Ypsilanti Fire Department Shift One
With staff cutbacks along with the looming possibility of the city pursuing a hybrid police and fire department, firefighters with the Ypsilanti Fire Department have experienced a great deal of uncertainty throughout the past year. Story:
Ypsilanti Michigan: Destination Unknown (First published UAS town tour!)
In this, the first published overflight of Ypsilanti, Michigan, we are going on a lofty tour of one of my favorite small cities! Some of the sights you will be seeing on this unknown destination tour include (in the order of their appearance):
The first shot is of the town landmark, and it's impossible to miss from pretty much any direction you might go in town.
The mansions in the second and third shots house this organization
The riverfront park, open air theatre, and soccer pitch that are featured in various parts of this video make up Frog Island Park.
The Corner Brewery truly wonderful brew pub, housed in a sustainably renovated kindergarten building. Stop in and try the Bavarian Bliss, it's appropriately named!
Eastern Michigan University (formerly the Michigan State Normal School) is a lovely and well regarded university that has been serving the area for more than 160 years. It functions as brains and heart of the city.
As we fly beside the water tower, you can see in the distance the Tower Inn, a great place to grab a bite to eat or a drink after work. Try the Slim Jim sandwich; it uses their house baked bread, and it's delicious.
I have traveled across the continent, and I have yet to find a coffee roaster that is any better than the Ugly Mug Cafe right here in Ypsi. Their vegetarian sandwiches go great with their coffee, and the eclectic artwork on display is usually of exceptional quality. Try the El Diablo; it's a spicy Mexican latte with a dash of cocoa, and I can't get enough of it.
Our next destination is a street full of nice restaurants and eclectic shops that calls the old train depot its home. If I had to choose one business to highlight here, it would be the Sidetracks B&G ( which has great food and one of the loveliest carved wooden bars I've every seen.
And finally Michigan Avenue, the other food and drink destination in the city. Haab's restaurant ( is a great place to eat if you want an old fashioned menu, atmosphere and quality. They have been serving the community under that name since the 30's, and once a year they bring out their depression era prices for one day as a gift to everyone who doesn't mind standing in line for a great meal. If you are in the mood for some Detroit style BBQ, hit the Red Rock ( You won't be disappointed.

Ford Lake Ypsilanti Michigan Speed Boat View around lake
My husband and I were out on the lake and I decided to sit up front in the trolling seat and video tape. We pick up speed half way through and then he drives through this buoy course. It's a nice day and we go from one end to the other, it was fun.

CruisinForHeroesMovie2009
Dozens braved the rainy weather to enjoy the annual Cruisin' For Our Heroes event sponsored by the Baltimore County (MD) Sheriff's Office on September 12, 2009 at the Fire Museum of Maryland. Highlighting this year's event (and shown in the video) were three classic antique fire engines pumping together from a portable tank - a 1916 Mack Bulldog from the Baltimore Fire Department, considered one of the museum's prized pieces; a 1922 Ford engine that once served the Camden (Michigan) Fire Department; and a 1939 Ahrens Fox 500GPM/250GWT pumper that once ran with the Munster (Indiana) Fire Department. Also helping with the water display was an Oshkosh crash truck from Martin State Airport and Chesnut Ridge Volunteers Engine Tanker 503. Providing rides was a 1964 American LaFrance 900 series oben cab that formerly served with the Dover (New Jersey) Fire Department.
