Kelham Island has the best pub crawls in the country, full of award winning pubs. Many people like to start out at the amusingly named Bar Stewards micropub on Shalesmoor. Right across the road from that is the excellent Shakespeares with its massive menu of hand-pull drinks. It is then just a short walk to the extremely popular Kelham Island Tavern. This amazing pub is the only venue to have won the CAMRA’s national Pub of the Year award in two consecutive years.
If you’re arriving to the area on the Supertram, the Shalesmoor stop sits right next to The Wellington, the tap pub of the Neepsend Brewery. From there is is a hop over the crossings to get to the likes of The Ship, a historical pub which has been refurbished to a high standard in the last few years. It is said that two seamen, possibly smugglers, drowned during the Sheffield Flood of 1864 in secret tunnels under the pub.
Probably the most important pub in Kelham Island is The Fat Cat.
But what if Real Ale just isn’t your thing? Kelham Island has pretty much everyone covered. The Kelham Wine Bar is situated just at the end of the Ball Street bridge alongside its sister venue Graffiti Bar and Kitchen, which happens to have a lovely cocktail menu as well as a funky outside pod dining area.
Sat atop recycled shipping containers at the Krynkl complex is INC, Sheffield’s first rooftop bar. Some of the best Beer Gardens in Sheffield can be found in Kelham Island, such as Riverside Kelham. Remember to nip across the bridge for a good view of the famous artwork by Phlegm on the wall behind here.
The Milestone started the revolution of Kelham Island as a food destination.
What a place Cutlery Works is! Located in and named after the old Rutland Cutlery Works on Neepsend Lane, this amazing building has 14 food outlets and 3 bars on 2 floors - making it the largest foodhall in the North of England.
A must-visit event is Peddler, a night market that takes place at 92 Burton Road warehouses on the first Friday and Saturday of every month. This incredible space houses a huge rotating assortment of street food vendors, drinks, makers’ stalls, art and live music.

Sheffield Makes People: Matt Bigland & The Milestone Group
Sheffield’s independent scene is strong. With an ever-growing array of unique drinking and eating establishments on offer, there’s a new momentum in this Northern England city and the indie businesses have played a large part in injecting vibrancy back into the destination.
One of the MVPs of this scene is The Milestone Group, owners of a flagship gastro pub in historic Kelham Island, two craft beer & pizza restaurants, Sheffield’s first rooftop bar and the city’s first food hall, which opened in a converted cutlery factory last year.
The Milestone Group's Company Director, Matt Bigland, explains here why he loves Sheffield...

Lucid Reviews - The Milestone Restaurant Sheffield serves moldy food
Visited the Milestone on the 22nd June 2016 to celebrate a few birthdays, my move to Sheffield, and to also celebrate me getting a new job as well as to unite two family's who hadn't met in the 10 years I have been with my woman.
I had spent a princely sum on tickets for them all to watch Lionel Richie but first for a family meal at Sheffield's premier gastro pub as it calls itself.
Sadly, they served us moldy food!!! Something you would not expect from the winners of Gordon Ramsay's best British restaurant. Some poor customer service and tainted views spoilt the night and dominated the conversation for some days after....
At least I noticed the mold... My poor aunt didnt as she ate the moldy Yorkshire pudding whilst deep in conversation.
No professional establishment has the right to serve me or anyone moldy food.... Hence I need to share this with you.
Can the Milestone redeem themselves??

The louts were drinking at a pub following a pre-season friendly between Stoke City FC and Burton Albion FC. CCTV captured the moment Potters fans started attacking each other in the Locomotive pub in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs., on July 16 last year. At one stage a man is seen being dragged to the floor by three men before being hit repeatedly with a bar stool and kicked in the stomach.

Amateur snooker player James Cahill who beat world champ Ronnie O’Sullivan was once c aught
Amateur snooker player James Cahill who beat world champ Ronnie O’Sullivan was once caught sneaking a caseload of fags into the UK. AN AMATEUR snooker player who rocked the game by beating Ronnie O’Sullivan once tried to dodge £17,000 of VAT by sneaking a caseload of fags into Britain.
James Cahill, 23, was stopped by Manchester Airport Customs staff in 2017 with 7,000 fags and 61kg of tobacco in his luggage.
The legal limits were 200 and 250g and the Treasury stood to lose £17,729 in tax, JPs heard.
Cahill — who on Tuesday beat five-time winner Ronnie 10-8 in the first round of the World Championships — paid £3,000 for the haul at Dubai Airport.
He claimed other players suggested the racket to him.
His lawyer, David Charnley, said: “This was a venture doomed to fail . . . this was unsophisticated. He was not part of a gang. He went out to Dubai on his own. Other snooker players had suggested to him that this was a good way for him to make money.”
Cahill, who is snooker ace Stephen Hendry’s nephew, admitted fraudulently evading excise duty.
The rookie, convicted of drink driving in 2015, faced up to seven years’ jail but escaped with 17 weeks’ custody suspended for a year.
He also had to do 150 hours’ unpaid work.
Magistrate Judith Nuttall told him: “This offence is very serious and it breaches the custody threshold.
“But we believe that you genuinely didn’t intend to cause harm, and no loss was made.
“You are a young lad with lots of promise and I hope you have learned from this.”
Cahill, of Lytham St Annes, Lancs, has banked £30,000 by beating O’Sullivan, 43, to make the final 16.
After his victory at Sheffield’s Crucible, Cahill, who plays again on Saturday, said: “I’m here to win.”
