While daylighting was a key design goal, the reality is that most sports arenas are rarely daylit due to variable natural light conditions and potential for glare. The objective became to integrate uniform daylight with electric light. The design team's solution called for 16 2-meter by 2-meter mirror ducts each with three light-emitting panels–spanning 24 meters across the arena. To conserve space, the ducts were integrated within the box-shaped truss structure, which is part of the architecture and acts as the mounting surface for the light fixtures. Each mirror duct and truss also incorporate a maintenance deck for servicing the lighting–often a challenge in sports arenas. Clerestory daylighting is provided around the entire upper wall perimeter. The electric lighting, meanwhile, is based on the amount of daylight penetrating the space. The annual energy consumption is expected to decrease 66%, as compared to a design without daylighting, with an average illuminance of 500 lux. Lighting energy consumption is 17.2 watts per sq meter, more than 50% lower than that of other arenas relying solely on electric light.

Weeping Plum Blossoms 2019 #blossoms #flowers #spring2019 #springiscoming #Japan #Nagoya
It's almost time to say goodbye to the weeping plum blossoms here in Nagoya.
In Japanese, they are known as しだれ梅 (shidare ume), and are some of the best looking, best smelling displays of floral beauty you'll ever see.
The plum blossoms start blooming as soon as winter starts giving signs that it may soon be handing the reins over to the next season - Spring.
In some people's opinion, the weeping plum blossoms are more beautiful than the much more well-known cherry blossom, or sakura (which come in late March or early April) in these parts.

Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori DVD
In 1608 eight formerly farming families in Japan settled along a stretch of the Tokaido or 'eastern sea road' connecting Kyoto and Osaka to the new capital, Edo, now Tokyo. Taking up handicraft, they developed a peasant textile industry, initially mimicking the fine silk Shibori techniques found in Kyoto and ultimately developing their own methods and techniques for working with silk and cotton fabrics to create magnificent designs for summer and winter clothing and home decoration. Narumi joined in with the neighboring village of Arimatsu to create a cottage industry that would eventually grow to be known worldwide as Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori.
The Guild of Artisans of Arimatsu and Narumi in collaboration with Studio Galli Productions has released the most comprehensive overview of Shibori available in honor of reaching 400 years of continued production. Each part of the process is meticulously detailed in this sumptuous film, with narrative provided by acclaimed Shibori artist and scholar, Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada. Visit studios and workshops to see the Shibori processes demonstrated by the most expert artisans available today. Includes contemporary and historical examples of Shibori textiles hand made by local artisans.
Filmed in Arimatus and Narumi, Japan. Japanese, Spanish and English Sub-titles • Narration by Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada
