorable. And it's better to consult special departments before choosing the locations.
As the quake-hit areas are concentrated in mountainous regions, the temporary settlements are located around the hills.
The department of land and resources has set up some warning signs along the roads, and pamphlets of knowledge on mudslides have been distributed.

Chengdu - Leshan -- China (05/2014)
Pero ni tú mismo sabes de lo que está hablando esa triste y un poco absurda voz que llevas dentro. ¿Volver a dónde?
