The Long Stone, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire
The holed standing stone near Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, UK filmed on 27 August 2013.
There is a recently erected barbed wire fence enclosing this beautiful megalith made from
oolitic limestone. In the nearby dry stone wall is another smaller stone that I also filmed. There is a belief that this is all that remains of a chambered long barrow (there is a small recumbent stone behind this stone that is in the film) though no evidence of a mound remains.
To see how the stone looked before the fence and to see more of my photos of megalithic sites go to my web-site at:
'Megaliths' published by Jonathan Cape featuring my photographs of over 70 sites in England and Wales and text by Lai Ngan Corio covering the history, legends and folklore of these beautiful sites is available here:
The stone was also called 'The Crick Stone' (the name of the nearby hamlet) and sickly babies were passed through the hole to cure them of rickets. There is also a legend of a battle between the Saxons and Danes taking place nearby. There is much more information in the book.

Wilderspin-Stroud Life (musical response to BBCs Country File)
A light-hearted, wry look at life in and around the rural Cotswold town of Stroud, Gloucestershire (UK), and some of the people who live and work there. This video was made by local folk/country/rock band Wilderspin, as a result of a report by the BBC's Country File program earlier this year, where they managed to find some slightly 'odd' examples of our local residents.
Originally this video was intended to be an attempt to prove Country File wrong.....but sadly, they seem to have hit the nail bang on the head. So yes, we're all a bit bonkers, but we're proud of it.
It's meant to be fun...please don't be offended if you find yourself somewhere in one of the video scenes.
For those that are interested in the music, there is also a studio video of the band, in the recording studio, creating the soundtrack. You can find it here on YouTube at
Be proud to live in Stroud! (even if, like us, you are a bit wacky)
