Svidnik open air museum (skanzen), Slovakia 2016
The open-air ethnographic exposition of SNM (The Slovak National Museum) – Museum of Ukrainian Culture in Svidník (múzeum ukrajinskej kultúry) – is stretching on the area of 10 hectares right in the vicinity of the open-air amphitheater. On the base of substantial material the complex open-air ethnographic exposition opened in 1982 and illustrates to the visitors complex image and perception of basic living conditions of Ruthenians – Ukrainians in Slovakia in the past. The most typical landmarks of folk architecture, housing and living style in this part of Slovakia are concentrated here. Historical objects and buildings have been moved here and reconstructed and there are installations of typical folklore furniture, house inventory, traditional working tools and installations of folk artworks. Besides the main types of dwellings there are also presented in expositions all types of traditional farm buildings: barn, pigsty, garner, mow buildings, cellars, wells and other smaller buildings or constructions. These historical buildings are used for installations of traditional agricultural and farm equipment – various types of farm cars, ploughs, farm gates, coffers (“súseky”), baskets for corn and other various tools and equipment.

SUMMARY
=======
The newly formed Slovak Republic during World War II was occupied by Germany and forced to cooperate with members of the Axis. The Slovak State (also the first state of the Slovaks) was founded with help of Nazi Germany. After the Slovak-Hungarian War Hungary annexed a great part of the country. In 1940, under pressure from Germany, Slovakia joined the Axis.

Slovak National Uprising
The Slovak National Uprising or 1944 Uprising was an armed insurrection organized by the Slovak resistance movement during World War II. It was launched on 29 August 1944 from Banská Bystrica in an attempt to resist German troops that had occupied Slovak territory and to overthrow the collaborationist government of Jozef Tiso. Although the rebel forces were defeated by Nazi Germany, guerrilla warfare continued until the Soviet Army, Czechoslovak Army and Romanian Army occupied Slovakia in 1945.
In the post-war period, many political entities attempted to hijack the uprising to their credit. The Stalinist regime in Czechoslovakia presented the Uprising as an event initiated and governed by Communist forces. Slovak ultranationalists, on the other hand, claim that the uprising was a plot against the Slovak nation, as one of its main objectives was to oust the regime of the puppet Slovak state and reestablish Czechoslovakia, in which Slovaks were dominated by Czechs. In fact, many factions fought in the uprising, including large rebel units of the Slovak Army, Democratic resistance and Communist partisans, and international forces. Given this factionalization, the Uprising did not have unambiguous popular support. Yet the participants and supporters of the Uprising represented every religion, class, age, and anti-Nazi political faction of the Slovak nation.

SUMMARY
=======
The Slovak National Uprising (Slovak: Slovenské národné povstanie, abbreviated SNP) or 1944 Uprising was an armed insurrection organized by the Slovak resistance movement during World War II. This resistance movement was represented mainly by the members of the Democratic Party, but also by social democrats and Communists, albeit on a smaller scale. It was launched on 29 August 1944 from Banská Bystrica in an attempt to resist German troops that had occupied Slovak territory and to overthrow the collaborationist government of Jozef Tiso. Although the resistance was largely defeated by German forces, guerrilla operations continued until the Soviet Army, Czechoslovak Army and Romanian Army liberated Fascist Slovakia in 1945.
In the post-war period, many political entities, mainly the Communists, attempted to hijack the uprising to their credit. T-34/85
Finnish use: Seven tanks were taken to Finnish use during Continuation War. First T-34/76 was taken to Finnish use in October of 1941. The last of these tanks remained in Finnish use until year 1961. The tanks were both captured in combat and brought from Germany.
Finnish estimates and experiences:
Early Finnish estimate of T-34 tank: Armour quite adequate, diesel-engine works reliably even in winter, speed quite adequate - apparently the tank has a good off-road mobility. Our troops have succeeded destroying these tanks with satchel charges thrown to rear deck. Tank crew has poor visibility outside, tank tracks can be broken with satchel charges, antitank-mines or with 37-mm antitank-guns. 45-mm antitank-gun can penetrate lower side hull armour between road-wheels or if the tank is tilted suitably (turning sloped side hull armour into vertical position) it can penetrate also higher side armour.
Finnish tank crews found T-34/76 to obviously be a massive improvement over earlier tanks like T-26E and captured Soviet T-26.
Production history:
Introduced in 1944 as a counter to the German Panther and Tiger 1, the T-34/85 was one of the best tanks to fight in World War II. Nearly 50,000 were built between 1944 and 1958 and it was produced in larger numbers than any other World War II tank.
The T34-85 mounted an S-53 85mm gun carried in a three-man turret.
Weight: 32.0 tons
Length: 6.10 meters (about 7.5 meters with gun)
Width: 3.00 meters
Height: 2.60 meters
Max. Speed: 55 km/h on road
25 km/h off road
Engine: 500hp V-2 12-cylinder diesel engine
Weapons:
85 mm ZiS-S-53 (L/51.5) tank gun (56 rounds)
2 x 7.62 mm DT machinegun, coaxial and hull (1.827 rounds)
Crew: 5 men
Production: 1940 - 1944, total number manufactured about 34,780 tanks.
Panssarimuseo
Panssarimuseo on perustettu vuonna 1961 ja siihen tutustuu vuosittain yli 30 000 kävijää. Museon kokoelmiin kuuluu noin 70 panssariajoneuvoa, 40 panssarintorjunta-asetta ja panssarijuna. Pienesineistön ja arkistomateriaalin määrä on mittava. Siihen kuuluu runsaasti panssariveteraanien jälkipolvien nähtäväksi luovuttamaa aineistoa.
Parola Armour Museum
Parola Tank Museum, Armoured Vehicle Museum is a military museum located 110 kilometres north of Helsinki in Parola, near Hämeenlinna, Finland, a few kilometres from the Finnish Army Armoured Brigade training unit. It displays various tanks, armoured vehicles and anti-tank guns used by the Finnish Defence Forces throughout their history. A rare exhibit is an armoured train used in World War II. The museum was opened on June 18, 1961, when there were 19 tanks and 12 anti-tank guns on display.
