Bus trip to Milford sound, Queenstown, New Zealand
Bus trip to Milford sound, New Zealand
It was our third day in Queenstown, we planned to visit Milford sound. Milford sound is one of most beautiful and iconic places in New Zealand. It is the wettest place in NZ, and it rains for about 200 days a year.
We got up early and caught the coach at 7am. It tool five and a half hours to get there, on the way the driver stopped by some locations and allowed us to take pictures. The driver is very friendly and provides a lot of information..
The cruise to the Milford sound is one hour and forty five minutes. The weather was raining but because of this, more waterfalls formed so the sight was spectacular. The boat went underneath the waterfall and we got really wet. This was an unforgettable trip to Milford Sound.
The information below is from the website
Situated on the west coast of the South Island, Milford Sound is a fusion of spectacular natural features with amazing visual cues around every corner.'
Described by Rudyard Kipling as the 'eighth wonder of the world', Milford Sound was carved by glaciers during the ice ages. Breathtaking in any weather, the fiord's cliffs rise vertically from the dark waters, mountain peaks scrape the sky and waterfalls cascade downwards from as high as 1000 metres. When it rains in Milford Sound, and it often does, those waterfalls multiply with magnificent effect.

The BBQ Bus to Milford Sound
Our little BBQ Bus to Milford Sound was awesome. The guide was fantastic and we would stop several times in route (the drive is 5 hrs.) to do little hikes, etc. On this stop, we did a brief hike and then the guides BBQ for us. They even had special veggie burgers for me!

MILFORD SOUND NEW ZEALAND | A Travel Film (Sony a6300 4K) [NZ4]
A short travel film documenting our cruise on Milford Sound (within Fiordland National Park), New Zealand in October 2016. We took a coach bus from Queenstown to Milford Sound (stop at Te Anau, passing through Homer Tunnel) and sailed aboard the Pride of Milford (scenic cruise). The footage do not do justice to the beauty of Milford Sound, but hopefully inspires you to visit New Zealand's 8th Wonder of the World. The cruise is breathtaking and we highly recommend it. All shots hand-held. Enjoy the video!

Trip to Milford Sound, New Zealand
12 June 2018
Milford Sound with Milford Sound Select
6.55 AM Pick you up from your central Queenstown accommodation. We head south along Lake Wakatipu, under the looming shoulders of The Remarkables Range.
Beyond the rugged lake edge the country transforms to high country pastures surrounded by mountains then its down into the serenely beautiful farm country of the Northern Southland plains. Heading west towards the mountains and Te Anau we pass through some of New Zealand's most scenic farm country. Around us are clear streams and rivers, world-famous for their trout fishing.
At Te Anau village we stop for refreshments, looking across the lake we see the undisturbed eastern fringes of the bush clad Fiordland National Park, where green bush clad valleys rise to row upon row of mountain peaks.
We recommence our journey and travel north alongside Lake Te Anau entering Fiordland National Park. This World Heritage area, has some of the most spectacular and memorable scenery in the world. This is New Zealand as you imagined it.
From the Eglinton Valley with its endless golden tussock pastures, we travel into beech forests, past tranquil lakes and crystal clear rivers as we climb steadily into the very heart of the mountains. Passing through mist-covered valleys, carved out by rock and ice to reach the Homer Tunnel, the gateway to Milford Sound under the massive Darren Moutain range.
Starting our descent into Milford Sound we travel from cloud-capped forest peaks into the subtropical west coast valleys of Milford Sound. The sheer visual power of this place has earned its reputation as one of the seven wonders of the natural world, the road trip in is considered one of the great road trips in the world.
Here the cruise vessel awaits and it's time for another unforgettable perspective of nature at her awe-inspiring best. You can choose to have a comfortable window seat inside or stay on deck to make the most of the photo opportunities. Your Skipper will get you right up to spectacular waterfalls that cascade off the walls of the fiord, expect to see pods of dolpins dancing in the wake of the boat and seals lounging on the rocks only metres away. The boat has a bar where drinks and snacks can be purchased
