Dundee is a coastal city on the Firth of Tay estuary in eastern Scotland. Its regenerated waterfront has 2 nautical museums: RRS Discovery, Captain Scott’s Antarctic expedition ship, and 19th-century warship, HM Frigate Unicorn. North of the water, Verdant Works is a museum celebrating the city’s jute-manufacturing heritage. The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum displays art and archaeological finds.
Dundee officially the City of Dundee, is Scotland's fourth-largest city and the 51st-most-populous built-up area in the United Kingdom. ies within the eastern central Lowlands on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, which feeds into the North Sea. Under the name of Dundee City, Dundee forms one of the 32 council areas used for local government in Scotland.
Historically part of Angus, the city of Dundee developed into a burgh in the late 12th century and established itself as an important east coast trading port. Rapid expansion was brought on by the Industrial Revolution, particularly in the 19th century when Dundee was the centre of the global jute industry. This, along with its other major industries gave Dundee its epithet as the city of jute, jam and journalism.
Today, Dundee is promoted as One City, Many Discoveries in honour of Dundee's history of scientific activities and of the RRS Discovery, Robert Falcon Scott's Antarctic exploration vessel, which was built in Dundee and is now berthed at Discovery Point. Biomedical and technological industries have arrived since the 1980s, and the city now accounts for 10% of the United Kingdom's digital-entertainment industry. Dundee has two universities — the University of Dundee and the Abertay University. In 2014 Dundee was recognised by the United Nations as the UK's first UNESCO City of Design for its diverse contributions to fields including medical research, comics and video games.
A unique feature of Dundee is that its two professional football clubs Dundee United and Dundee F.C. have stadiums all but adjacent to each other. With the decline of traditional industry, the city has adopted a plan to regenerate and reinvent itself as a cultural centre. In pursuit of this, a £1 billion master plan to regenerate and to reconnect the Waterfront to the city centre started in 2001 and is expected to be completed within a 30-year period, with the Dundee Victoria & Albert Museum opening by 2018 at a cost of £80 million.

Broughty Ferry Castle (Dundee, Scotland) - DJI Phantom 3 Drone Flight
Broughty Castle is a historic castle on the banks of the river Tay in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Scotland. It was completed around 1495, although the site was earlier fortified in 1454 when George Douglas, 4th Earl of Angus received permission to build on the site. His son Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus was coerced into ceding the castle to the crown. The main tower house forming the centre of the castle with four floors was built by Andrew, 2nd Lord Gray who was granted the castle in 1490.
The castle saw military action during the 16th-century War of the Rough Wooing. After the battle of Pinkie in September 1547 it was surrendered by purchase to the English by its owner, Lord Gray of Foulis. A messenger from the castle, Rinyon (Ninian) Cockburn, who spoke to the English supreme commander the Duke of Somerset before the castle was rendered was given a £4 reward. The Scottish keeper, Henry Durham, was rewarded with an English pension, income from the fishing, and an import/export licence. Durham later lent the English commander £138. William Patten, the English writer who accompanied Somerset, noted the castle's strategic importance.
The Earl of Argyll tried to capture the castle on 22 November 1547 and again in January 1548 with 150 men led by the soldier Duncan Dundas, without success. Thomas Wyndham brought two more ships in December 1547 and burnt Balmerino Abbey on Christmas Day. On 12 January 1548, one hundred matchlock guns were delivered from Berwick, with powder flasks, matches, touch-boxes, and bullet moulds.
Military and modern use
In 1846 the castle was bought by the Edinburgh and Northern Railway Company in order to build an adjacent harbour for their railway ferry. In 1855 the castle was acquired by the War Office with the intention of using it to defend the harbour from the Russians. In 1860 renewed fears of a French invasion led the War Office to rebuild and fortify the site. The site was rebuilt according to the designs of Robert Rowand Anderson. The walls of the main courtyard were rebuilt and new wing and courtyard were added to the tower. A caponier was added along the south-east side of the courtyard. Emplacements for nine large guns were also constructed. A small enclosure on the west side of the courtyard was also built.
From 1886 to 1887 a range was built to house submarine miners to the east of the castle. In an emergency these would lay mines in the Tay Estuary to damage enemy shipping. In 1889–1891 a magazine was built within the western enclosure which also led to a major remodeling of the gun emplacements. The castle remained in military use until 1932, and again between 1939 and 1949. The last defence-related alteration was made in the Second World War when a defence post was built within the top of the main tower.
In 1969 the castle opened as a museum operated by Dundee city council.
City Snapshot: Dundee in Summer
Summer in the City of Dundee is something really quite special. Cosmopolitan and pleasingly compact, when it comes to city breaks Dundee is wonderful place to visit at this time of year.
A UNESCO City of Design, discover a thriving creative community on the banks of the River Tay. Get your cultural fix at attractions like the Dundee Contemporary Arts, spend a day browsing in hip boutiques and independent stores before rounding off with a bite to eat. Whether it’s a slice of cake from Jessie’s Kitchen or an elegant lunch at Taypark House Café, the quality of Dundee’s local cuisine is positively divine.
Of course, there are plenty of things to do in Dundee other than eat, shop and local art. Delve into the city’s Dundee’s rich industrial past. Pay a visit to the thoroughly interesting Verdant Works where generations of Dundonians worked in the jute industry, and get your pic taken with the statute of Desperate Dan, the classic comic strip creation of DC Thomson, in the city centre. You can even spend an evening stargazing at Mills Observatory.
Explore the city’s abundance of green spaces, from Dundee Botanic Garden to Riverside Nature Park, the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or cycle. And don’t forget to venture a little further afield to seaside suburb of Broughty Ferry with its award-winning beach.
Splendidly situated, and brimming with plenty to see and do, one thing’s for certain – you’ll be glad you made the time for Dundee.

Magnetic Field Observatory | Is the reversal speeding up?
** Day number 4 of 30 day drive**
(FundRazr campaign here)
Once again, important space weather data has been 'nonchalantly' removed from the public and being dismissed as a glitch. It does not happen often enough to be a glitch and I feel very strongly this is related to something much bigger and I have decided to assemble a small but efficient space weather observatory to monitor this data for OURSELVES and if there is an 'anomaly' in our Magnetic Shields or our Ionosphere we will know about it.
OBJECTIVE: Construct a small space weather observatory that will monitor the earth's magnetic field and the earth's Ionosphere 24 hours a day. These instruments will be hand made and installed in a sanitary ( free of magnetic interference) environment by myself with the possibility of some out-sourcing of mill work (13,000 precise copper coil revolutions) ((solenoid)) and software configuration.
The magnetic field instrument will also have the ability to hear space objects passing near earth. Objects with a electromagnetic discharge will be 'heard' by this observatory via the Induction Magnetometer. (Example here at the link to a video I did myself using a magnetometer that is no longer available to the public, I did this in 2013. Link here..
This cannot be accomplished without the help of crowd funding and the people that have a sincere interest in this phenomenon. If you want to be a part of something that could be really interesting and a true educational adventure, please drop a few bucks at the link provided below. Or, maybe you could offer some expertise in the software configuration of the instruments, that would be awesome as well. I can build them and wire them, but, it is going to take funds to make the project a success...one we could all benefit from. PayPal link below...

Kind Regards,
Michael
