清明上河园是由河南省开封市人民政府与海南置地集团有限公司合作建设的一座大型宋代文化实景主题公园，坐落于开封市龙亭湖西岸，是首批国家AAAAA级旅游景区和中国非物质文化遗产展演基地。
清明上河园是以画家张择端的写实画作《清明上河图》为蓝本，按照《营造法式》为建设标准，以宋朝市井文化、民俗风情、皇家园林和古代娱乐为题材，以游客参与体验为特点的文化主题公园。集中再现原图风物景观的大型宋代民俗风情游乐园，再现了古都汴京千年繁华的胜景。

In 12th and 13th century A.D. several conflicts erupted between the Jin and Song dynasties. Jin dynasty attacked the Song in November 1125 leading their army towards Kaifeng, the Song capital in Henan Province, China. In 1126 the Jin attacked Kaifeng but retreated after being paid. However, in 1127 AD the Jin resumed war against Song dynasty and again besieged Kaifeng. The city was looted and Chinese Emperor captured. The Song Dynasty lost Northern China and retreated south where they built a new capital in Hangzhou. The retreat of the Song court marked the end of the Northern Song era and the beginning of the Southern Song. After Mongol’s invasion of China in early 13th century, Song formed an alliance with Mongols and in 1233 joinly defeated Jin. The Jin dynasty collapsed a year later. After the demise of the Jin, the Song dynasty itself became a target of the Mongols, and fell in 1279.

The famous historical painting of Kaifeng shows an incredible 40 m scenery of the city of Kaifeng which existed a thousand years ago.

The city of Kaifeng being an important trade hub during this time, and was also historically inhabited by jews. The jews were trading with the Chinese just as it is today.
In 2009 Israel invited the Kaifeng jews back to their country and many followed the call.
Noblemen on horses, children on foot, playing, ladies being rowed on the lake, or carried by Sedans.
This scenes have been marvelously recreated by the Municipality of Kaifeng, so that once more people enjoy the life of the old days.
I came across dishes that were popular in Song Dynasty, and to my astonishment we tasted a delicious sweet made from yellow maize, a variety of nuts, and raisins, steamed like a cake.
Lunch was set as 1000 years ago. All in all a great experience.

Polenta is made from yellow maize. The only difference from Italy and Chinese polenta is that the Chinese polenta is sweet, rather than salty.
