Exploring Minoo Park, a quasi-national park in Japan just half an hour from Osaka. Beautiful, natural Japan - a complete contrast to the city!
Minoo Park (Mino / Minoh Park) is a country park less than 30 minutes from Osaka by train. A perfect day trip and a place to spend a relaxing few hours walking in the countryside. There's a fairly easy trail alongside a river, with shrines, temples, and cafes with Japanese street food and it ends at Mino Falls, a stunning 33m waterfall. The area's famous for maple leaves, which are stunning in the autumn colours. I tried momiji tempura, a local speciality: fried maple leaves!

Autumn at Mino Koen (Mino Park), Japan
Mino Park is one of the best places in Osaka Prefecture to see autumn colours. Located in Mino City, you can easily access the park via Mino Station on the Hankyu Line from Umeda in central Osaka.
The trail up to the majestic Mino Waterfall is scenic and you can marvel at the lush greenery along the way. A crystal clear stream runs along the entire trail - the sound of running water and birds chirpping makes it a peaceful hike up to the waterfall. Along the way, there are also several grand temples and an insectarium as well.
Be sure to taste the seasonal momiji tempura - deep-fried maple leaves; they are delicious! Shops along the trail sell them and you can buy them in packets for eating or in beautiful gift-boxes for friends and family.
Directions to Mino Koen: Take the Hankyu Takarazuka Line from Hankyu Umeda Station to Ishibashi Station, then transfer to the Mino Line to Mino Station. From Mino Station, just walk uphill to Mino Koen.

Best Autumn Leaf Spots In Osaka - Minoh Park (Minō/Minoo) and Kyuanji Temple
The best places to see autumn leaves in Osaka are at Minoh (aka Minō or Minoo) Park and Kyuanji Temple in Ikeda. You also have the added benefit of the famous Minoh Waterfall as a backdrop against the picturesque Japanese maple leaves. Both of these places make a great day-trip from Osaka city.

Minoo Koen is located in northern Osaka. Whether you arrive by car or train, you'll need to hike from Minoo's town center. It's about 3 kilometers to the main waterfall. (It's not a difficult hike, but you should wear comfortable shoes!)
There are also several side trails, some of which are very steep, but you can (apparently) see wild monkeys on them. The park is free, and there are many food stalls along the path in case you don't feel like packing a lunch.

The beauty of Osaka extends beyond the city center and this is what we hope to show you in this video. We visited Minoo Park and Katsuoji on 14 Nov 2018 and the colours were already close to peaking. ☆Bits of knowledge〜Minoo Fall〜
Minoh Falls (sometimes spelled as Mino or Minoo) is a main natural attraction within the mountains of Minoh Park which is open to the public free of charge. It is 33 meters high with a 5 meter width and falls right before your eyes. Dating back a 1300 years in the Asuka Era (592~710), it was written in historical documents that En-No-Gyouja performed meditation under the Falls.
The Minoh Park is one of Japan’s oldest National Parks located in Minoh city which is north of Osaka city. You could reach there in 30 minutes by using a train from Umeda in central Osaka. The park houses 980 different plant habitations of lush green forest, 3000 insect species with an insect museum all along a picturesque hiking path.
The hiking path to Minoh Waterfall starts with a short walk North of Minoh Station. It takes about 45 minutes or approxiamately 3 km to walk up along the Minoh river until you reach the Minoh Falls.
The first part of the walk begins by passing through many shops selling Momiji tempura which are fried Japanese maple leaf sweets original to this place. Along the way you will pass by Ryuanji Temple with it’s pretty red bridge.
The walk up to Minoh Falls are worth a visit any time of year, surrounded with its refreshing green forest, and one of the best seasons is in late Autumn when you can see the beautiful Japanese red maples.

Exploring Minoh Waterfall & Katsuō-ji Temple in Northern Osaka | Mino Park | Japan | Mr Agathon
A short detour to Minoh Falls while we were heading to Katsuō-ji Temple in Osaka.
We were invited by our good friend Ryubun Kojima, 2019 President of JCI Osaka and the newly Elected 2020 JCI World Executive Vice President.
Minoh Waterfall isn't a big waterfall but still beautiful. The hike is also very light, ideal for families & elderly. Surprisingly we met with a fellow JCI member who is a store owner in Mino Park. What a coincidence as one of his staff recognised my shirt with JCI logo on it.
It is great to be a jaycee, you have friends everywhere.
Then we head out to our main destination which is Katsuō-ji Temple. Upon arriving the Temple, through the scenic route, we were greeted warmly by the head monk ( Ryubun san). We were astonished at how beautiful the temple is, surrounded by mountains, trees and water. We were told that in autumn, the temple is one of the most visited place in Osaka due to its beautiful autumn colours. I cannot imagine how beautiful it is in autumn as it is already amazing in summer.
We had the opportunity to put our goals & prayers on the Daruma Dolls, had a brief history of the temple as well as why Katsuō-ji is one of the most respected temples in whole of Japan. Such an honour & uplifting experience.

Deep Fried (tempura) autumn leaves was delicious! Minoo (Minoh Park) was by far the best place thus far in our stay in Japan. We enjoyed much of the surrounding area, as well as really good food, such as curry and oden. There were a lots of natural hot springs for your feet (ashiyu)!

Minoh Park (箕面公園, Minō Kōen, likewise spelled Minoo or Minoh) is a forested valley on the borders of Osaka, simply north of the urban spread. Just like Tokyo's Mount Takao, Minoh Park is the closest area to the hectic metropolitan area of Osaka to discover a large natural recreation location. Another resemblance, Takao and Minoh were both provided quasi-national park status in 1967 to honour the hundredth anniversary of the Meiji Period (1867-1912). Minoh Park is among the earliest national forests in Japan. Found in Minoh city, which can be easily reached by taking a train from the main Osaka Station in downtown Umeda to Minoh station by means of Hankyu Minoh line.
