Dacii la Muzeul Militar Național (2018)
Dacii la Muzeul Militar Național (2018) | Dacians at National Military Museum, Romania

Jewish Romania: Holy Union Synagogue of Tailors Museum, Bucharest
Steve and I kept on going with guide Eduard (romaniajewishtours.com and medievaltours.com) to the Holy Union Synagogue of Tailors, now a Jewish History Museum. This temple managed to survive in its entirety through both World War II and Ceausescu (Romania's last Communist leader) who was intent on destroying anything having to do with religion. Built in 1850 by the Jewish Tailors' Guild of Bucharest, this stunning temple had Moorish, Romanesque and Byzantine elements.
Displays inside included a collection of books, paintings of and by Romanian Jews, and archives of Romanian History.

Romania (#07): Sighetu Marmatiei
Sighetu Marmatiei ... inhabited since the Hallstatt period, the urban area was situated on an important route that followed the Tisza Valley. The first mention of a settlement dates back to the 11th century, and the city as such was first mentioned in 1326. In 1352, it was a free royal town and the capital of Máramaros comitatus of the Kingdom of Hungary. From 1556, the settlement was a residence of Transylvanian Princes; from 1570 to 1733, the town and the county were part of the Principality of Transylvania. In 1733, King Charles III returned it and Máramaros County to his Hungarian domain. Sighetu Marmatiei was one of the Romanian, Rusyn, and Jewish cultural and political centers in the Kingdom of Hungary.
It became part of the Kingdom of Romania at the end of World War I, and was again under Hungarian administration during World War II as a result of the Second Vienna Award. The latter lasted until 1944 and in these years more than 20,000 Jews from Sighet would be sent to Auschwitz (including the Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel, born in Sighet) and other Nazi extermination camps. Nowadays there are only about 100 Jews living in Sighetu Marmatiei. The Treaty of Paris at the end of World War II voided the Vienna Awards, and Sighetu Marmatiei returned to Romania.
In the 1950s and 1960s, after the establishment of the Romanian communist regime, the Securitate ran the Sighet prison as a place for political repression of public figures that had been declared class enemies. The former prison is now a museum, and a Memorial for the Victims of Communism.

Jewish Romania: The Brasov Synagogue
While walking through old Brasov, one of the seven walled citadels settled by the Saxons, guide Cristi led us past a synagogue founded in 1901. Closed today, a Saturday (Sabbath), it is open Monday-Friday, 10:00a-1:00p.
Jews were given permission to live in the Saxon section in 1807, a rare privilege since only Saxons were allowed inside the core of this city; Romanians were only allowed enter the inner Citadel at certain times.
The Brasov Jewish community now numbers about 230 since many families left for Israel after World War II.

Oradea
Oradea the capital city of Bihor County and Crișana region, is one of the important centers of economic, social and cultural development in the western part of Romania, retaining these characteristics throughout history. The city is nestled between the hills that separate and unify in a harmonious way with plain Crișana. Located on the banks of Crișul Repede River, that divides the city into almost equal halves, it is the gateway to Central and Western Europe. The city is located in the north-west of Romania, at the intersection of parallel 47 ° 03' north latitude with meridian 21 ° 55' east longitude.
Located about 10 km from Borș, the most important crossing point on the west border, Oradea ranks tenth in size among Romanian cities. It covers an area of 11,556 ha. The city is at an altitude of 126 m above sea level, in the opening of the Criș valley and the plain area, in an area of contact between the extensions of the Apuseni Mountains and the extended plain Crișana-Banat. It lies as the area of transition from relief hills, to the Pannonian plain. City topoclimatic action is determined by the prevailing Western winds. Climate is Temperate Continental, with some oceanic influences.

This time we have a Special Metal Detecting Video for a very special day. Metal Detecting WW2
Today on December 1'st I celebrate the National day of Romania and I would like to dedicate this video in the memory of all Romanian soldier fallen on duty on the World War One and World War Two battlefields.
As you will see in the video we have found a WW2 Romanian Helmet on a top of a mountain close to 1400m altitude. It was a cold early Spring day and we decided to check out a spot deep in the mountains where Romanian army fought against German army in 1944.
This was a great day for metal detecting in a WW zone I have no doubt and I hope you enjoyed this and if you did so please subscribe to our channel for more interesting videos with our trips in the Carpathian Mountains unveiling the the echos of the past.
