Midas Monument in Eskisehir Turkey: Magnificent Phrygian Temple
Quick tour at Yazılıkaya (Midas city) Eskişehir/Turkey
Yazılıkaya which is called as Midas Kenti (Midas City) and Midas Anıtı (Midas Monument) -around 75km from Eskişehir/Turkey. Yazılıkaya means inscribed rock in turkish. Phrygian Yazılıkaya is located in the area of the Phrygian Valley at an altitude around 1,300 meters above sea level. It has 650 meters of length and 320 meters of width.
A BIT OF HISTORY...
The monuments of Yazılıkaya are dated to the period from the 8th to the 6th century BC. Yazılıkaya was the second most important place of the development of Phrygian civilization, with it's capital city - Gordion. This area was later on occupied during Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods.
The most important monument in Yazılıkaya is called as Midas Anıtı (Midas Monument). It is believed that it had been used as a house of statue of the goddess Cybele, also known among the Phrygians as Matar. The old phyrigian writings on the monument still remains partly mysterious. The second most important formation at Yazılıkaya area is called as Kırkgöz Kayalıkları (The Rock of the Forty Eyes) which was used in the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods later on. It was used as a rock tomb in the Hellenistic times and a multi-storied settlement was with chambers, passages, and stairways during the byzantine period. The third most important monument is called as Küçük Yazılıkaya/Bitmemiş Anıt (Little Yazılıkaya/The Unfinished Monument). Phyrigian writings used to start from the top to the bottom and the writings had not been completed as we name it so.Between the rock formations and monuments, there are water cisterns and zigzag stairways.
HOW TO GET THERE...
Yazılıkaya is around 75 km of distance from Eskişehir but there is no public transport directly to get there so you should take a public bus from Eskişehir to Seyitgazi (around 40 min) and then take a taxi. If not, you can bike there but you should have at least 2-3 days for this journey in order to see the traditional and ancient villages as well.
Enjoy your trip and how we say in turkish Hoşgeldiniz (Welcome)...

- This ancient site was probably religion center of the Phrygians.
- During the ceremonies, a statue of Cybele could be placed in the niche of the façade monument.

Tomb of King Midas in Gordion
The Great Tumulus, or Tumulus MM, or the tomb of Midas in Gordium has a diameter of 300 meters and is 47 meters high. It was built for a very important man, whose body has been found in a wooden chamber that measured about 6 x 5 meters. Even the contents of his last diner could be reconstructed.
The name tomb of Midas is modern. Because the timber used in the inner chamber was dendrochronologically dated to about 740 BCE, the deceased cannot be identical to the Mit-ta-a mentioned in an Assyrian text as the ruler of Muški, who asked Assyrian support in 710/709. (According to Eusebius, this Midas died in 695.) Apart from this chronological problem, it is now doubted Muški was the Assyrian word for Phrygia.

The Mosque in Beyköy - Phrygian Valley - Audio Guides
The news broadcasted in “The Indipentta” caused a great excitement worldwide. An ancient tablet written in the Luvi language was decoded for the first time. It was considered to be a chance for lighting up the dark ages. The tablet is a key for Mediterranean archaeology. Today it is not possible to see the most of the inscription because of its reuse in the mosque’s construction in 1978. A paper copy of the tablet is in exhibition not in front of the mosque which was duplicated by archaeologist George Perrot on a paper.

Phrygia Valley Turkey Ancient Stone Vehicle Tracks?
In Antiquity, Phrygia (/ˈfrɪdʒiə/; Greek: Φρυγία, Ancient Greek: [pʰryɡía], Turkish: Frigya) was first a kingdom in the west central part of Anatolia, in what is now Asian Turkey, centered on the Sakarya River, later a region, often part of great empires.
Stories of the heroic age of Greek mythology tell of several legendary Phrygian kings:
Gordias, whose Gordian Knot would later be cut by Alexander the Great
Midas, who turned whatever he touched to gold
Mygdon, who warred with the Amazons
According to Homer's Iliad, the Phrygians participated in the Trojan War as close allies of the Trojans, fighting against the Achaeans. Phrygian power reached its peak in the late 8th century BC under another, historical, king: Midas, who dominated most of western and central Anatolia and rivaled Assyria and Urartu for power in eastern Anatolia. This later Midas was, however, also the last independent king of Phrygia before Cimmerians sacked the Phrygian capital, Gordium, around 695 BC. Phrygia then became subject to Lydia, and then successively to Persia, Alexander and his Hellenistic successors, Pergamon, Rome and Byzantium. Phrygians gradually became assimilated into other cultures by the early medieval era; after the Turkish conquest of Anatolia, the name Phrygia passed out of usage as a territorial designation.

#5.Mycenae, Greece
The ancient Greek city of Mycenae, southwest of Athens, is widely known for its massive citadel and tholos (beehive-shaped) tombs. Stones used to build the city were so large that later Greeks believed the city was built by cyclopes. (Yes, that’s the plural of cyclops, the one-eyed giants.
#4.Midas Monument, Turkey
Archealogical remains in the northwestern Turkish city of Yazilikaya were likely built around 600-700 B.C. The most famous monument at the site is the Monument of Midas, named because it was previously thought to be the resting place of King Midas.
#3.Baalbek, Lebanon
Lebanon’s city of Baalbek (known to the Romans as Heliopolis, the “city of the sun”) was one of the largest sanctuaries in the Roman Empire and is quite well preserved, especially the Temple of Bacchus.
#2.Mohenjo-Daro, Pakistan
One of the largest urban settlements in the ancient world, Mohenjo-Daro was lost for thousands of years in Pakistan’s Indus River floodplain. It may be old but this city was light-years ahead development-wise, boasting a level of plumbing and sewage which modern-day Western homes didn’t achieve until the 20th century.
#1.Underground Churches of Lalibela, Ethiopia
Connected via underground tunnels and built over 800 years ago, the Underground Churches of Lalibela in Ethiopia were all built out of the same block of red volcanic rock. What’s especially unique about these churches is their positioning: the roofs of the churches are at ground level – they’re all underground to make use of natural aquifers.

Haspels Son Kurgu Türkçe

Hatuşaş -- Boğazkale
The village lies 200 km east of Ankara off the highway to Samsun and is well worth visiting as the site of Hatuşaş, the Hittite capital. Hatuşaş was once a great and impressive city, well defended by stone walls over six km length. Today the ruins consist mostly of reconstructed foundations, walls and a few rock carvings, but there are several more interesting features. The first site you come to is the Büyük Mabed, or great temple of the storm god, a vast complex that's almost a town in itself, with its own water and draining system, storerooms and ritual altars. It dates from the 14th century BC and it seems to be destroyed in around 1200 BC. There is much more to see such as Sarı Kale, a fortress, Aslanı Kapı (Lion gate), Yer Kapı (Sphinx gate), a 70 metre tunnel beneath the walls, and Kral Kapı (King's gate).
Yazılı kaya is an other site just under three km from Boğazkale, it was always a naturalistic religious sanctuary open to the sky, but in later times monumental gateways and temple structures were built in front of the natural rock galleries. There are two natural rock galleries. In the large gallery, the low reliefs of numerous cone head gods and goddesses marching in procession indicate that this was the Hittites' holiest religious sanctuary.
