Belgrade Fortress is the core and the oldest section of the urban area of Belgrade. For centuries the city population was concentrated only within the walls of the fortress, and thus the history of the fortress, until most recent times, equals the history of Belgrade itself (see: Timeline of Belgrade history). The first mention of the city is when it was founded in the 3rd century BC as Singidunum by the Celtic tribe of Scordisci, who had defeated Thracian and Dacian tribes that previously lived in and around the fort. The city-fortress was later conquered by the Romans, was known as Singidunum and became a part of the military frontier, where the Roman Empire bordered barbarian Central Europe. Singidunum was defended by the Roman legion IV Flaviae, which built a fortified camp on a hill at the confluence of the Danube and the Sava rivers. In the period between AD 378 and 441 the Roman camp was repeatedly destroyed in the invasions by the Goths and the Huns. Legend says that Attila's grave lies at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube (under the fortress). In 476 Belgrade again became the borderline between the empires: the Western Roman Empire and Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire), and the Slav-Avar State in the north.

The Military Museum in Belgrade was founded in 1878. The museum has over 3000 ancient and modern items. These include Roman swords and helmets, Greek helmets and daggers, Serbian heavy knight's armor, axes, shields, helmets, crossbows, armoured gloves, as well as Western medieval weapons. There are also more modern guns, firearms, and elements of soldier's uniforms and equipment. Dioramas, plaques, and displays illustrate the use and historical context of the museum's collection. Inside the museum's main building, the exhibits are found in a single long hall progressing from ancient through medieval and then towards modern. All exhibits are labeled in the Serbian Language in both Cyrillic and Latin, as well as English. Outside the museum's main building, there are numerous tanks, howitzers, and armoured cars of many types. Some were acquired during World War II, when they were captured by the Red Army and Yugoslav Partisans from retreating Nazi and Axis forces (Belgrade Offensive). These decommissioned tanks and artillery pieces line the walls and paths leading into the Military Museum from two directions. Recent exhibits address NATO actions against Serbia in 1999, including the controversial use of cluster bombs, depleted uranium, and graphite bombs, some of which are claimed to be in violation of international law. A well-known exhibit features parts of a US F-117 stealth aircraft which was downed by a Serbian S-125 Neva/Pechora.
The Military Museum is located inside the walls of the historic Belgrade Fortress, situated at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. The Belgrade Fortress is located within a popular park known as the Kalemegdan Park, near the center of the city.

Tour the Belgrade Museum of Aviation in Serbia
Belgrade’s Museum of Aviation, which used to be known as the Yugoslav Aeronautical Museum, is located in Surcin, Belgrade, next to Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport. It contains one of the most unique collection of aircraft and fighter jets in the world, including aircraft made and owned by the Soviet Union/Russia, USA, Germany, Yugoslavia, as well as jets and prop driven planes from Canada, the U.K. and France.
Also included in the collection is the canopy and various pieces of wreckage from an F-117 Stealth Fighter shot down near the village of Budanovci, Serbia on March 27, 1999, as well as pieces of an American F-16 Fighting Falcon that was also shot down, as well as a badly damaged MQ-1 Predator drone, a unique Lockheed T-33, a MiG-21 and more unique fighter jets, fighting warbirds from World War II and before.
I want to thank my good friend and colleague Sam N. for taking the time to visit and film this great museum while visiting his in-laws in Serbia.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended the official presentation by the armed forces of its new helicopter fleet at Batajnica Air Base near Belgrade on Saturday. It includes four Russian Mi-35М, three Mi-17 military as well as nine Airbus H-145M helicopters.
We purchased state-of-the-art attack helicopters Mi-35M for which it is hard to find an analogue in the world. I am thankful to our Russian friends who are helping us to assemble them, said Vucic.
The Mi-35М, multi-role combat helicopters, often called ‘flying fortresses’, were delivered earlier this week, several months earlier than it was planned.
