Prodromos Mountain Walk Troodos Cyprus
#hikingcyprus #walkingcyprus #cypruswalk #troodos #cyprus #prodromos #limassol
Expert route because half of the path has no sign at all you have to climb up on steep slope rely on GPS or compass. At the top, you able to find a living forest finally where is birds are singing, not killed by hunters. On the top pine forest is so beautiful and a quiet well visible forestry road will guide you until reaching the mountain top where you have to down on even more steep slope on rolling stone, but this part is marked pretty well. Very easy to miss the intersection when you able to return faster, even if did hike longer route just yesterday I did miss the intersection and have climb back to find the right trail. Due to no marks, steep slopes I mark it to expert level and honestly perhaps my nicest hiking experience.

Prodromos is a village in the province of Limassol found in the geographic region of Southern Marathasa, at a distance of 60 kilometers northwesterly from the city of Limassol.
It is built at an altitude of 1.380 meters from the average sea level and is the only village of Cyprus having such a high altitude.
It accepts a very high average annual rainfall that reaches 922 millimeters. In its region, they are cultivated various species of deciduous fruit trees (apple trees, cherry trees, plum trees, pear-trees, and peach trees). The village of Prodromos is particularly famous for the exceptional quality of its apples. However, the bigger extent of the village is uncultivated. Part of the government-owned forest of Troodos raises in its administrative limits. The bigger water sources not only for Prodromos but also for the entire mountain range of Troodos, are the group sources of Chartzi. Due to works at the “Chromium” mine, almost all groundwater at the region of Prodromos has changed direction.Up to 1962 the deciduous fruit trees of the village, that their extent was about 24 hectares, were irrigated exclusively by the sources of Chartzi and other smaller sources. However, the continuous increasing needs for the irrigation of the new plantations of fruit trees as well as the utilization of the sources Chartzi for the water supply and irrigation of the village, imposed the manufacture in 1962 of the dam of Prodromos having a capacity of 110.000 cubic meters. The dam is found near the main street of Prodromos-Troodos, in the locality Damaskinari and from this dam, 23 hectares, that are cultivated with deciduous fruit trees, are irrigated.

Kannoures Nature Trail - Kakopetria - Troodos - Nicosia - Limassol - Cyprus Part I.
Pretty much awesome trail very well marked at every point. Difficulties comes from some river cross and pass small gorges made by rain water to reach river. Long and tough to go always uphill. Most people go down hill only , that is much easier.
My route is different at several points than just walk thru on nature trail.
I did visit Chromium mine , you can expect difficulties to reach the mine, due huge rock falling and from leave the mine , due river did ruin the path there.
I did it uphill and back much more tough than just go down.
I did use my 4x4 car on forestry road and mark to you where you can park safely.
I did visit the neighbor valley at an easy viewpoint when you can get out from river valley, go for it ! scenery is breathtaking.
Study weather forecast before go, on rainy winter days it can be dangerous !

Beautiful valley, with wild river especially at winter in the rainy season. At summer it is a safe and pleasant place to walk.
You have to cross river multiply times and not always end with dry feet , so summer is way better option to walk here than winter. If you still continue my route in the river bed soon you will reach Amiantos mine waste dump and Diamond Lake sadly lake will be dry in hot summer. If you still go forward around the lake that is expert level!! you can get out at the main road of Troodos. Gum boots are very handy especially at cold temperature. EOKA hideout is very interesting , don't be lazy as most people discover it. I don't think so out of river bed and go thru the village is very interesting so I did pass it. I did run out from the time to reach the mine field :( had to turn back ..
The trail runs through a beautiful hillside and along the riverbank with lush vegetation, ending at Amiantos Park. It also passes the restored hideout of the EOKA fighters and the stream Loumata ton Aeton. From linear, the trail becomes circular by following the roads through the village towards the summer camping site of S.E.K Trade Union Confederation. The trail is located within the Troodos National Forest Park.

Mydestination Platres
The village of Platres located in the heart of Troodos Mountains offers a variety of activities to the visitors whatever the season to choose from.
Platres become well known due to the hospitality and the ideal holiday destination for people seeking relaxation. In the area there were many famous hotels such as the Forest Park Hotel, Grand Hotel, New Helvetia, and Semiramis. The wonderful climate of Platres put the village on the cosmopolitan map and since then it is considered as the resort of the poets and kings. Amongst others King Farouk of Egypt, Princess Royal Mary of England, Indira Ghandi as well as the Greek nobel price poet George Seferis spent their holidays here.
Yet there is more to Platres than that, lovers of nature, culture, archaeology and history will find a wealth of attractions. If it is walking, cycling, skiing, snowboarding quarding, Platres is your destination Natural attractions such as the Caledonia and Millomeris waterfalls, geological and botanical trails, forest picnic sites, medieval bridges and snow pistes can be found in a small distance.
In the process of rejuvenating the area, the 19th century Old Market has recently reopened its doors to be a modern culture center that host exhibitions and culture events. In addition Platres has now become the home of a unique business, THE PLATRES CHOCOLATE WORKSHOP.
The brand-new Sports Center hosts a station of mountain bikes and a downhill bike race track that cuts through the forest. The racing and walking track finish is by the lovely Milia Bridge.
Last but not least one must have a taste of the traditional Cypriot cuisine which is a tasteful and exciting experience. Loukomades, sweets and chocolates. I must do stop is the Forest Park Hotel where Brandy sour was first created
