Midnight Hole along Big Creek in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
This is video of the Midnight Hole swimming hole on the Eastern side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The water is cold, gin-clear, and is amazing! It's one of the most amazing places to visit in GSMNP! It's a 1 1/2 mile hike back to Midnight Hole, and while there don't miss the chance to hike just another 1/2 mile further and see Mouse Falls.......another amazing waterfall in GSMNP!

Mouse Creek Falls & Midnight Hole
July 6, 2009 - Great Smoky Mountain National Park - an early morning visit to the Big Creek area during on and off light rain. I had my Rode Videomic shotgun mic on for all but the last sequence where the father and daughter are jumping. I thought they were through jumping and had put away the camcorder and mic. Could only get the camcorder back out in time. Notice the difference in sound - especially the jump compared to when he did it earlier.

Take the Plunge...Midnight Falls
Midnight Hole Falls in the Smokey Mts offers an exhilarating jump into the cool waters of the Pigeon River. After a day of rafting in the Tennessee Smokey's, the guide suggested a short drive towards the North Carolina border and a hike up to Midnight Falls. The kids will definitely remember this for a while.
Mount Cammerer and Big Creek - Great Smoky Mountains National Park, NC
Big hiking loop from the Big Creek Campground in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, NC. First I took the Chestnut Branch Trail up to the Appalachian Trail and headed south towards Mt. Cammerer. The octagonal stone fire tower is one of the prettiest in the state and has good views of the Bald Mountains, Newfound Mountains, Mt. Sterling, and the northern Great Smokies, although it was very hazy this day. Next I continued south to take the Low Gap Trail down to Big Creek, a river really, and strolled back to the campground passing by Mouse Creek Falls and Midnight Hole. I even got to see a female elk wandering around the parking area at the end, in addition to a young copperhead, garter snake, and a swarm of butterflies feasting on horse poop.
Total hike 17.8 miles in 7 hours and 45 minutes with 4,359 feet elevation gain.

S3 E3 Three Night Loop in The Smokies May 2016
This 28 mile route from Cosby Campground over 3 nights/4 days completed a loop by way of a number of tracks through Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Low Gap Trail passed over the Appalachian Trail to connect with the Swallow Fork Trail before the Mount Sterling Ridge Trail led us to the Balsam Mountain Trail and the Tricorner shelter. From there, I enjoyed my first taste of the AT heading north before descending down the Snake Den Ridge Trail to where we started. Our rain gear served us well as we enjoyed the extensive variety of vegetation on offer in (YouTube Creator) Roger Lamb's backyard(AKA the Smokies). All and all, this route proved to be a fine introduction to the Great Smoky Mountains and hiking in Appalachia.

Midnight Hole NC
This is a great swimming spot in the Smoky Mountains! It's about a 45 minute drive from Gatlinburg TN, just over the North Carolina state line. From the parking lot, it's a mile and a half hike to the swim hole.

RV Travel │ Clingmans Dome, Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Clingmans Dome is a mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, in the southeastern United States. At an elevation of 6,643 feet (2,025 m), it is the highest mountain in the Smokies, the highest point in the state of Tennessee, and the highest point along the 2,192-mile (3,528 km) Appalachian Trail. It is also the third highest point in mainland Eastern North America, after the nearby Mount Mitchell (6,684 feet or 2,037 metres) and Mount Craig (6,647 feet or 2,026 metres).
This short, half mile journey up from the parking lot to the observation tower is well worth the climb. Make sure you bring a camera to capture the views and water if it is a hot day. (We are from Florida and the elevation killed us!). Highly suggest making the climb to the observation tower right before sunset!

Big Creek, NC (Midnight Hole Hike)
This hike was on the border of NC, and TN. The hike to the swimming hole is 1.5 miles. A pretty rocky hike, but an easy one all in all!

To get to Big Creek campground, you have to drive 1.2 miles on a gravel road.

Myron C.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Campground near Rafting Excursions on the Pigeon River
Even though the sites are walk-in sites, when I was there it was pretty crowded since the sites are close together. At night, you can hear the distant sounds of the creek … if the other campers can stop talking. This is not a campground for RVs. There are no hookups and there are no places for RVs to park. The thing I like best about this campground is its proximity to the Appalachian Trail and several other trails, including the Benton MacKaye Trail. Midnight Hole, which is a 1.5 mile hike, is a great place to cool off. Once you get there, you can swim to a big rock and jump off into a natural pool. I believe this is the same place I took Boy Scouts many, many years ago and they loved it. You just have to be careful because it is deep and COLD. The trail to Mount Cammerer is quite strenuous, but the view is worth it. Other than the great trails, the other attraction is the whitewater rafting. There are a few outfitters just over the state line, and they shuttle rafters to the starting point beside the power station. The one I used was NOC. When I first came here years ago, I thought the river looked low, but by the time we put our raft in, the river was raging. I think the most fun, besides the rafting, at this campground is playing on the rocks in the creek. There is also a group camping area, which is separate from the family campground. That is because they release the water just for rafting. This campground is conveniently located off of Interstate 40 near the Tennessee and North Carolina state line. Once you get to the national park road leading to it, it is a 1.2 mile drive on a gravel road.

A hike along Big Creek to Mouse Creek Falls, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, NC. Shot 4/3/14, a bright sunny day that was terrible for shooting water (we didn't even bother to take pictures at the Midnight Hole), but the spring flowers were looking good. Plants are: Phacelia fimbriata (Fringed phacelia), Phacelia bipinnatifida (Purple phacelia), Trillium luteum (yellow trillium), Trillium undulatum (Painted Trillium), Trillium erectum (white-flowered wake-robin), Thalictrum thalictroides (Rue-anemone), and Cornus florida (Dogwood).
