A visit to Havre-St-Pierre gave the Canada C3 team the opportunity to travel to Île Quarry and Île Niapisakau, two islands in the Mingan Archipelago that are known for their impressive and significant monoliths, massive rock formations that have been formed due to erosion. Our Parks Canada interpreters were kind enough to teach us the importance of these monoliths, and take us around the islands. Take a look!
Un arrêt à Havre-St-Pierre a permis à l’équipe de Canada C3 de visiter l’Île Quarry et l’Île Niapisakau, deux îles qui se trouvent dans l’archipel de Mingan qui sont connues grâce à leurs monoliths impressionnants, des formations rocheuses qui ont été formées en raison d’érosion. Nos interprètes de Parcs Canada nous ont appris l’importance de ces monolithe et nous ont donné une visite guidée de l’île. Visionnez notre visite ci-dessous !

Les paysages de l'Archipel-de-Mingan ont, depuis longtemps charmés l'imaginaire. Et c’est tellement agréable de pouvoir flaner comme ca sur les plages rocailleuses, se promener au son des vagues et des sifflements des oiseaux, et contempler ces géant rocheux, ces monolithes spectaculaires, qui exhibent fièrement leur silhouette de calcaire. Un vrai spectacle!

Baleine franche aux Iles de Mingan - Right Whale in Mingan Archipelago
FR : Les chercheurs du MICS observent un grand nombre de baleines franches cette saison. Il s’agit d’une espèce qui est en voie d’extinction et les experts estiment qu’il reste environ 500 individus dans l’Atlantique du Nord. Voici une de nos rencontres avec une baleine franche.

Meeting In Mingan
I never suspected that I would come face-to-face with Canada's aboriginal people, but that's just what happened on the day I visited tiny Havre-Saint-Pierre. On a tour offered to cruise passengers, I visited the Innu people, and it turned out to be one of the most interesting tours of my life.
Not to be confused with the Inuits, this sub-Arctic tribe still has its own language and honors its ancient customs just a few miles down the road from the village of Havre-Saint-Pierre. Like cruise passengers visiting the Innu, I learned how the Innu lived and worshiped — and how they live today.
It's easy to see why the Innu came here. The Mingan Archipelago is a mystical place. I didn't get to see as much as I would have liked, but I did set out on a boat on a day when the ocean was not so calm to see the odd rock formations known as flower pots. The mysterious monoliths represent only a small part of the natural beauty here in this chain of islands and islets.
