-- About this video --
Today we are finally leaving Te Anau and taking the Milford Sound road to Milford Sound. We’re taking a whole day to do this because there are so many awesome things to do on the Milford Road along the way!
We hit State Highway 94, the Milford Road between Te Anau and Milford Sound. First stop for us is the Eglinton Valley – a 2km wide valley with unreal scenery. There’s plenty of space to park up safely and embrace! Next, we stop at the Mirror Lakes, a short walk to a super reflective lake.
There are many safe viewing areas and lookouts to pull up to along the Milford Sound Road to see the Hollyford Valley and array of waterfalls on a rainy day like today.
Next we stop at the famous Homer Tunnel carved right through the granite of the Darren Mountains. It took around 20 years to build and is the start of our descent into Milford Sound. We arrive in an amazing valley of glacier-carved mountains and Fiordland National Park forest. This has to be one of the best roads in New Zealand.
Tonight we are staying in one of the only accommodation in Milford Sound, The Milford Sound Loge.
So what do you think of the Road to Milford Sound? Do you think it’s worth taking your time on? LUK in the comments!

Te Anau - Milford Sound Highway : Road to the Milford Sound New Zealand
I decided to base myself in the little town of Te Anau. The gateway to the Fiordland National Park of South Island New Zealand. Perhaps the highlight of a trip to New Zealand is visiting the Milford Sound. A fiord valley which opens out to the Tasman sea. The road leading to the sound is called the Te Anau-Milford Sound Highway and is perhaps amongst the scenic road I have ever had the chance to be on. It was raining really hard today, and this part of New Zealand gets plenty of rain due to its location. Some people would prefer to visit Milford Sound on a sunny day. But I would rather it rain like it did and see a million waterfalls cascading down the mountain sides. Truly spectacular. I decided to join a day trip tour group with Jucy Cruize, they provided round-trip transportation to Milford Sound from Te Anau, a 1 hour boat cruise, and a small lunch meal. The driver was really informative as he drove the small shuttle bus and gave really great commentaries about the history and the surrounding area. music by Setu-Firestorm

MILFORD SOUND NEW ZEALAND | VLOG 015
New Zealand Day 9 - Today was the best day I had while I was in New Zealand. We started our day with a warm coffee from the local bakery in Te Anau and then ventured through Fiordland into Milford Sound where we experience the most amazing boat cruise we've ever been on.

Fiordland National Park & Milford Sound, New Zealand
Headed further south from Queenstown to Te Anau and then to Fiordland National Park. After making a few scenic stops, the bus drove thru the Homer tunnel enroute to Milford Sound. A spectacular fiord, which i explored via the Southern Discoveries cruise. Cruising thru mountains and numerous waterfalls, the cruise went up to the end of the fiord at the Tasman Sea before returning to the harbor. This video contains the highlights from Fiordland NP and Milford Sound. Enjoy watching...!

The Homer Tunnel is a 1.2 km (0.75 miles) long road tunnel in the Fiordland region of the South Island of New Zealand, opened in 1954.
New Zealand State Highway 94 passes through the tunnel, linking Milford Sound to Te Anau and Queenstown, by piercing the Darran Mountain range at the Homer Saddle.
It connects between the valley of the Hollyford River to the east and that of the Cleddau to the west.
The tunnel is straight and was originally single-lane and gravel-surfaced.
The tunnel walls remain unlined granite.
The east portal end is at 945 m elevation; the tunnel runs 1270 m at approximately a 1 : 10 gradient down to the western portal.

Honeymoon in New Zealand, Day 13, Part 1
February 20, 2015 - Traveling from Queenstown to Milford Sound on New Zealand's South Island, winding around the southeast side of Lake Wakatipu before looping back northwest through Te Anau, the Homer Tunnel, and the Southern Alps in Fiordland National Park via New Zealand State Highway 94, also known as Milford Road. Perhaps the most gorgeous drive I've ever been on, part of a day trip to Milford Sound on the Milford Sound BBQ Bus.

MILFORD SOUND MITRE PEAK QUEENSTOWN NEW ZEALAND
from diary overland nomad
Highway 8 twists and winds like a cut snake through canyons for the next eighty kilometres, the large hills eliminating all radio reception in the car. One hundred kilometre speeds drop to thirty-five kilometres per hour on some corners, with streams below the highway dressed in the reds of an NZ native bush and yellows of poplars. Then the land flattens into farming country filled with grazing sheep. “The New Zealand economy rides on a sheep’s back,” I commented. “Unlike Australians, most New Zealanders are country people. They are incredibly hospitable and honest.” We stopped in Cromwell, for a coffee, then commenced the seventy kilometre drive on Highway 8B to Queenstown, the most incredible drive of the journey. This highway follows the riverbed of the Kawarou River, site of a major gold rush in the nineteenth century. The road winds left and right, and up and down, lined by a drop-off to the canyon below and backed by large hills.
Arriving in Queenstown at dusk around 6.00 PM, we checked into the Aurum Suites at sunset, and then drove down to the Bombay Restaurant for an Indian extra hot beef, lamb and chicken curry meal and a Morrison Black beer.
