A trip to Akaigawa in Hokkaido –6 Amazing gelato with original flavors using local ingredients!

The Michi-no-Eki Akaigawa (roadside rest area) building has a cute log cabin style design and offers many delicious Akaigawa specialties, including agricultural products and bread. In particular, gelato made using milk from Akaigawa is one of the most popular of products at the shop. The shop also recommends its original gelato made with rice. Visitors are sure to enjoy the unique popping texture of rice that can't be found anywhere else. This alone makes it worth it to visit Michi-no-Eki Akaigawa!

Access: By rental car or taxi – About 2 hr. from New Chitose Airport via expressway
By train and bus – About 1 hr. 10 min. from New Chitose Airport to Otaru Station by rapid train → get on the Chuo Bus “Express Bus Iwanai-go” at Otaru Station Bus Terminal and get off at Yoichi Station, which takes about 30 min. in total → get on the Chuo Bus to Michi-no-Eki Akaigawa at Yoichi Station and get off at the bus stop “Miyako,” which takes about 30 min. in total → about a 1-min. walk from the bus stop
*Please note the Chuo Bus to Michi-no-Eki Akaigawa only runs twice a day.

Open: 8:30 – 19:00 (May –Sep.), 9:00 – 17:00 (Oct. –Apr.)
Gelato: 9:10 – 17:00 (*This offer ends as soon as stock runs out.)
Closed: First and third Wednesdays of the month (Oct. –Apr.); the direct sales store is closed from November to April.

A trip to Abashiri in Hokkaido – Enjoy the drift ice aboard an icebreaker and Abashiri specialties

An icebreaker boat departs Michi-no-eki Ryuhyo Kaido Abashiri every day from the end of January to the end of March. It's impressive to watch the boat break apart blocks of drift ice as it moves forward. Visitors are sure to be stunned by the power of nature. After seeing the drift ice, visitors can enjoy local specialty cuisine at a restaurant overlooking the sea.

TATSUMURA KOHO Workshop Nishiki style Orimono in Kyoto Japan

I had the opportunity to visit Tatsumura Koho's workshop in Kyoto Japan. This workshop makes Nishiki style Orimono, which is a type of Japanese weaving.
Nishiki orimono is extremely high quality, extremely beautiful, and therefore extremely expensive. They are open to giving tours, and they have a gift shop inside. My visit was arranged by JNTO as part of a fam trip.
Tatsumura-san told me that creating the Genji piece was quite a challenge. The biggest issue wasn't weaving the piece or creating the art itself, but it was doing the research to gather enough information so that the scene from Genji Monogatari could be created as accurately as possible.
Not only was general accuracy an issue, the scene needed to be vague enough as to not attract complaints from the literary academic community. For example, special care was taken so that the kimono you see in the picture used colors that could have been worn during any season. There were special rules about the different styles and colors of kimono that would have historically been in which season, but the exact time that this scene in Genji Monogatari took place is not clearly known and apparently still debated in academic circles. Therefore, they chose a kimono color and style scene that arguably could have been used in a variety of situations and at any time of the year.

Hokkaido is the most northern and largest prefecture of Japan, it is also the second largest of four main islands that make up the country. It is known for its picturesque nature attractions and high quality local produce and dairy products. In summer, the weather in Hokkaido is relatively cooler than the rest of Japan and tourists visit to enjoy the many spectacular flower fields and beautiful natural scenery.

Besides delicious food (ramen, fresh seafood, sweets, everything), winter is perhaps what Hokkaido is most famous for. Every year in February, since 1950, “Yuki Masturi” or Snow Festival is held at Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido. Hundreds of magnificent snow statues and ice cravings, many depicting famous monuments, anime characters and celebrities, created by local and international teams are displayed in 3 event sites around the city. The festival drew worldwide attention after Sapporo hosted the 1972 Winter Olympic Games; today, as many as 2 million people, from Japan and aboard, visit the city for the 7 day event every year.

ホテルのモーニングビュッフェ。

このホテル、立地や館内施設がよいんです。

その上、朝食もおいしい。

和洋沖、いろんな料理が取り揃えられています。
沖縄に来たので、沖縄料理がおいしいことはうれしい。
ニンジンしりしりがいいねぇ。

オムレツは作ってもらえます。

This hotel location and in-house facility are good.
Moreover, breakfast is also delicious.

There are various dishes, Japanese style, Western style, and of the Okinawa style.
Since we cames to Okinawa, it is glad that the Okinawa food is delicious.

I had an omelet made.

They are very good!
