Awa Odori Dance is a Bon Dance that originated in Tokushima prefecture (old Awa countries), Shikoku region. It is a Japanese traditional performing arts with the history of about 400 years. The features of Awa Odori Dance are the woman’s dance and the man’s dance that are the extremes than anything. The woman’s dance makes formation and dances elegantly, with a bright “Yukata”, put on a “Amigasa” hat. On the other hand, the man’s dance dances freely and lively, with a “Uchiwa” paper fan or a “Chochin” lantern.
Minami-koshigaya Awa Dance Festival will be held on the weekend of late August every year. During this period, Awa dance contest is carried out here and there around Minami-koshigaya Station, it will attract about 700,000 spectators.

Awa Odori originally originated in Tokushima, Shikoku, and there are various theories about its origin. When Tokushima Castle was built, it is said that the people of the castle danced at the inauguration celebration.
Shunzo Nakauchi, an entrepreneur who was born in Tokushima Prefecture and headquartered in Koshigaya, advocated the Awa Odori in Minamikoshigaya. In 1983, Mr. Nakauchi, who had always thought about giving back to the local community as a business operator, wanted to revitalize the people of the local community and create a local culture culture that Koshigaya is proud of. We focused on holding the Awa Odori, which is a peculiar culture.
Mr. Nakauchi's call was for the support and efforts of various parties. First, the tremendous help of the local Minamikoshigaya Shop Association, Residents' Association, and Women's Association gained the understanding and cooperation of local people, leading to the approval of Koshigaya City and the police. And the full guidance of the event held by the members of the Awaodori Promotion Association in Tokushima, Japan has greatly advanced the realization. In addition, the operation became possible with the support of trading companies including Mr. Nakauchi's business association.
Thanks to the efforts of many of those involved, the first Minamikoshigaya Awa Odori gave a hot birth in 30,000 people on August 24, 1985, two years after the proposal. is. The joy of dancing and the joy of many people sympathized with each other, and the circle of festivals spread with each turn. Now, with a total of 10,000 collaborators, it has developed into a local festival called the Japan's Three Great Awa Odori along with authentic Tokushima and Tokyo Koenji, and is indispensable for summer Koshigaya. It became a feature poem.
