Panama Canal - Miraflores Visitor Center - 23 Dec 2017
After we go through all the Locks and complete our passage, we are bused back to the Panama City Airport for our flights home. Along the way we make a stop at the Miraflores Visitor Center. Remember, we just went through these locks at night 2 days ago. Used GC_Titan_GH4_Cinelike-D_to_Rec709 LUT on these clips.

Miraflores Locks, Panama canal
Miraflores Locks. Panama Canal (2009).
Miraflores is the name of one of the three locks that form part of the Panama Canal, and the name of the small lake that separates these locks from the Pedro Miguel Locks upstream. In the Miraflores locks, vessels are lifted (or lowered) 54 feet (16.5 m) in two stages, allowing them to transit to or from the Pacific Ocean port of Balboain Panama City. Ships cross below the Bridge of the Americas, which connects North and South America.
As of 2005, the following schedule was in effect for ship transit through the locks: From 06:00 to 15:15, ships travel from the Pacific toward the Atlantic. From 15:45 to 23:00, ships travel from the Atlantic toward the Pacific. At any other time, travel is permitted in both directions.
A visitors center allows tourists to have a full view of the Miraflores locks operation. Binoculars are recommended to view the Pedro Miguel locks in the distance. As of 2010, admittance for adults to the visitors center costs US$5 (observation terrace) or $8 (including supporting exhibits and video show), with lower rates for children and senior citizens. Panamanian residents are admitted free of charge. Viewing a transit operation at the centre can take more than 30 minutes. A souvenir shop on the ground level sells related merchandise. The centre closes at 17:00.

WELCOME to PANAMÁ - TOUR of PANAMA CANAL, CASCO VIEJO, and BIOMUSEO - VLOG 2019
Welcome to Panama City, Panama, otherwise known as The Gateway to the Americas! Panama City is famous for its marvelous engineering feat of the Panama Canal, which opened in 1914, allowing for global trade and commerce. We visit the Miraflores Visitor Center viewing platform and watch as ships from around the world cross through the Panama Canal.
We discover that this city has so much more to offer outside of the Panama Canal. We visit the Old Town of Casco Viejo, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We also visit the Biomuseo, where we tour the gardens and the architecture designed by Frank Gehry. Lastly, we visit the French Quarter which has panoramic views of the Bridge of the Americas.

Panama Canal Miraflores Locks Ships Transit - Esclusas de Miraflores Canal de Panama

The Miraflores Locks Panama Canal Visitor Center [Spanish: Centro de Visitantes de Miraflores Canal de Panamá] is a Visitor Center (at 5:00 in this video) with terraces, observation decks, restaurant and a gift shop that allows tourists to have a full view of the Miraflores locks operation.
The Panama Canal locks [Spanish: Esclusas del Canal de Panamá] are a lock system that lifts a ship up 90 feet (27 metres) to the main elevation of the Panama Canal and down again. The original canal had a total of six steps (three up, three down) for a ship's passage. There are twelve locks in total. A two-step flight at Miraflores, and a single flight at Pedro Miguel, lift ships from the Pacific up to Gatun Lake; then a triple flight at Gatun lowers them to the Atlantic side. All three sets of locks are paired; that is, there are two parallel flights of locks at each of the three lock sites.
From the outset, it was considered an important safety feature that ships be guided through the lock chambers by electric locomotives, known as mulas (mules, named after the animals traditionally used to cross the isthmus of Panama), running on the lock walls. These mules [as can for example be seen at 10:48 and 13:12 in this video] are used for side-to-side and braking control in the locks, which are narrow relative to modern-day ships.

Okay so in this vlog I will take you guys with me to the Agua Clara Visitor Center in Colón, #Panamá. This a really nice stop to make if you're visiting #Colón (Atlantic side of Panama). Especially if you're doing a day to Colón. Make sure you add this to your itinerary!
This is probably the best place to come see how the #PanamaCanal works and to see how the new Agua Clara Locks work too. The observation deck is really nice, plenty of space and the best of all it's not crowded. This center offers some stunning panoramic view of the Lake #Gatun and the locks. You'll have the opportunity to watch some of the world's biggest ships transit the canal.
Make sure you check my blog, I'll have some photos posted on there soon:
Enjoy and thanks for watching!
