Battleship Mikasa Museum 三笠記念艦
The Battleship Mikasa Museum is only a short 15-min walk from the Yokosuka Chuo Station (横須賀中央駅).
Built by Vickers shipyard in England, she was commissioned in 1902 until 1923. This 15,000t ship was most famous for its role as the flagship under Admiral Togo in the Japanese-Russo War in 1905. In the battle of Tsushima, she fired 124 twelve-inch shells, more than any other ship except Asahi's 142. During the battle, she was hit more than 40 times during the battle, including 10 twelve-inch and 22 six-inch shells, but none caused serious damage.
Ironically, she was sunk at her moorings after a fire and magazine explosion at Sasebo, just 6 days after the Treaty of Portsmouth was signed. She was later refloated and repaired with more powerful six-inch and 45-calibre twelve-inch guns. Following the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922, however, she was decommissioned, and is preserved as a memorial ship in 1926. Confiscated by the US armed forces in 1945, she was returned to Yokosuka in 1948 but in poor condition. Due to funding issues, restoration works didn't commence until 1959. In all, it took 2 years to restore her, and she was re-opened to the public in 1961.

If you wish to order this 1:24 model of the C57 Steam Locomotive, visit:
Your model is a highly detailed and beautifully crafted rendition of Japan's classic standardised modern engine. Made by Japanese National Railways (JNR) from 1937 to 1953, the Noble Lady was built as an improvement on the earlier Class C55 locomotives. Each high-quality component has been superbly recreated to the original spec by De Agostini.
This incredibly detailed 1:24 scale model of the C57 Steam Locomotive is available to build in pay-as-you-build or full kit option, complete with a short length of track and base on which to display it. Mainly constructed from solid brass sheet and tube with a black finish, all the moving mechanical parts are made of precision die-cast white metal. The completed model is 860mm long (including the tender) and weighs over 10kg. The model includes working lights and wheels, as well as authentic whistle and steam sound effects.
We provide clear step-by-step instructions to show you how to assemble and finish the parts - every step of the way. Even if you've never tried this type of project before, you'll be able to put your C57 steam locomotive model together in easy stages, learning the skills as you go.
You can also access our 'C57 Steam Locomotive' forum where you can ask other modellers questions, gain useful tips and hints, and follow the official ModelSpace build diary:
