Migrants in Tapachula's Miguel Hidalgo Central Park
Migrants in Miguel Hidalgo Central Park in Tapachula, Mexico, wait for assistance on Jan. 29, 2019. The Mexico-Guatemala border less than 20 miles away from Tapachula, which is in Mexico's Chiapas state. The temperature was in the 80s and the heat index was in the 90s when I shot this clip at around 11:30 a.m. Toddlers in diapers were among those who were in the gazebo where I shot the video. Some of the migrants had put what clothes they had over railings and benches to air them out. The smell from human waste and garbage was almost overpowering at times.

A delegation of immigration and refugee rights leaders and advocates made a three-stop tour on Mexico City and Mexico - Guatemala border to get a first-hand look at the regional dynamics driving so many to flee their countries, as well as the conditions faced by Central Americans and other asylum seekers, this delegation will bear witness to the continuing humanitarian disaster occurring as a result of U.S. policies.
The delegation was an effort led by the Refuge for Families campaign, a transnational initiative that seeks to address and develop a humane and unified movement responsive to the plight of migrants along the Central America-US corridor.

MEXICO: PROSTITUTION
Spanish/Nat
Mexico's prostitutes are protesting their plight in society as the poverty conference in Copenhagen focuses on women's issues.
These forgotten women of Mexico are marking International Women's Day, by struggling to survive in a country in the throes of an economic crisis.
These are the forgotten women of Mexico - the ones that in order to survive in a harsh society must turn to the oldest profession.
These women - the prostitutes of Mexico City - try to find solace in the one thing that is constant in their lives, their faith.
On International Women's Day, groups of prostitutes attended mass at a local church.
Official figures puts the number of prostitutes in Mexico City at 200,000. Most get paid 50 pesos from each client, the equivalent of less than 10 dollars.
With the recent fall of the peso, their situation has gotten even worse.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
What leads us into this occupation is the economic situation that we have lived for many years and that every day gets worse. The problem is the crisis.
SUPER CAPTION: Ana Maria Casimiro, leader of the prostitute group M-U-S-A
Faced with government indifference to their plight and fearful of the growth of the AIDS epidemic, the prostitutes of Mexico City began organizing themselves.
The two most powerful groups are M-U-S-A (Women United Against AIDS) and HUMANS AGAINST AIDS.
According to the groups leaders , the two groups have more than
20,000 affiliates nationwide.
Products of an extremely Catholic society, many have turned to the church.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
We have to treat them like human beings, with respect. And by treating them respectfully like human beings they'll respond in a positive way.
SUPER CAPTION: Father Jose Ruiz
With the continuing decline of the peso, the economic situation in Mexico has taken a turn for the worse.
This only makes the drama of the daily lives of the prostitutes that much worse.

Guatemala: Desperate migrants appeal to Trump from Mexican border
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
Migrants unable to cross the Mexican-Guatemalan border painted messages addressed to US President Donald Trump onto giant American flags in the Guatemalan border town of Tecun Uman on Wednesday, appealing for help and safe passage.
Above all, it is a message addressed to [US] President Donald Trump, and to the President of Mexico, is an expression that we want peace, we don't want conflict. We don't want what happened days ago to happen again. Let's forget the things that happened, said migrant Bladimir Funes.
At least 100 migrants decided to make their way back to Honduras as hopes to cross the border dwindle. The Mexican government also flew at least 200 migrants who were detained after crossing the border back to Guatemala, while others were sent back by bus.
The Mexican government has to give in, because in the end people are asking them [to enter] in a good way, we are not doing things for evil [motives], we have faith in God that we have to go through, they have to give us permission to pass, said remaining Honduran migrant Raul Ortega.
Footage shows a 19-year old intoxicated migrant being taken care of by others. He is said to have tried to kill himself after losing his father and brother in the crowd as they tried to cross the border.
Washington applauded the Mexican authorities' crackdown on the migrants and their enforcement of the border with critics arguing this situation would favour people smugglers. A caravan of about 4,000 migrants arrived at the Mexican-Guatemalan border on Sunday, where clashes between the Mexican National Guard (GN) and migrants trying to force their entry broke out, leading the GN to close the border and more security forces to be dispatched to the area.
Since Sunday some migrants have tried to reach Mexico illegally in small groups by crossing the Suchiate River but many were intercepted and sent back to the Guatemalan side.
