FARO DE CAPDEPERA - CAPDEPERA LIGHTHOUSE at Mallorca Spain.
This lighthouse with a singular name is located on a promontory looking out to Menorca. It was immortalised in one of the Catalan singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat’s most famous songs.

Light pattern
Group of 2+3 flashes every 20 seconds.
Daytime appearance
White tower with red roof. Height 18 m.
Was designed by Emili Pou. The first light used a fixed optic surrounded by 6 rotating red lenses emitting a pattern of white light with red flashes every two minutes. It used an oil burning lamp for 3rd order lighthouses.
In 1899 due to structural problems caused by damp, the roof terrace was replaced by a gabled, tiled roof. It was opened on November 30, 1861.
In 1912 a 55mm incandescent petrol vapour Chance lamp was installed with the optic and light pattern remaining unchanged. A double wick Chance lamp was used as back-up.
In 1924 the original optic was replaced by fixed catadioptric optic in a mercury flotation bath and surrounded by five rotating lenses emitting a light pattern consisting of a fixed light alternating with groups of 3+2 white flashes. The old optic is now on display at Portopí.
In 1969 the lighting system was converted to run on electricity. The non-rotating part of the optic was kept but the rotating external lenses attached to the rotary mechanism were removed. Flashes were now produced by an electric flashing device.
A horizon lens was installed in 1971. The fierce winds that lash this part of the coast were the cause of many occasions when the lighthouse keepers saved victims of shipwrecks. In 1869 they were decorated with the Spanish Government’s Cruz de Beneficencia after a wild storm caused havoc in the area.

At first time Artà was first mentioned in 1232. The origin of the name is derived from Gertan, the Arab word for garden. An outbreak of bubonic plague in 1820 caused a setback resulting in 1200 deaths. Artà is nestled in a large valley, at the foot of a small mountain. High on a hill overlooking the village is the Sanctuary of Sant Salvador d'Arta, built in the 14th century, surrounded by defensive walls. The walls were added in the 16th century to defend against pirate attacks.

Alaró is a small municipality in the district of Raiguer on Majorca, one of the Balearic Islands, Spain. Alaró is bounded by Buñola, Escorca, Lloseta, Mancor de la Vall, Binissalem, Consell and Santa María del Camí.
Alaro origin dates back to the Islamic period. The documented history begins in the thirteenth century, during the reconquest of Mallorca, with its Castillo de Alaro being the center of this. The Castillo de Alaro was built by Christian inhabitants to ward off invasions from pirates.
Alaro was the first to have an urban electricity network on the island, this event happened August 15, 1901. Currently, electric distribution is unified with the rest of the island, but as a sign of how important Alaro was for the island of Mallorca, on May 8, 2000, the Consell Insular de Mallorca marked the tower of the old factory as a monument of cultural interest.
Alaro Castle is probably one of the most classic excursions in Majorca. Most arrive to the castle by foot from the village or by parking at the very traditional Es Verger restaurant, known for its lamb dishes. The last part of the road starts in Es Verger or Es Pouet and reaches the gateway of the castle; it is an old bridle path used by donkeys to carry loads up to the castle. Walking under the shade of the evergreen oaks along an old stone path, one approaches the majestic rock crowning the mountain. Es Vergeris is a well-known lamb restaurant between the village of Alaro and Alaro Castle. Alaro holds its market day on Saturday mornings on the main Plaza and is a very popular attraction. Alaro is also an important stop on the bike route in and around the Tramuntana mountain range.
One of the most important economic activities in Alaró for years was the shoe industry. Alaró municipality once had up to 30 factories and more than 2000 people dedicated to this activity. Today, that industry has been reduced to a minimum, with only one major company in that sector. There were also important lignite mines, now closed, relevant to the activities of electricity generation and distribution. For some time they belonged to the electric company GESA (now part of the Endesa group). Today, the town of Alaro, like many others on the island has become commuter town, with most of its inhabitants working in the capital of the island (Palma de Mallorca).
The municipality's most characteristic image is that of the twin peaks, Castell and s Álcadena, which inspired numerous legends about kings and witches. This panorama is a landmark when entering the village from Consell. However it is also possible to reach Alaro by taking the secondary Ragieur road, the Santa Maria road or by way of Lloseta where there is another kind of scenery to enjoy, perhaps not so spectacular but certainly picturesque.
There are many country estates along these secondary roads, evidence of the rural economy that existed until the advent of tourism: Son Antelm and Son Fiol, on the Santa Maria road, Sa Teulera, on the Coanegegre-Alaro road, Son Penyaflor and Son Curt on the Castell road. Son Palou was an important family of the area. Manor Son Palou was their country estate. Son Forteza, Son Guitart and Son Grau are on the way to Lloseta.

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, the others being Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Like the other Balearic Islands of Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, the island is an extremely popular holiday destination, particularly for tourists from Germany and the United Kingdom.
Mallorca (3640 sq.km) is known as an easy-to-reach mecca for friends of sunny beaches, amazing landscapes, wonderful mountains and affordable mediterranean food. With a coastline of more than 550km. In high season the island receives about 8 million tourists from around the world. This is both a blessing and a curse for the inhabitants, and they are well prepared for it and provide a very well-organized tourist infrastructure.
Nevertheless, Mallorca can show even other faces when you leave the coastline and take a look at the inner country. Prices fall with each kilometer you move away from the coast, and reach the usual Spanish standards in the center of the island or even some parts of the mountain area. Geographically the island can be divided into three parts. The mountain chain of Serra de Tramuntana extend from south-west to north-east, while the hills of Serra de Llevant stretches along the eastern coast. Between them lies the central plain (Es pla).

Esporles - small village between Banyalbufar and Valldemossa and just 12 Km from Palma de Mallorca. At the feet of the Tramuntana mountains, its San Pedro festivities are its important day (in August).
Fornalutx - one of the most attractive villages on the west coast, good starting point for hikers.
Inca - the second largest city, renown for its leather factories.
Manacor - the third largest city, famous for its furniture shops and pearl factories. There is also a large shop on the outskirts of the town that specialises in products made from the wood of the Olive tree.
Pollença - charming little city in the north-east, and home to a good Sunday market.
Puerto Pollensa - beach resort in the north of the island, popular with families
Sa Pobla - small, rural municipality in the district of Raiguer on Majorca. Hosts fantastic Jazz Festival.
Sineu - the geographical heart of the island, a small village best visited on Wednesdays, the weekly market is enormous.
Sóller - pretty town set in fantastic mountainous scenery.
Valldemossa - the charming village in the Tramuntana mountains is a must see, Chopin spent here a winter with George Sand.
