The Miho Museum stands deep in the forested hill west of central Koka and can be visited in a side trip from Kyoto. It was designed by the renowned architect, I. M. Pei, and is named after Koyama Mihoko, one of the richest women in Japan and the founder of the museum.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the museum is the design of its structures and how they are integrated into their natural surroundings. This is highlighted in the museum's approach which leads through a mixture of man-made and natural environments. The inside of the museum continues this theme by contrasting steel and glass with warm stone and panoramic views of the surrounding valleys.
The museum's exhibits consist of works from ancient civilizations including the Egyptians, Romans, and various Asian cultures, with the pieces largely coming from Koyama's private collection. The main exhibit changes every year or so, and special exhibits change every few months. From Kyoto
Take the JR Tokaido Line (local, rapid or special rapid service) from Kyoto Station to Ishiyama Station (240 yen, 15 min). From there take Teisan bus number 150 to the Miho Museum (820 yen, 50 min). The bus departs from bus stop three and says Miho Museum in both English and Japanese on its sign.
The bus arrives at the museum's reception building which contains the ticket desk, gift shop, and a small restaurant. Purchase your tickets here before making your way to the museum's entrance either on foot (five to ten minutes) or by free museum shuttle. From Central Koka
Although there is a road that connects central Koka with the Miho Museum, there exists no direct public transportation between the two. Instead, a detour via Kusatsu and Ishiyama would be required. A rental car is recommended if you plan to visit both the Miho Museum and Koka's ninja attractions.
Hours: 10:00 to 17:00 (entry until 16:00)
Closed: Mondays (the following day if Monday is a national holiday). Closed irregularly for long periods of time between exhibitions. Please consult the schedule on the museum's website (see links below).
Admission: 1100 yen

Koka (甲賀, Kōka, also commonly pronounced Kōga) is a rural city in Shiga Prefecture, not far from Kyoto. Together with neighboring Iga, Koka can be considered the homeland of the ninja, and it features a couple of ninja related attractions.
What is Ninja?
Ninja is a person who served for a lord of manor or feudal lord from 1493 to 1573(the Sengoku Period), whose mission included sneaking into the enemy’s camp, conducting espionage, working out a plot and taking on an assassination.Since early times, Koka's proximity to Kyoto, in addition to its rugged terrain, made it a good hiding location for those seeking shelter, such as losing parties of battles. It was from such independently minded, self-governing families that ninja and their skills developed.
The mountains west of central Koka are also home to the Miho Museum, a unique museum whose interesting structures are blended in with the natural environment.

We went on a bus tour to Shiga and had a great time. It was our first time on one of these tours and I must say, it's really chill. Everything is perfectly mapped out for you, you don't have to do anything yourself. Then again, where's the adventure in that ay?
We'll be going on another little trip soon though, one of our own and we're really excited!

Koka's Ninja Mansion (忍術屋敷, Ninjutsu Yashiki) is close to 300 years old and used to be resided in by ninja. It appears like an ordinary house from the outside; inside however, it is equipped with many ingenious traps and devices, designed to prevent intruders and to provide a means of escape in times of need. Visitors are allowed to explore the house and discover its various trapdoors and secret passages.
Through various exhibits at the mansion, one can also find out about the various techniques for combat that the ninja employed, and their smart use of unique weapons and tools. There is also a shuriken throwing range where visitors can try throwing the weapons at target boards.
Hours: 9:00 to 17:00 (entry until 16:30)
Closed: December 27 to January 1
Admission: 600 yen (shuriken throwing available at extra cost)

Museum Miho didirikan di bukit berhutan sebelah barat Koka dan dapat dikunjungi di sela-sela perjalanan dari Kyoto. Dirancang oleh arsitek terkenal, IM Pei, dan dinamai Koyama Mihoko, salah satu wanita terkaya di Jepang dan pendiri museum.
Mungkin aspek yang paling menarik dari museum adalah desain bangunannya dan bagaimana mereka menyatukannya dengan alam disekitar. Walaupun ada jalan yang menghubungkan Koka Tengah dengan Museum Miho, tidak ada transportasi umum diantara keduanya. Malah diperlukan jalan memutar dari Kusatsu dan Ishiyama. Disarankan untuk menyewa mobil jika Anda berencana untuk mengunjungi Museum Miho dan melihat atraksi Koka Ninja.
Jam buka : 10:00-17:00 (kunjungan terakhir sampai pukul 16:00)
Tutup: Senin (tutup hari berikutnya jika Senin hari libur nasional). Tutup secara tidak tentu untuk waktu yang lama antar pameran. Silahkan konsultasikan jadwal di website museum.

MIHO MUSEUM（みほ みゅーじあむ）は、滋賀県甲賀市信楽町田代にある滋賀県の登録博物館。運営は、公益財団法人秀明文化財団。 神慈秀明会の会主・小山美秀子のコレクションを展示するため、1997年（平成9年）11月に開館。
コレクションは、ギリシア、ローマ、エジプト、中近東、ガンダーラ、中国、日本など、幅広い地域と時代に渡る優品2000点以上が含まれている。コレクション形成に数百億円をかけたともいわれ、日本にある私立美術館のコレクションとしては有数のものである。現在の館長は辻惟雄（東京大学名誉教授、日本美術史専攻）。 信楽町郊外の自然豊かな山中にある美術館は、「桃源郷」をイメージして造られている。レセプション棟から桜並木を通ってトンネルをくぐり、その先の吊り橋の向こうに展示館がある。利用者の移動の便のためと環境にあわせ、電気自動車がレセプション棟と展示館の間を往復している。
建物設計は、ルーヴル美術館の「ガラスのピラミッド」、ワシントンのナショナル・ギャラリー東館で有名な建築家、イオ・ミン・ペイである。建築容積の8割が地下に埋没しているというこの建物は、周囲の自然景観保全に配慮したものである。
設備設計は、東京国際フォーラム、横浜港大さん橋国際客船ターミナル、兵庫県立美術館など、多くの建築設備設計を行っている森村設計が担当している。美術品の価値や存在意義を維持するのに最適な環境を構築している。 * *
