Welcome to Fairhaven, Massachusetts to the Millicent Library, rumored to be haunted by friendly ghosts of Millicent Rogers and a few others. When I am in the library, I am a lot more quiet than ususual.

(21 Sep 2017) STEFANIA BANDIERA INSPIRED BY SOCIALITE MILLICENT ROGERS FOR LES COPAINS READY-TO-WEAR SPRING 2018 LINE
Stefania Bandiera says she was inspired by the late American socialite and fashion icon, Millicent Rogers, and spirit of Mexico for the Les Copains spring 2018 ready-to-wear collection.
She showcased the line Thursday (21 SEPT. 2017) at Milan Fashion Week.
Rogers is regarded as one of the fashion icons of the 20th century. She is best-known a time period that she spent living in Taos, New Mexico, where she curated a southwestern look with voluminous blouses, broomstick skirts and Native American jewelry.
Her influence was visilble on Thursday's Les Copains runway, there were white shirts with billowing sleeves, gauzy tunics with cross-stitch embroidery, or a sculptural white organza trenchcoat featuring laser-cut roses on the sleeves. Models also wore maxidresses in red and pink, some with crochet tops - referencing the brand's knitwear heritage.

Unitarian Memorial Church, 1904 ~ an architectural journey in Gothic Design, Fairhaven Ma.
Driving around I always see this magnificent church. One day I decided to stop and get a good look at these ornate designs. Stone carved faces peek out at you around every corner.and you really do feel like you are transported into another time. Check out the intricate carving out of bronze as well. There is always something to see and a story to be told... Happy Exploring ????
The Unitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven Massachusetts was built, financed and donated to the Unitarians in 1904 by Henry H. Rogers in memory of his mother, Mary Eldredge Huttleston.
The church was designed by Boston architect Charles Brigham in a Gothic Revival style. It is one hundred fourteen feet in height, one hundred feet long in body and fifty-three feet wide. The nave is thirty-two feet wide and seventy-one feet long. The main aisle is sixty-two feet long and six feet wide. The church, parish house and former parsonage (now Harrop Center) of the Unitarian Society are so placed as to form three sides of a quadrangle, set among well-kept lawns and shrubbery.
Granite (locally quarried) with Indiana limestone form decorative carvings which dominate the exterior while marble and limestone carvings dominate the interior. All stonework artistry was created by forty-five Italian craftsmen brought in to Fairhaven.
At the south entrance to the sanctuary are the great bronze doors, extremely rich in design, each leaf is solid bronze weighing 2 1/4 tons. Following the Gothic outline of each leaf is a series of niches. Those on the exterior are canopied, each containing a finely modeled figure nine inches high. The thirty-eight statues represent great characters in the history of Christianity, covering a period of nineteen centuries.
The stained glass windows are the work of American Impressionist artist, Robert Reid. They cover the theme of the birth of Jesus in the Memorial Window utilizing color and shading from cool blues to warm earth tones through the nine clerestory windows from East to West. Seven of these windows are titled with one of the Beatitudes (or Blessed Be's) which Jesus was teaching his Disciples as illuminated in the glorious twenty-four foot high Sermon on the Mount window located on the west wall. One notable effect of the windows is the natural flesh quality in the figures. Two years were spent in their design and execution. These stained glass windows were Reid's most prized work, a masterpiece set and his only effort in stained glass.

A Drive on Rt. 6 Fairhaven Heading East in 1985
The dashboard cam was rolling on a short drive on Rt. 6 in Fairhaven in 1985. It's a little shaky and not that good of quality (it was 1985). But it's good enough to see old familiar landmarks along the route including Barbero's, A&W, Howard's Used Cars, the old water tower at the corner of Aldan Road and Rt. 6, Brooke's Drugs, Star Store, Almac's and the Texaco. If you look to the left you can see the empty field where the condos are now (just before the car wash). Anyone notice anything else?

1983 FAIRHAVEN POLICE CRUISER DASHCAM #7
Cushman Park - Fairhaven Center, Route 6 and more. Officer Richard Claflin was probably the first in the region to initiate a dash cam in his cruiser in 1983. He taped every street in the Town Of Fairhaven in the fall of 1983. He did this to document what Fairhaven streets were like for other to see someday. Over 30 years later, the clips have been transferred and digitized in several 9 minute segments. All sections in town were covered.
Original police calls can be heard on the cruisers radio. For those who weren't around town back then, I caution this is as boring as watching paint dry. But if you were around, the footage may show someone you knew, a familiar car or house or maybe even yourself. Guess where the clips were taken! MLBaron Historic Archives.
Fort Phoenix Fire Power-Fairhaven,MA
Shortly before the War of 1812, Fort Phoenix was enlarged under the supervision of Sylvanua Thayer, who later became the Father of the Military Academy at West Point. In June of 1814, the fort helped repel an early morning attack by British in landing boats from the HMS Nimrod.
Fort Phoenix was manned throughout the Civil War by troops who rotated duty between the Fairhaven fort and the newer Fort Taber in New Bedford. Eight 24-pound cannon were installed at the beginning of the war, five of which remain at the fort today.
Fort Phoenix went out of service in 1876. In 1926, it was purchased for the town by Lady Fairhaven, Mrs. Urban H. Broughton of England, a daughter of the town's benefactor Henry Huttleston Rogers. Since then it has been maintained by the town as a public park. westislandweather.com

The Fairhaven Project, Pt. 1
The Fairhaven Project is a public-private partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the Northeast Maritime Institute (NMI) of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The 2008 program brought six Israeli and Palestinian students to Fairhaven for three weeks to live and work as crew aboard the 74-foot tall ship S/V Fritha. Student selection was based on leadership, maturity, and having been touched by the violence around them. The structured curriculum included elements of oceanography, ecology and maritime science. Most importantly. the program brought the Arab-Israeli conflict to a very human level and, in the end, even the most conservative members of the group understood the perspective of the other side, and a constructive dialogue of how to bring peace to the region was established. The students returned home with an alternate vision of themselves, the conflict, and the role they could play. The transformative nature of this program advances the cause of peace between the Israelis and Palestinians, and provides impressionable youths in the region an alternative path to peace. The Fairhaven Project continues and, in 2009, the six students returned to the U.S. with four additional students to continue to expand the dialogue of peace.
