Wild - Art Textiles Made in Britain exhibition | Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes
Wild is a touring exhibition featuring work by members of the textile art group Art Textiles Made in Britain, plus guests. It is on display in the main gallery at the Minerva Arts Centre in Llanidloes.
Each member of the group has focused on a different element of the natural world to inspire their artwork, be that close-ups of wild flowers, leaves, and insects, or overarching views of trees and rural landscapes. There are also people!
The group's aim is: to promote British art textiles and to ensure their future; to introduce them to new audiences and to continually stretch the boundaries with new, vibrant work.
In Gallery 2 at the Minerva Arts Centre is a smaller exhibition called The Language of Flowers featuring further work by group members Hilary Beattie and Jenny Rolfe.

Silver Threads exhibition | Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes
Another milestone in the history of the Minerva Arts Centre for summer 2019 with a special exhibition - Silver Threads. The exhibition celebrates The Quilt Association's 25 years of exhibiting quilts in Llanidloes, Mid Wales.
On display are quilts from the Quilt Association's Heritage Quilt Collection alongside a contemporary show from textile art group Tangent Textiles.
This free exhibition is open daily (except Sundays) 10.30am - 4.30pm until Saturday 7 September 2019.
The title of the track - Never Letting Go - is particularly poignant for me. After 12 years as a trustee (and 2 years prior to that as Minutes Secretary) with the organisation I stepped down last year, although I am still doing a small amount of volunteering. Turns out it's not possible to let go - the QA / Minerva community means far too much to me!

Christmas Craft Fair | Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes
The ever-popular Christmas Craft Fair comes to the Minerva Arts Centre in Llanidloes, Mid Wales again for Christmas 2018!
Established over 16 years ago, the annual Christmas Craft Fair takes place until Monday 24 December, opening from 10am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday. It closes at 1.30pm on Christmas Eve.
Around 40 craftspeople are selling their wares, all of whom are Mid Wales based, primarily from Llanidloes and the surrounding areas. The Christmas Craft Fair provides an outlet for local craftspeople to sell a variety of high quality goods at very affordable prices.
The Christmas Craft Fair is staffed by the craftspeople themselves on a rota basis, which gives visitors an opportunity to meet the producers, sometimes see them demonstrating their art, and to discuss personalised or specially commissioned pieces.
Three of the Knights of Sir Dancelot, a local Llanidloes ceilidh band, entertained visitors with traditional Christmas carols and tunes on Saturday 17 November. Graham Brand played anglo concertina, Peter Timmins played fiddle, and Cornelius Eger played guitar.

DIS/rupt exhibition | Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes
This amazing contemporary exhibition from the Textile Study Group in Spring 2018 is in the two large galleries of the Minerva Arts Centre in Llanidloes - home of the quilt charity The Quilt Association.
The exhibition is curated by Dr Melanie Miller:
The group explores several main themes, including global conflict, with the concomitant problems of migration and the refugee crisis; climate change and ecological disruption; conflict within domestic relationships; and disruption within traditional fabric making processes. Members will produce individual responses to their selected theme through the influence of stitched textiles, but not exclusively with fabric and thread.

Llanidloes | Destination. Community. Home.
Llanidloes, a small market town in Powys, Mid Wales, is our favourite place to live. It is the first town on the River Severn, and often referred to as “a small town at the heart of Wales.”
As a destination Llanidloes offers visitors and locals alike the opportunity to dip into a rich history, to explore some beautiful surrounding countryside, and to join in a vibrant social and cultural life.
As a community Llanidloes thrives, a combination of fiercely loyal locals and incomers, most of whom will fight to the bitter end for what they believe is right for their beloved town.
And as our home - which Llanidloes has been now for almost 30 years and counting - it provides the permanent backdrop for all the highs and lows of life’s many adventures.
As the Llanidloes town website says on its home page: “be warned, the place is dangerously addictive! You may never want to leave!”
The video footage was filmed between October 2018 - February 2019. As well as the town of Llanidloes itself it features the Llyn Clywedog reservoir, Hafren Forest, and the hills above the River Severn near Llandinam - all just a short distance from Llanidloes.

Art and antiques trade shows 2019 in USA
Art and antiques trade shows in USA 2019-2020
The UK Expo is home to the second largest art and antiques market in the world: a 26% share of the global and 50% share of the European markets.
The main outlets for these products are: auctions, galleries, specialist fairs, shops, warehouses, department stores and, more recently, the Internet. There is also a considerable ancillary industry that supports the art and antiques market.
There is concern among many industry professionals and observers that European import tax harmonisation will have an adverse impact on the UK’s art market, which may, in response, relocate in part to either Switzerland or the United States. Art and Antiques includes paintings, sculpture, works on paper, other fine art, furniture, other discrete disciplines and collectibles.

[Craft Trend Fair Korea] Sarah Myerscough, Director of Sarah Myerscough Gallery, London
Sarah Myerscough Gallery
sarahmyerscough.com
Sarah Myerscough Gallery was established in 1999 in Mayfair as an exhibition space for both emerging and established, principally British, artists who explored formal processes within their medium and showed exceptional technical ability in contemporary art. The gallery continues to show and promote fine artists, with the core group of these now exhibiting in international museum shows. Alongside this programme, it has developed a strong interest in craft and design. It is now working with internationally renowned designers who are placed in major museum collections and exhibitions. The gallery promotes its artists and designers on an international level at fairs in London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Toronto and Dubai.
Today, the gallery reiterates its original commitment to encourage innovation and aesthetic vitality, as well as distinguished technical skill and quality of practice. Through this commitment, the ethos is now centred on breaking down the barriers between fine art, crafts, design and architecture.
By amalgamating the different elements of its development, the gallery seeks to create a dialogue between different disciplines to explore the unrestricted possibilities within the visual arts, thereby pushing the gallery forward into this very current discourse within the art world.

Korea Craft Trend Fair 2014, COEX, Seoul, Korea.
The Craft Trend Fair will introduce the beauty of Korean crafts under the theme “Extraordinary.” Showcasing a range of work that crosses the bounds between up-and-coming and established artists and between traditional and modern styles, this year’s exhibition presents works focusing on daily life resources such as home decoration materials, home appliances, office equipments, and furniture.
The four-day craft exhibition, running from December 18 to 21, is organized by Korea Craft & Design Foundation (KCDF) and hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The annual event that started in 2006 leads the trend of crafts and receives a great deal of attention and support from craft lovers.
The Craft Trend Fair is a large exhibition attended by around 600 crafters and more than 30,000 visitors annually. The Creation Exhibition, which is the essential routine for artists to take part in, has selected 100 individuals and 20 groups through strictly anonymous screenings. The Industry Exhibition invited 112 teams including brand corporations, relevant associations, universities offering crafts programs, and NGOs.
Melinda Heal Dyeing the Liminal exhibition March 2019
Textile artist Melinda Heal brings a contemporary Australian approach to traditional Japanese dyeing techniques to create a remarkable exhibition currently on show at Newcastle’s Timeless Textiles Gallery.
Heal’s work takes a contemporary approach to the traditional Japanese resist-dyeing techniques of katazome and yuzen. These methods are steeped in Japanese culture, with their history tied to the kimono industry.
“I am applying them to uniquely Australian scenery, flora and fauna,” Heal explains. “My pieces depart from tradition, utilising semi-transparent fabrics to create a sense of depth, space and movement.”
The resulting works, in the Dyeing the Liminal exhibition, inhabit a space between two visual cultures. Complex edges, overlaps and intentional empty spaces depict the liminality of the natural world.

Llanidloes Food Festival (2019)
This year's Llanidloes Food Festival took place on Saturday 11 May during National Vegetarian Week. The festival is the start of a week-long programme of events in Llanidloes celebrating plant based food.
Once again we really enjoyed the friendly, fun atmosphere of this small festival focusing on local producers. There were plenty of opportunities to taste the yummy foods and drinks on offer in between watching cookery demos, listening to talks or catching up with friends.
