Well I think that there are basically two reasons the first one was that the head of the Bank of Italy, the governor of the Bank of Italy, Mr (Antonio) Fazio, is still in his place and (Italian Economy Minister Domenico) Siniscalco felt that he should go to safeguard the credibility of the Italian financial system and that was not happening and so he was very upset about that. The straw that broke the camel's back happened yesterday as the parties of the coalition were haggling over the budget law, that has to be put into place. And I think at that point he got really fed up with his own government and with his own majority and announced very late last night that he was leaving the government.

15. SOUNDBITE (English) Andrea di Robilant, political analyst, La Stampa:
It is a very difficult situation, as you know elections were to be held next spring, so now the question is should the elections be called earlier, as early as November. Certainly the opposition feels that at this point this is the only thing that can be done, because the idea of the country simply moving along into next spring in this very divided situation is certainly not the best recipe for the country.

STORYLINE
Italy's Economy Minister Domenico Siniscalco has resigned, a ministry official said on Thursday.
Italian news reports said Siniscalco had resigned after his efforts to oust the Bank of Italy governor Antonio Fazio failed.
Siniscalco stepped down on Wednesday night, according to an official at the Italian Economy Ministry.
The move deals a blow to Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi's government less than a year away from general elections.
The move rocked the political and business world.
Berlusconi was expected to meet with leaders from his governing coalition later in the day, while the centre-left opposition urged the whole government to resign and call early elections.
According to Italian daily La Republica, Siniscalco contended the government was immobile in the scandal surrounding Antonio Fazio, who has been accused of discriminating against a Dutch bank in a takeover battle.
Siniscalco had repeatedly urged Fazio to step down, but the governor has resisted.
Andrea di Robilant, political analyst at La Stampa newspaper, said on Wednesday's budget law debate was the straw that broke the camel's bank.
I think a that point he got really fed up with his own government and with his own majority and announced very late last night that he was leaving the government, he said.
The accusations against Fazio centre on his handling of a struggle between Banca Italiana Popolare Scarl and Dutch rival ABN Amro Holding NV for control of Banca Antonveneta SpA.
Wiretapped conversations published in the Italian press suggested Fazio favoured the Italian bank's bid.
Fazio denies wrongdoing.
The Bank of Italy governor is appointed for life, and the government cannot force him out.

ITALY: POPULIST LEADER UMBERTO ROSSI DEMANDS SEPARATE REPUBLIC
Italian/Nat
Italy's populist leader Umberto Bossi has reiterated his demand for a separate republic in the north at the start of three days of events across the region.
Bossi has set Sunday as the day for a declaration of independence for Padania, as he calls the would-be republic.
Friday he set off for the source of the Po River, which runs through the heartland of the Northern League.
Scores of Northern League supporters drove up towards the source of the River Po at Monviso. Each vehicle was stopped by a Green shirt check-point. Only supporters of the league or those with accreditation could pass.
Northern League leader Umberto Bossi has been accused of having links with the far right, and practices like these lend fuel to such accusations.
The Northern League considers the River Po, the longest river in Italy, to be its spiritual source and Bossi has called a three-day series of events, culminating in a rally in Venice on Sunday.
In last April's elections the Northern League took ten per cent of the vote nationally. However in the north, the vote was as high as one third, with some areas polling 40 per cent.
But despite Bossi's appeals for secession, not all his supporters want it.
SOUNDBITE: ( Italian)
Secession no. Liberty yes. We just demand control of our own money
SUPER CAPTION: Livio Sea
SOUNDBITE:( Italian)
Yes this day is very important for us. It's sacred. It's a sacred day for us.
SUPER CAPTION: Antonio Bordo.
Bossi came here to the source of the Po to fill a bottle of Murano glass with water and bring it to Venice.
This old man would be the first of a human chain.
Most polls show that few northern Italians want outright secession. But Bossi draws support from strong resentment against the central government in Rome over high taxes, excessive bureaucracy and corruption.
The northern regions have a population of 20 (m) million people out of a total population of 57 (m) million, but it is also responsible for half the country's gross national product.
Many in the north think they have to carry the impoverished south.
Bossi has urged tax revolts and called for a ban on southerners in certain public jobs such as teaching, the police and the judiciary.
Critics have branded him a racist.
The Northern League had a brief taste of government in 1994 as part of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's coalition.

The Miraculous Tale of Titian’s Lost Masterpiece
Discover the astonishing story of a lost Titian masterpiece. Started in the mid-16th century, ‘Portrait of a Lady and her Daughter’ was unfinished when Titian died in 1576. According to several art historians, it may have been overpainted by one of his pupils because the original work was a portrait of Titian’s mistress and illicit daughter.
After remaining in Venice until 1850, where it would likely have been seen by Rubens and Van Dyck, the painting was acquired by Tsar Nicolas I of Russia. In 1920, it was acquired by Parisian art dealer René Gimpel, who sent his collection to safety in London when WW2 broke out and he joined the French Resistance. Gimpel’s son tracked his father’s collection down to a garage in Bayswater in 1946. Several adjacent buildings had been completely destroyed by bombs in the Blitz but, miraculously, Gimpel’s paintings survived. The Titian was subsequently acquired by Alec Cobbe as ‘Tobias and the Angel’ in the 1980s. Cobbe started the restoration of the painting in consultation with art historians and scientists in 1983. The process lasted about 20 years before the magnificent result was fully revealed.
Now, this unfinished window into the mind of a master will return to its home in Venice after almost 500 years. On loan from current owner and renowned collector Marnix Neerman, the Titian masterpiece will be a highlight of a new exhibition opening in September 2019. From 5 September 2019 until 1 March 2020, the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE), in conjunction with the Rubenshuis in Antwerp, presents From Titian to Rubens – Masterpieces from Flemish Collections at Palazzo Ducale, Venice. The magnificent Doge’s private apartments will be transformed into veritable constkamers, rooms filled with around 80 paintings, drawings, engravings and examples of Venetian and Antwerp glass and instruments, on loan from the Antwerp City Museums, the KMSKA, MUVE, and the museums of Ghent, Bruges, Leuven and the MNHA Luxembourg. The exhibition will also present several important paintings and oil sketches by Rubens, and the moving Lamentation over the Dead Christ by Van Dyck. Sotheby's is a proud sponsor of this exhibition.

Press text:
The Official Portuguese Representation at the 58th Venice Biennale presents Leonor Antunes: a seam, a surface, a hinge or a knot, at the Palazzo Giustinian Lolin, curated by João Ribas.
Engaging with histories of art, architecture, and design, Leonor Antunes’ work reflects on the functions of everyday objects and their potential to be translated into abstract sculptures. The exhibition’s point of departure is Antunes’ significant research into key figures in the cultural history of Venice, such as the architects and designers Carlo Scarpa, Franco Albini and Franca Helg, as well as the legacies of the patronage of Savina Masieri and architecture of Egle Trincanato, who were both active in the city in the post-war period.
Working with traditional makers from the region, Antunes will link these cultural histories by looking at the intersection between Scarpa’s work and various forms of craftmanship from Italy, Japan and Portugal, with materials including glass, wood and cork. The exhibition will also draw attention to the lesser-known contributions of Masieri, such as her commissions for Frank Lloyd Wright and Scarpa, and Trincanato, who was not only the first female graduate of the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, and author of a pioneering study of popular Venetian architecture from the XIII to the XVIII century, but also director of Palazzo Ducale and president of Querini Stampalia. a seam, a surface, a hinge or a knot will explore how both these women played a pivotal role in shaping a conception of Venice as a “modern” city.
The Portugal Pavilion was commissioned by the Government of Portugal – Ministry of Culture – Directorate-General for the Arts.

Beautiful Italy Monteriggioni Siena Chiantishire Music by Bach
C Major Prelude from Audiolibrary Youtube, free to use.
Chiantishire is an informal nickname given to an area of Tuscany, Italy, where many upper class British citizens have moved or usually spend their holidays. The word is a late 20th century neologism and derives from Chianti, a red wine produced in central Tuscany, in particular in the provinces of Siena and Florence. The location rose to prominence in the UK in the mid 1990s when then Prime Minister Tony Blair chose it as one of his preferred summer retreats. Celebrities that have owned properties in the area include Sting, Bryan Ferry, Antonio Banderas and Richard Gere.
Monteriggioni is a comune in the province of Siena in the Italian region of Tuscany. It borders on the communes of Casole d'Elsa, Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Colle di Val d'Elsa, Poggibonsi, Siena and Sovicille. The town is architecturally and culturally significant; it hosts several piazzas, and is referenced in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.
