Hiking | Mine Hill Preserve | In Connecticut
Howdy Folks!
This was another great adventure in the state of Connecticut. This was our second time visiting this preserve (with slightly better camera equipment this time) so we decided to re-film because we liked it so much!

DJI Phantom 4 at Roxbury Falls, Roxbury Ct.
This scenic flight turned out to be a scary one when I lost contact with the bird for almost 5 entire, terror filled minutes.. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but I must have flown just a bit too low of an angle and lost controller function and video feed. I ran back up the hill off of the riverbank and finally was able to regain control. I edited a little more than 4 minutes off the end of this video.
Enjoy!

Arthur Miller on Connecticut's Character (1992)
I interviewed playright Arthur Miller at his Roxbury home in 1992 for my documentary Between Boston & New York. We talked right outside the studio shed where he wrote Death of a Salesman. Here's what he had to say about Connecticut character. The doc launched the Connecticut Experience series on CPTV, a co-production with the CT Humanities Council that explored Connecticut's heritage.

Old Connecticut Path: Chism School to Crystal Pond - Eastford, CT
The Chism brothers, Charles and David, provide a record of the route of the Old Connecticut Path across Ashford and Eastford. As young children in the 1860's-70's, they walked a mile from their home to school following the route of the Path. Late in their lives, Charles dictated a description of the route of the Old Connecticut Path that provided specific local landmarks. His older brother David drew a map of the route to go with his brother's description. Together, the map and description provide a guide for rediscovering the Path.
The journey of rediscovery begins at the site of the one room school house attended by the Chism brothers. The route crosses Eastford passing the landmarks described by Charles Chism to travel from Natchaug State Forest, across Yale Forest, the fording places of the Branch and Buel Brooks, and on to Crystal Pond at the border between Eastford and Woodstock. Using David Chism's map and the description written by Charles Chism, it is possible to experience portions of the Old Connecticut Path that have been long forgotten.
The Old Connecticut Path is one of the earliest trails followed as part of America's westward migration. As early as 1635-36, the migration from Massachusetts Bay at Boston/Cambridge west to Connecticut began following the Old Connecticut Path. Reverend John Wareham lead his congregation from Dorchester, MA to establish Windsor, CT in 1635. John Oldham traveled the Path that others followed from Watertown, MA to establish Wethersfield, CT. Reverend Thomas Hooker and his entire congregation walked along the Old Connecticut Path for two weeks across the wilderness in 1636 from Cambridge, MA to establish Hartford, CT. Join me for a walk and use your imagination to experience the landscape traveled by the pioneers of the 1600s.
