Visited Millstreet, County Cork, Ireland - where my family continues to live. We met with and enjoyed a number of cousins. Kevin Buckley of Millstreet and his lovely wife were gracious hosts! We also met Sean Radley, the Curator of the Millstreet Museum, Co. Cork. He gave us a nice overview of Millstreet and the museum. This is our interview after our visit.

M2M - Millstreet to Malawi
Transition Year Youth for Justice DVD for Mtakataka Secondary School, Malawi.
The idea for ‘M2M-Millstreet to Malawi’ arose from the clip contained on the Trócaire website relating to the Lenten Campaign 2014 (see links section below). The clip showed students from Mtakataka Secondary School, Malawi asking questions about life in Ireland. Students in Ireland were then invited to respond.
After showing the TY students the clip, they decided to respond to the questions posed and to ask some of their own. They felt there was an opportunity for opening a line of communication with the students in Malawi so that both groups could learn more about each other and life in each other’s countries. So the hope of the Millstreet students is that they would receive a response from the pupils in Malawi.
English teachers in our school helped the TY’s to revise their questions until they felt they were open ended enough and also rigorous enough to illicit answers beyond the more obvious ones about the weather!

A Sense of Place: A Portrait of Mark Messersmith
Tom Anderson and Barry Fraser have produced a film about environmental painter Mark Messersmith that follows his process of painting one of his 6' by 6' magic realist canvases, from the first stroke to the last, and including the construction of the sculptural enhancements of the painting. The supporting story line is framed in cutaways that explore Messersmith's education and life history, and his university teaching, as well as documenting one of his major exhibitions. While Mark paints, he talks about his purposes, techniques, strategies, and influences. This 43-minute film is intended primarily as a teaching resource that is particularly useful for focusing on environmental sustainability and creativity through art and education and may also serve as an example of visual/video-based ethnography.

There, participants took part in an 1812-themed festival at the riverfront featuring games, crafts, art, music, live performances, and period costumes for photo keepsakes. The day culminated with an outdoor concert by The Windsor Symphony Orchestra on the Festival Plaza stage.
