The Battle of Mill Springs
An excerpt from The Battle of Mill Springs, which sets the stage for the first-time visitor's experience of Mill Springs Battlefield. This 20-minute video is shown daily at the Visitor Center and Museum, in the Hal Rogers Community Room.
On January 19, 1862, the small town of Logan's Crossroads (now Nancy, Kentucky) erupted in a blast of artillery and musket fire, as Confederate and Union forces clashed in battle. When the smoke cleared, 150 Confederates and 50 Federal soldiers lay dead on the field and the Union had its first significant victory of the Civil War. Though first a sensation throughout newspapers in both the North and the South, the battle was quickly overshadowed by the horrors the war would bring.

Battle of Mill Springs
This is a historical film about Mill Springs Mill on the Cumberland River and its role during a Civil War engagement in early 1862. Mill Springs Mill was the site where Confederate forces camped and possibly served as headquarters leading up to the Battle of Mill Springs, which took place Jan. 19. Brig. Gen. Felix Zollicoffer commanded the Confederate defensive line and was killed in action during the battle. Mill Springs Mill was restored in 1976 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and is still operated in partnership with the Monticello Women's Club.

150th Battle of Mill Springs
In honor of the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Mill Springs, Kentucky. Sorry for the shakey video, it was freezing outside and my hands were frost bit bad. Also sorry for the toy gun and the annoying boys during a few of the videos. For such a cold day, it was pretty crowded. Well worth going to though!
Walk the Perryville Battlefield with Actor Steve Zahn: You Can Help Save a Critical Tract
Join the American Battlefield Trust along with Steve Zahn as we walk the very ground that can complete the Perryville Battlefield.
Today, we have a chance to do something truly rare, even in our line of work. We have the chance to substantially complete the preservation of one of the most important battlefields of the entire Civil War.
The 128 acres currently at stake at Perryville – scene of the bloodiest Civil War battle ever fought in Kentucky – represent the largest remaining unprotected part of the battlefield. If we and our partners succeed in saving this hallowed ground, it will mean that 90-95 percent of that battlefield is preserved forever!

[Wikipedia] Confederate Mass Grave Monument in Somerset
The Confederate Mass Grave Monument in Somerset in Pulaski County, Kentucky, near Nancy, Kentucky, honors the Confederate soldiers who are buried here who died at the Battle of Mill Springs. These soldiers were from Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee, and number over one hundred in total. The monument was built in 1910 by Bennett H. Young, who during the war rode with Confederate general John Hunt Morgan. Young was drawn to the area due to hearing about the nearby Zollie Tree, which was decorated by a local woman each Memorial Day in honor of general Felix K. Zollicoffer, who died at the Battle of Mill Springs. The monument uses the name Battle of Fishing Creek, as the battle was known by Southerners in 1910. The rectangular slab of limestone is 4 feet (1.2 m) by 3 feet (0.91 m), and rest on a 1 foot (0.30 m) high slab of concrete. The Zollie Tree, for which both the Confederate Mass Grave Monument and the nearby General Felix K. Zollicoffer Monument was constructed, was destroyed by lightning in 1995, although a sapling from it was later planted at the same spot. Both are now in what is called Zollicoffer Park, part of the larger Mill Springs Battlefield. On July 17, 1997, the Confederate Mass Grave Monument in Somerset was one of sixty-one different monuments related to the Civil War in Kentucky placed on the National Register of Historic Places, as part of the Civil War Monuments of Kentucky Multiple Property Submission. The aforementioned General Felix K. Zollicoffer Monument only a few feet away is another of the so-honored monuments. The other monument on the list in Pulaski County is the Battle of Dutton's Hill Monument north of Somerset, Kentucky.
