Janine Hunter, Nyikina/Bunuba woman from West Kimberley, Western Australia
Janine Hunter is a proud Nyikina/Bunuba woman from West Kimberley, in Western Australia. She is the youngest of three siblings and has two young boys of her own.
Janine's parents were passionate about education for their children so that they would grow up confident and successful in two worlds. Although Janine did not complete school -- leaving halfway through year 12 -- she was soon back on track, busy training and working to develop her career.
Janine is very fortunate. In good times and during life's challenges, she has strong family and community mentors around who care for her deeply, guide and advise her, and nurture her soul.
Janine's passion is community development, and she has become an experienced and highly qualified advocate. She is about to take the plunge and go into business for herself. Her community will gain a valuable asset when she does; Janine has the determination, skills and knowledge to advocate and represent them to ensure community policies and plans are respected and reflected in government initiatives.
