zagreb 06 2014 part5 Magical reflections, Mimara museum
Mimara Museum
We stayed a few nights in Zagreb, Croatia. Some call this city the City of Museums. We visited Mimare which is notorious for works that are thought to have been stolen by Mr. Mimare during WWII after the break up of the SS. It was in all honesty an okay museum. Some of the pieces and artifacts were great.

SOLO EXHIBIT AT MIMARA MUSEUM, ZAGREB CROATIA
Chilean, Miami based artist ISABEL BRINCK presents solo exhibit at MIMARA MUSEUM, ZAGREB CROATIA.
MAY 10 – MAY 20, 2019
MIMARA, mega Museum , Neo-Renaissance palace built in the late 19th century and situated in the architectural complex of Croatian capital Zagreb, welcomes a colorful contemporary eclectic twist , from the series ONEIRIC of the artist ISABEL BRINCK. The exhibit will open the 5th year of the cultural Chilean–Croatian week and is organized by the Chilean Embassy in Croatia and OS Foundation.
ISABEL BRINCK, a Chilean American mid career artist, based in Miami since 2003, has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Latin America and the United States which includes; the Instituto Cultural de Mexico in Miami, the Embassy of Chile in Washington and the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles, CA.
ISABEL BRINCK has been working on the series ONEIRIC (relating to dreams or dreaming) for the last 3 years.
11 large format, acrylic on canvas paintings were selected from this series to be displayed in this ancient city.
During the development of the ONEIRIC series , ISABEL BRINCK has been interested in the concept of automatic drawing , started by the Surrealists as a way to incorporate randomness and the subconscious into their drawings, and to free themselves from artistic conventions and everyday thinking.
In automatic drawing, the hand is allowed to move randomly across the paper, with no preconceived subject or composition in mind.
As a product, there is a drawing, produced by subconscious with the goal to discover something about the psyche and messages incorporated in dreams. a way to access meaning and information unavailable through tradition and the conscious mind.
After this process, drawings are rationally transferred to canvas bringing life and vibrancy, mainly through color.
ISABEL BRINCK produces a peculiar Neo-figuration, overflowing with a universe of characters , metaphors and analogies that takes us into a world loaded with spiritual meanings and great imagination, inspired on the subconscious through automatism.
The opening day is May 10, 2019

Zanimljive događaje i priče iz prošlosti Zagreba u emisiji Zagrebački vremeplov svakodnevno vam donosi kroničar Miroslav Šašić. Poslušajte i vi dugovječnu i omiljenu kratku formu Radio Sljemena, svako jutro u 10!
Brojni predmeti pokazuju iznimnu finoću izrade vrhunskih majstora i svjedoče o kulturnim potrebama u svakodnevnomu vjerskom i svjetovnom životu ljudi minulih epoha.
Zagreb, Croatia
Zagreb, Croatia - Motion, Pict. 2011
Zagreb, capital of the Republic of Croatia, is also its largest city and the cultural, economic, cinematic, sporting and governmental hub of the country. It is located on the southern slopes of Medvednica Mountain along the banks of the Sava River. Culturally, it is a European city well worth visiting, with its numerous historical monuments and medieval architecture. Its favourable geographic positioning in the Pannonian Basin gives the city instant access to Central Europe and the Adriatic coast. Maybe that's why, for many years, it has remained the economic gateway connecting Central and Western Europe via the Adriatic Sea.
When Croatia achieved independence in 1991, Zagreb was declared the capital and along with it came political and administrative responsibilities. Today, the city has maintained its medieval structure in the Gradec and Kaptol area, which are prime administrative regions of the city. On the other hand, the residential area is located on the southern slopes of the Medvednica Mountains. From the 1950's, when the city started developing technologically, the industries started concentrating their base on the south and south east of the Sava River.
Besides being a major commercial and economical centre, it is also developing into a famed tourist destination. The city attracts many tourists from Austria, Germany and Italy who come to visit the beaches and explore its historical monuments, museums, and art galleries. From a youngster's point of view, the city offers a happening nightlife, plenty of restaurants and cafés and lots of cinema theatres that screen Hollywood films.
Today, it is the only city in Croatia with a population of over one million. Yet, as the city advances into the new millennium, it has retained its old charisma and welcoming attitude towards foreign visitors.
Origin of the name Zagreb
The origin of the name Zagreb is linked with a lot oflegends and stories. But the name Zagreb seems to have been first found in 1134 in a document which proves the establishment of Zagreb bishopric around 1094. The Croatian word zagrabiti loosely translates to to dig and is the source for some of the stories. One theory says a Croat viceroy called for the digging of water to assemble his settlement around the water hole or grabathat later came to be known as Zagreb. According to another etymological theory, the Venetian dialectal name for Saint Gabriel, the protector of the medieval city, is Za Gabria.
