Loy Yang Power Station Victoria Gippsland Electricity for Victoria Coal mines
Coal burning power station situated at Loy Yang, 8km from Traralgon Victoria, Central Gippsland. You can see this one as you drive into Traralgon from Melbourne. The cooling towers show steam at the top but the slimmer towers have sulfur and god knows what other products coming out of the top, you can smell it if you're up close. I'm glad I don't eat the meat from the surrounding cattle up there. Mercury comes from the burning of coal when the elements from these smoke stacks dissolve in the sea and sink to the depth where Tuna swim. Now you know.

Coal Dust storm Loy Yang Traralgon 08 December 15
Loy Yang is an open cut coal mine, a storm was brewing overhead and i went out to look only to see dirt blowing up from the open-cut mine. You can see it clearly in this video after a few seconds of the video starting. The storm came over but only lasted about 10-15 mins and suddenly the temperature dropped from over 30 to mid-20s i think.

Flooding problems and more at Yallourn
In an expansion of the mine, TruEnergy had diverted the Morwell River via an embankment and locating four conveyor belt supply tunnels underneath. On Tuesday June 5 in 2012 heavy rainfall in the Gippsland region resulted in water from the adjoining Morwell River flooding into a tunnel housing a conveyor belt. The Latrobe Valley Express reported that an exclusion zone was created around the leak site and that after initial inspections and ongoing monitoring of river and leakage levels, restricted mine operations resumed this afternoon.
Two weeks after the collapse, EnergyAustralia was still struggling to bring the crisis under control. The company stated that while it had reinstated one of the conveyor systems, further rain had resulted in the need to shut it down once more. As a result it had scaled power generation back from two units to one and resorted to trucking coal to keep the power station running. Plans to install a pumping and pipeline system to divert the Morwell River flows into the diversion channel will not be completed until end of July, the company stated. The company also gained approval from the Environmental Protection Authority Victoria to pump untreated water out of the pit into the Latrobe River
