Canadian Rocky Mountains
Banff Johnston Canyon - as Johnston Creek approaches the Bow River, it flows through a large canyon formed by erosion over thousands of years. The creek has cut through the limestone rock to form sheer canyon walls, as well as waterfalls, tunnels, and pools.
A popular hiking trail follows the canyon and leads to a meadow within the Johnston Valley above the canyon. The first part of the trail consists of a constructed walkway with safety rails and bridges, while the last part of the trail is natural and more rugged. Within the meadow are the Ink Pots, which are six blue-green spring-fed pools. The Ink Pots themselves are mineral springs that differ in colour because each pool fills at a different rate. According to a sign The Milky-Green Pools Fill More Slowly And Have A Heavier Suspension Of Fine Materials Than The Clear, Deep-Blue Pools
Johnston Canyon is one of the most popular destinations in Banff National Park, and for good reason; it is a place of dramatic natural beauty accessible to most. It is particularly popular during the summer and at certain times of the winter. If you seek a more peaceful experience, try visiting Johnston Canyon during the spring and fall, or make the most of the long summer days by going in the early morning or mid evening.

Johnston Canyon Banff Hike - Winter Wonderland (2018) | Backcountry Forward
See Johnston Canyon as a winter wonderland! Banff National Park's most popular hike is whimsical after a fresh snowfall, see for yourself.
We went out to hike Johnston Canyon on New Year's day. The morning started at -30c just after a fresh snowfall two days earlier. The hike to the first falls lookout was magical as we walked along the elevated boardwalk. In winter time, snow spikes/crampons are a must! We journeyed beyond the first falls up to the second to catch a glimpse of some ice climbers catching an early morning ascent up the frozen canyon wall. Simply stunning, see for yourself!

Ink Pots are a group of seven crystal-clear, jade-green and very beautiful spring-fed pools of water located in a meadow above Johnston Creek past the Upper and Lower Falls in Johnston Canyon. The source of the warm water feeding the pristine jade pools is unknown.

Day hike #27 Sundance Canyon winter hike in Banff National Park
Sundance Canyon winter hike out of Banff townsite. Timestamps:

16:34 Sundance Canyon
21:18 Forested portion of the loop

27:43 Marsh Loop
Nice way to finish my 4 day trip in Banff with a fairly chill hike down an old road to the canyon. I checked out the walking trails below Cave and Basin Museum first. Interesting micro climates created by the sulphuric water. Then took a side path out to the intersection which turned out to be a horse trail for the outfitters there. Then did Marsh loop to finish it all off. Not a bad exploratory day, and it started by coming across a huge herd of Elk!
I had some fun with this video because it's my first one on my new MacBook and with iMovie. I ended up having some fun with credits. :)
This hike is described in the Canadian Rockies Trail Guide. Page 28. Trail 11. Except for the horse trail. I just found that on my maps.me app and checked it out.
